It was one of those nights we went out to dinner with friends. This time it was for a meal of Chinese meal in an establishment that has been here for some time - Bamboo. It was known for fine Asian cuisine and Sushi. It was a special mix of two styles, flavors and tastes. The variety is special as it covers the various courses you would want to try this time. So we went in and were taken to our table. Then we waited. And waited. After several minutes the waiter came over with the menu and wanted to see if we wanted anything to drink before we ordered. We decided what to drink and he went away. Then we reviewed the menu and considered the courses we wanted. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, after 15 minutes he came back with our beverage and asked what we wanted. We told him the selection of appetizers and our main entrees. He took the order and left. Then we waited. And waited. More time went by and we had to ask for our appetizers. The waiter was taking care of other tables and seemed to forget us. So we made a comment to him and he did get our appetizers. Only part of it. We had to wait 15 more minutes for one of the courses we requested. Of course, before we even started our appetizers we had to request our utensils. He forgot those too. He dropped one on the floor and had to get another. We then asked when we might see our entree. He said it was ready. Then we had to wait 20 minutes. The Bamboo manager came over and we told him this was very slow. He apologized and said he would help. Finally they brought the entress out. We did have to wait for new plates and more utensils. We must say the food was very good. The dumplings were good and warm. Had a good taste. The udon noodles with shrimp were fresh and warm. Light on spice but very good. The Chicken and eggplant was filling and moist. The same with the rib eye and the tempura was coated and enjoyable, We never did get the Moo-Shi we ordered. No reason on that one as he never answered when we asked. Finally we were done with the meal. The table across from us came in after us, ordered, ate and received their bill within one hour. We had already eaten two hours when the manager had an ice cream dessert brought to us. No utensils. We waited for those and then had to wait 20 minutes for the bill. That was finally brought to us finally. Overall it took two and a half hours to eat our dinner that consisted of 3 appetizers and 3 entrees, We had one sake and one beer. That was it. The prices were reasonable. The food was good, The service was the worst. We left no tip on this. To think, I had lived in Beijing and in Tokyo for many years. I knew what food I liked and what it would taste like. This was eating an American version of Chinese meals. And the staff, that took time all the time. read more

Used to love the food here, now... not so much. We almost always get the General Gau's chicken and hot and sour soup, and both have gone down hill. The soup, which we requested to have spice level of medium, was barely spicy, and now has a sweetness that it didn't before - ugh. When ordering the General Gau's checken, we have started requesting chicken breast meat (+ $1), because the default cuts were sometimes so chewy as to be almost inedible. Even though the meat itself was better, there was almost no sauce, and the flavor was non existant - specified spice level of medium for this also, but it was just bland. The coke here is alllways flat. Our sushi was good, tasted fresh, and displayed nicely. Our garlic eggplant was flavorless- clearly boiled eggplant and veggies tossed in a bottled sauce - and late from the kitchen - not served with any rice for $17. None of the rich flavor expected. We got seated right away and ordered an appetizer and our meals as soon as the server came by. We waited 30 minutes before catching the eye of server, she said it would be here soon. After waiting another 15 minutes we saw other guests who arrived after us get their food. We decided to leave and let the host know, there was no apology or service recovery. We went today for the Father's Day buffet because it's where my father wanted to go so we drove an hour and 40 minutes to get there. When we walked in, I was shocked by the sign that said $22.95 Father's Day Buffet" when we walked in because I called 3 days earlier about Father's Day specifically and was told that lunch was $15.95. For the $6.00 difference, you were supposed to get filet and lobster. The "lobster" were scraps of exoskeleton tail and body that (we assume) were leftover from them getting the meat off for other dishes. Most pieces had no meat in them, but a few had a tiny, fingernail sized piece left that you had to work at to get. The filet didn't taste like filet and wasn't replenished often. It was tough and cut up into little pieces. Not worth the time investment and very greasy fingers you'd have otherwise. The food in general was just ho-hum to my husband and I (who love Asian food). The salt and pepper shrimp were good but I couldn't find anything else that I wanted seconds on. My favorite thing was honestly the watermelon. Our waitress didn't check on us. I had to flag her down to get a water refill and she never responded to additional attempts. Another waitress responded to me and kept coming back to check on us with the water after that but we didn't see ours again until the bill. The buffet setup was very hard to maneuver. No one knew which way they should go so every few feet were a bottleneck and my husband (a wheelchair user) couldn't get by so I had to finish getting his food for him which I don't mind, but it's uncomfortable for him. He pointed to an almost-empty dining room (one other couple, all other tables empty) and said "pick a table". We did. Waited 10 minutes. Someone dressed in white with a red cap looked in our direction, I waved - was ignored. Waited another 5 minutes and then decided to leave. I came here at 8:30pm because it was the only Asian restaurant within walking distance from my hotel. I was surprise at how everything actually tasted good. The fried noodle( jeen mein) is really tasty. The noodle itself is crunchy enough and the meat was thick slices. The Kung pao chicken was really tasty too. Usually I try to stay away from the Americanize "chinese" dishes. This dish had enough flavor and was fragrant. Their salt and pepper tenderloin was a little disappointing. I had better where I am from. I forgot the name of the tofu dish , but it was also really delicious. The tofu had the right amount of sauce drizzled and the tofu being silky smooth. A gem of a place that a local Groton resident took us to on a busy Sunday night when the buffet was in full force. When I first learned the buffet was $21 and then proceeded to get my food in the initial go around, I was steamed. Twenty plus dollars for Americanized food I can get in Anywhere, USA, seriously!? What I failed to realize as this was my first visit here, the top notch food offerings on Sundays go QUICKLY. The following were completely missing, along with their signage. Beijing Duck Lobster with scallions Scallops Sushi Fish pops Really bummed, I headed back to my seat with a few shumai, crab rangoon, and general gau's chicken. I did score some filet mignon in a brown sauce but I wondered if that was it in terms of the wow factor that night. I finished my paltry offerings and headed back a second time, there you are! In all of it's beauty, the lobster claws waved back at me as to quietly say to me, "here I am, I'm sorry we didn't connect the first time around but I'm all yours now". So I loaded up my plate with the succulent sea spiders and nothing else.... Third time around, my friend warns me that the sushi rolls will go fast and I need to go now. Yah, yah, I think to myself.....how fast, maybe it'll last 20 minutes? Uuuhh nope, as soon as that new boat came out, there was a line and it was gone in about 5 minutes. But this was a part of buffet that seriously lacked, I thought they were very sub par rolls and didn't even go back again after being able to take two when they were available. Mediocre salmon sat on top and the other was a tempura roll that tasted like canned tuna in the middle, yick. 90% of the offerings were top notch, though. Some of my favorites of the night were the lobster which goes without saying. Also, the scallops which were HUGE and practically pay for themselves in terms of value. The bejing duck was "interesting". The meat itself was decadent but I've never had them wrapped in a flour tortilla before so I just took the meat out and left the carb filler to be thrown away. I hated feeling wasteful but the tortilla was flavorless and didn't let the duck shine like it should. The shrimp shumai were a surprise as well, reminding me of some Chinatown Boston offerings. I finished up the gluttonous affair with some green tea ice cream. All in all it was a great experience, albeit insanely packed. Service was never an issue, always prompt and courteous. If this is one of the few Asian jaunts in this area that is fairly decent, I can see why there was a wait to get a table. Anyways, the Lychee martini must be their signature drink because it seemed very popular. I ordered one and it was sweet and smooth. Bamboo was the first restaurant I did takeout from after they opened for takeout during COVID. The food was fresh and delicious as it had been for years. Since then, the quality has seriously taken a hit. While I sympathize with all restaurants I am extremely dissatisfied with the quality of food and service from this restaurant. Bamboo will always hold a special place in my heart, because it's where my husband and I first met. :) My brother and his wife are big fans of the Sunday night buffet, which we have enjoyed on a couple of occasions as well. As another person mentioned, it's good to get there early before the sushi, lobster, etc. are gone. The buffet is much more expensive than your usual buffet, but they do offer a few delicacies that warrant the price increase if they're still available. All of the food I've tried here has been delicious; my one complaint is their scorpion bowl isn't the way I like them. Scorpion bowls should end up being yellow/orangish, and theirs is pinkish red. The bar tends to be crowded, and we've left on more than one occasion when we couldn't belly up to the bar. read more

I don't know what I was expecting when we ordered the Bamboo Green for two, but my face lit up like Christmas when it arrived at our table. Bamboo Green = sushi-boat-bliss! BLISSSSS!! It had everything from a starter California roll to octopus sashimi. We went on a saturday, it was closeby and had good reviews so we thought of giving it a chance, there was literally 10 items and all of them almost over. However the serving spoons were extremely hot and i burnt my hand while taking some orange chicken, to my astonishment the staff response who was watching me getting burnt and i had to ask her to replace the spoon, and she handed me a wet cloth she was using it to wipe table to hold the spoon!!!!!!!! My first time ever feeling the need to write a review. After coming up to MA from FL, I didn't expect much. When we arrived at the restaurant we were seated fast but the waiter never took our drink orders, we thought "it's okay he's busy". Wrong, he was cleaning tables and serving others in our row. Great teriyaki and sushi if you're into Japanese, and a full Chinese menu for people who aren't into sushi. The rolls are generous, and better priced relative to the nigiri I think. There's a decent sake selection, but no beers on tap. All beers are bottled (except for Sapporo, which is in a can). This review is only for the buffet. If you're veg*n and aren't too picky, you can be satiated. It's slim pickings for vegans though. However, if you like fruit, rice and iceberg lettuce salad, you're good to go. They also had two veggie dishes - shanghai choy/ "baby" bok choy and a mixed veggie dish. I think the lack of interest in those dishes led to their failure to be refreshed very well, if at all. The greens (choy) were okay, and I ate 2 servings of them because there wasn't much else. It was the best thing there. The mixed veggies were lame and tasteless (zucchini, straw mushrooms, carrots, a few pieces of broccoli and snow peas). If you're vegetarian, there's some tempura and spring rolls - I'm not sure if they're vegan, but certainly vegetarian. There was also a noodle dish, definitely not vegan, but vegetarian. There was lots of focus on restocking the sushi and meat... so be ready for that if you're veg*n. Overall, you will get full eating here, but your palate might not be doing somersaults and back flips of delight. I guess I would go back here because well, I like choy, rice and fruit. read more

Bamboo in Westford, MA offers a diverse menu which includes Japanese and Chinese food. They also have a great lunch buffet! Tonight we opted for the sushi bar and it did not disappoint! The sushi chef offered a free appetizer of torched salmon stuffed with crab meat. It was so good! The salmon, dressed with a liquid swirls of wasabi melted in my mouth! We also ordered sushi pieces of hamachi, mackerel and salmon. The waiter, who I think was new, thought we ordered sashimi pieces and when the sushi chef presented our food and we told him it was the wrong order, he gracefully apologized and redesigned our plate with the sushi pieces in addition to complimentary salmon sashimi. We also ordered caterpillar maki and shrimp tempura maki, both of which were super fresh and delicious. Overall a fabulous experience. I will repeat! read more

My friend and I went here for a pre-birthday dinner on a weekday. Don't be fooled by the exterior, it's actually quite nice inside. The food is good, but a little pricey (compared to other restaurants offering the same fare). Food: -Red Sox Roll, I must say that this was the best signature sushi order I've had in a long time. I normally don't like raw slices of salmon covering more than half my sushi, but it was pleasantly surprising how it turned out. It didn't have that "fishy" aftertaste, and it was creative how they used mango in the rolls. -Philadelphia Roll, I wasn't as impressed with this dish as I thought I would be. It had more cream cheese than I'm used to. It might work for others though. -Crispy Sesame Beef, I really liked this signature dish. It was the right texture for a crispy beef dish (not too crispy, and not soggy from sauce). The beef was juicy and sweet, and there was a good portion. -Tropical Chicken, I would have to say I'm a little disappointed in the chicken. The chicken was a little flavorless. It was drenched in this light sweet pineapple/pepper mix. I felt like they couldn't decide between making it spice based or sweet/vegetable based. -House Tea, It reminds me of black grass jelly drink. Smooth and sweet smelling. Atmosphere: -It's actually pretty classy inside (and clean too). We were seated in the middle of the restaurant in front of the sushi bar, so it was lively but not distracting. Very culturally decorated with appropriate ambient music. Staff: -We were greeted by a hostess who sat us down near the sushi bar and kitchen. For the most part, everyone was sociable and there were no grumpy faces to be had. Our server was a little overattentive for my taste - but I guess that's part of finer dining. Final Thoughts: -We'll have to come back for the buffet. I really enjoyed the eating experience, and would love to come by again with some friends. I was pretty impressed with this place. I was skeptical at first because based on the atmosphere it seemed to be trying pretty hard to be westernized. We had ordered the scallion pancake and the sushi love boat for the four of us. The pancake was a bit doughy and crispy at the same time. It thought it was great - a tad on the greasy side but it is a scallion pancake after all. The sushi love boat is huge and it definitely enough for four people. I also ordered a Crab Ragoon and Egg Rolls. I When ordering I asked what kind of Egg Rolls they had and they said that they only had one kind which was pork & chicken. We neither pork nor chicken was anywhere in the Egg Roll. The Egg Roll was sopping with grease and had only cabbage inside. On the bottom of the Egg Roll Container was a soggy wet wilted piece of lettuce. Not sure what that was about? There is obviously a huge difference between dine in and take out. Epic failure on takeout! We will never order take out again. But once they reopen we will dine in. As far as the takeout service: I ordered from the car while we were in route. We pulled in the parking lot and there was a gentleman who was checking people in with identifying the last 4 digits of phone numbers and names. He was keeping the orders very organized, he wore a mask & gloves. There was a table up by the front door where he would place the takeout bag & call out the person's name/number. He would step away so as to respect the social distancing and allow the customer to grab their order and go. It was very odd because a completely different guy came out with my order and called my name. He had no gloves and no mask while he handled my food. I wasn't impressed with that and can't come to figure why the other guy was so very cautious and this guy was completely irresponsible with safety measures. read more

Bamboo in Westford is the best Asian Cuisine in the area. When my family comes to town from Maryland and Pennsylvania the first place they want to eat at is Bamboo. They continue to try and convince management to open a satellite restaurant in MD. Even under current conditions with only take out available the food remains fresh and consistently good. My family still insists on our weekly Bamboo fix. Bar staff is also the best and they all make you feel welcome by knowing your favorite drink preference before you order it. I look forward to going to the Bamboo in Bedford all day. UnFortunately we ran out of time and ended up at the Bamboo in Westford. I was so unimpressed from the word go. My Mai Tai was weak. The spare ribs were overcooked and dry. We ordered Chinese eggplant and garlic sauce it was OK but it was so over done and mushy, the pieces were so large it was tough to eat with chopsticks. I wanted to get Peking duck because it was my birthday. We ordered a whole dock for $50. It took forever and was dry over cooked and cold. The skin was fatty I have to say it was the worst Peking duck I have ever had. I will not be back I specifically came out of the area I lived in to try and get a better Asian meal. i recently came here with co-workers for some drinks after a business outing at Kimball Farm. this restaurant is a little fancier than i was expecting, to be honest. cloth tablecloths, napkins, and the atmosphere is pretty upscale. i felt a little out of place in my running shorts, t shirt, and sneakers. you may want to up your clothing game a bit if you come here. my colleagues were enjoying the tropical drinks, but indicated they were pretty strong, so i decided to go with a mixed drink, and then a glass of wine (i had about an hour drive to get home). drinks are expensive, all of them over $10 (most around $11.50/$13.50). at $8.50, my glass of rose was pretty reasonable (especially because it was a large pour), but everything else was pretty expensive. the food is similarly expensive. a bunch of us ordered some sushi, as well as some other appetizers. i got the alaskan roll (salmon with avocado and cucumber), as well as a spicy scallop roll to which i added avocado. the sushi was phenomenal. truly, it's some of the best i've had in MA. a friend had wings that looked gorgeous, and he said tasted fantastic. the Godzilla roll was enormous, and two colleagues stated it was similarly delicious. with our food being so great, i figured that everything they make is probably one or two notches above the average takeout food, so i decided to get my husband some chicken fried rice to go. unfortunately, this was well below average. like- after he was done eating some, we actually tossed the rest (and i HATE wasting food). but it just wasn't good. if price is not a consideration for you, definitely go and have at it. i woudl suggest sticking to the sushi, as opposed to some of the more traditional Chinese options. read more
