Sushi-forward pan-Asian eatery right in the center of town on Main Street. Decent atmosphere (more…read morebistro yearnings than a "joint"), friendly service, and just-okay food if not getting sushi. First visit in a few years: -- Salt and Pepper Wings: Small, fried, seasoned, and unsauced, with jalapeños and such for assistance. Decent tenderness and moistness, but light on flavor without the jalapeño and a little bland despite the name. -- General Tso Wings: One fewer wing, but much larger ones, with a sweet, thick sauce, good crunch, and decent moisture underneath. No heat to counter the sweet, but that's the case for most General Gao or Tso these days. Still very solid. -- Teriyaki Salmon: Lunch special with choice of salad or soup, choice of Rangoons or gyoza, and choice of white or fried rice. The salmon itself was sensible of size, but dry inside and topped with a gloppy sweet sauce that helped the dryness but not the cause. The gyoza were small and most likely frozen. Overall, seems like going to an Olive Garden that happens to be serving Asian cuisine. I've been a few times before, with similar thoughts (and half the coworkers I've gone with agree, and half love it). Pleasant enough, and easy street parking, but I don't see myself rushing back. Maybe sushi is the way to go.

Very good quantity, good price. (Hey, nothing wrong wanting (non-traditional) Chinese food once in a while!)

Mixed bag with highs and lows. -- Hot and Sour Soup (on a lunch combo): Pleasing rendition, with many mushroom types, a just-thick-enough broth, and some mini bits of red pepper in addition to liquid heat. Above average. -- Magnolia Special Chicken Wings: Big plate of wings in a dark sauce combining sweet, heat, and a bit of sour, but not to be mistaken for sweet and sour. Outside, not much crispness. Inside, not much tenderness, and barely moist (forget juicy), but nice marinade flavor deep down. Above average to well above average, but previously elite. -- Pork Egg Foo Yong (on a lunch combo): Two naked patties/omelettes with thick brown gravy on the side. Exterior not crisp, but firm. Interior perfectly tender with a profusion of large chunked onions and tasty pork, and fairly fresh pork at that. Good flavor to the gravy-- served as a big bowl with no monkey dish or spoon. Near-elite. -- Pork Fried Rice (on a lunch combo): Fresh and nice texture but subtle of flavor and not old school style. Decent amount of pork. Rice-a-Roni flavor. Average to slightly above. (Yes, maybe slightly above. Rice-a-Roni has its place.) -- Chicken Fingers (on a lunch combo): Standard issue with the usual low meat-to-batter ratio. Nothing noteworthy on the positive or negative side. Average. Servicewise, I felt ignored the entire meal. Had to grab my own napkins off another table. Hoped for a chance at a water refill that came too late. Long wait for the check. Nothing rude, but not present, alert, or efficient.

Wok and Roll gets a bad rap. Not sure why so many negative reviews. The service is always top notch…read moreand food is always piping hot. And pretty tasty. Prices are reasonable too. -pork fried rice(7.4) pretty good, light in color, not mushy, good texture ,good amount of green onion , onion , bean sprouts, and roasted pork bits. - egg roll (7.8)nice wrapper with some crisp. Very moist, a little greasy in a good way. Interior mostly cabbage and vegetables. Good flavor though. -Fried shrimp (7.9.)Good size pieces of shrimp in the old school wet batter. Great shrimp flavor. -Crab Rangoon (8.4)recently changed recipe. crispy wrapper with perfect amount of crabmeat filling, not too sweet but not too cream cheesy either , great crab flavor, good balance. -Shrimp with lobster sauce(7.5)Good Unami flavor if not a little bit salty, very good consistency, not too goopy and not too watery. Could have used a little more ground pork and no need for green peas. Nice fresh snappy shrimp.

Dumpy little place off Main Street looks like a converted hair salon or delicatessen. Mostly over…read morethe counter takeout with a couple tables. Low budget decor and not very clean. Sweet & Sour Chicken: About a dozen and a half nuggets, a little smaller than the McDonald's model, all very round and very puffy, like a beer batter, served unsauced. Simple red sweet and sour sauce on the side, gloppy, with no pineapples or cherries. Cutting into a nugget (with a fork, since they don't have plastic knives) reveals a VERY low chicken-to-batter ratio. Chicken itself tender, and batter had decent crunch outside, way too puffy and borderline uncooked inside. Pork Fried Rice: Kind of on the dry side and definitely on the light side, but if you can get past these two, not a bad pork fried rice. It certainly had flavor, and there was enough pork to make it not seem skimpy. Egg Roll: Decent, as long as you're not looking for protein. Tiny specs among the moist and crispy greenery. Good crunch. Duck Sauce: They have the pink packets on the counter, which is scary, but with the meal comes a plastic container of the real stuff. Most Chinese restaurant duck sauce starts with apple sauce, but this was more obvious and not much different from straight apple sauce. All things considered, hardly impressive, but doable if you're really in a pinch. Certainly better (and a better value and no less safe) than the fast food options around town. Which isn't saying much.
