The restaurant is bizarrely stingy with rice: it sends only a tiny carton with an order of green curry, for example. Not enough for even half the curry. So be sure to ask for more when you order. The food is otherwise quite good. read more

This place has really awesome food. I had the drunken noodles the other night. Sooooo amazing! The coconut milk soup was also divine. Only reason I am not giving it five stars is because it is a little cramped, and it is a bit annoying to have 5 different servers taking your order, constantly filling your giant water glass and serving your food. What a great little gem!! After a day at the beach, my gf mentioned there was a thai restaurant she really liked in the area so of course i had to check the place on out on my yelp app and confirmed that the place had really great reviews... whats funny is that my gf found this place a few summers ago randomly and what a great find it was! This is a BYOB restaurant which is always a plus... I had the drunken noodles... SO DELICIOUS... you need to stop in if you like Thai and are in the area... FYI its a pretty small restaurant and it doesn't seem that this place is a hidden gem for locals because it was packed during dinner so there may be a wait for a table... well worth the wait nonetheless :) read more

I have been wanting to try this place for quite some time , so was happy when we all agreed to go out for thai . I made a reservation because I knew how crowded it gets after one sat not being able to get through the door to even ask about a table. We were a table of seven and our waiter was so kind and gentle with all of our families questions about thai and spice level ect. We got soups and salads and I must say the Tom yum is good ! Jam packed with veggies which always makes me happy. My mom had a delish salad and my family loved the spring rolls , fried squid and the salad. My moms salad was very tasty. When we got our entrees they came out three at a time which is always a good sign , means made to order , nice and hot , nothing is sitting around back there. My basil chili was very yummy except a little too oily . but the rice stole the show and I don't even really like rice , so moist! My brother loved his chicken dish and my mom and sister their pad Thais. Although My boy friend didn't like his pad thai , was not saucy enough for him and tasted burnt. Everyone's experience is just that....their experience! It cannot be invalidated because someone doesn't like or agree with what they are reading or hearing. Just remember that as you read this. Unfortunate, but Let's start with the........ Positives: *Food is pretty good/tasty *Food is reasonably priced for its quality *Older lady/owner is a class act- works to know customers and is very friendly; staff is friendly *Sister/cook seems to know customers as well and works very hard *Authentic ambience/ clean environment Negatives/ Areas for Improvement: *Food is burnt quite often *Portion size fluctuates, but has mostly gotten smaller and smaller -despite price remaining the same *Voice mail issue; operating date and times have been greatly inconsistent in the past *Excessive wait time for pick-up orders; in the last month or two I have to give myself 10-15 additional minutes before I arrive at the scheduled pick-up time because food is/has not always been ready *Man who is working in front/at counter, presumably son of owner or now the owner, is unbelievably rude, dismissive, and questionable in his treatment of some people. I'm not going to say he's racist towards blacks, or perhaps there is a double-standard rooted in race, but let's just say that I've been patronizing the place for over SIX (6) years and on too many occasions he has treated me, a family member or a friend quite differently than that of my white brothers and sisters- Seriously! Every time I come I come with a smile because it's food that I love, they do a good job (despite aforementioned shortcomings) and I adore the owner/ mother. I thought perhaps he doesn't like something about me, despite me NEVER having expressed or verbalized concerns about the excessive wait or burnt food. I am cordial, polite and provide a tip every time I patronize the place- despite my aforementioned concerns. Moreover, I mirror the behavior of my white brothers and sisters who are standing alongside me so I can get the same treatment that they get. Nonetheless, I wanted to see if this was just me......and had multiple (black) family members or friends of mine order and/or retrieve food (via pick-up) at different times over the course of a year. Please know that no one is ever given any prior information about my concerns, however every time without fail, I, a family member or friend are greeted with a scowl and look of hate, anger or disgust. Again, no one is given any prior information of my concerns, so as to avoid them engaging in confirmation bias or to inadvertently taint their lens, etc. Of the many responses I get back from that control group is often, a response that includes: "I hope this food is good....but that man (at the counter), he cute and has a sexy deep voice but he is kinda rude and nasty to me...but was nice to the white people that were there!" "What's his problem?.....I smiled, said my name, waited to pay and retrieve my oder but he........" Regardless of this, I have driven 50min to have/consume their food and recently started traveling over an hour and fifteen minuted to have/ consume their food. I still smile and wait patiently for my order, however I think that a more recent incident is making me question "Why bother?", as the negatives continue to mount. Wish for their sake things get better as I'm certain that patrons can relate to one, some or all of the aforementioned negatives. Everyone can change and get better! read more

My and I took our good friends to Bamboo Leaf last Saturday with a 6:30 reservation. We were seated promptly and ordered an appetizer for starters. Something was mixed up with the waitresses and she stopped, started to take our order, left and then came back and completed it. That was the last we saw of any service help. We waited an hour for our dinners and came to notice that no one came to check on our status. It was obvious that people who came after us were being served. My husband went to the front desk and informed the gentleman that we had not been served. Again no one came to check on us. Finally we left $10 on the table for the appetizer that we did receive and walked out. No one even noticed that we had left. Goodbye Bamboo Leaf. This is one of our favorite go-to date night spots! We keep it in our rotation and my fiancé who is usually a little picky with food always asks to come back here. Delicious food every single time. I tend to stick to what I like, and I always order veggie so I get the thai basil anything (either the noodles, or the basil fried rice is absolutely amazing). Or the veggie panang curry (so beyond delicious!) or red curry. I always have a hard time choosing what to order between my favorites! They don't generally serve things very spicy but you can ask if you want it to be. It is a very cozy and friendly atmosphere, and we like coming here in the fall/winter mostly. We also love that it's BYO and there's a liquor store right down the street! The waiting area can get very crowded, and sometimes it takes a couple of minutes for your servers to come over to you when they're busy. But I can always tell that the servers are working their butts off and I'm never concerned that they'll forget about us or anything. Since it's such a small restaurant it can get very loud, depending on the crowd that night. Sometimes they squeeze in large parties and it can get pretty boisterous! My dad in particular can't handle small, loud spaces so this place isn't for him. As far as wait time, we usually have to wait to be seated on a Friday or Saturday night, but it is never more than 20 mins or a half hour or so. Overall, one of our favorite little spots! read more

My coworkers rave about this place. I caved in and decided to try it out. This was my first time having Thai food or even going to a Thai restaurant. The chicken pad Thai was amazing!!! Seriously amazing. For lunch it was a great price and came with a delicious egg roll or spring roll. I got the chicken egg roll and it was very very good. Everything here is so fresh. The staff is very nice and the environment is very cozy. Very cute little restaurant in the heart of the jersey shore. Of course after my first Thai plate, I had to try the dessert. Both had unbelievably tough beef we managed to eat the salad but when it came to the beef curry, it was too tough and fatty. I ate 2 pieces of the beef and told them it wasn't good. The waitress proceeded to go through the the dish to check how much I ate and gave me attitude . She took it and left then came back and said"both me and the cook ate it and it's fine you must be used to filet" All together with apps and food we spent 80.00 without the curry. Cozy atmosphere. Dim lighting. Inviting staff. Clean restrooms. BYOB. Street parking. No wait to be seated at 7p on a Friday (after Labor Day). Was getting pretty crowded as I left toward 8:30p. Enjoyed coconut milk soup (tom kha) with tofu and lots of veggies, beef Panang curry as my entree, again, many, many veggies, and ended with coconut ice cream. This place seems to be a vegetarian's delight because they definitely do not skimp on their vegetables. The size is nice and chunky big, and there's more food than broth and sauce in your dish. It can get loud as the crowd grows. The background music seems to be playing on the same, soothing track. The menu prices are decent, especially for being so close to the shore. That may be why there was so much more vegetables than beef in my main dish. The staff tops off your water, as needed, though you have to pour your own wine. They have a few sizzling dishes with no fans or ventilation, so be prepared to smell like their food if you or a nearby table orders one. Noticed a couple gnats. Could be why I was allowed in with a sheer sundress and my bikini. All in all the prices are nice for the location, and the food was all good. $35 with tip. read more

Just "bamboo shoot me!" An 8PM reservation is what we had yet we didn't sit until 8:35. It was 8:50 when I decided I had to wave someone down to ask if we wanted anything. Service was curt after that. The space of a floor tile is all that separates tables from one another. Diners have to do a "sideways limbo" to get to the bathroom. If you're claustrophobic, as I am, try takeout. On the bright side: the crab dumplings paired with the peanut sauce were pillowy goodness and the shrimp rolls were fantastic. The shrimp tomkah my wife had was spectacular. Pad Thai was good, with crushed peanut coating the plate to add a crunchy kick. Food was very good but the poor service and hosting drowned that out. read more

No complaints about the food. But if you have an infant or toddler that needs a booster or high chair, I hope you bring one with you, because the restaurant does not have them. Nor do they seem to care. I'd like to amend the "Kid Friendly" characterization on Yelp to specify "only if your kid is old enough to sit in a chair made for adults." I enjoy fine dining and have no issue spending money on food, I'll pay upwards of $40 for an entree. $22.00 for tofu and veggies in this casual a setting seems overpriced. $10.00 for sticky rice, I can't wrap my head around that. We had take out for lunch. Drunken noodles with pork, pad Thai with chicken and beef satay. Up until today, one of our top Thai restaurants was located in north jersey where great food is everywhere. I think Bamboo Leaf is my new favorite. Everything was extremely flavorful and juicy. Truly excellent food. I don't know about the dining experience but if you're looking for delicious Thai- this is a good place. The prices are a little higher however you get large portions. A+! read more
