After a client meeting, I drove over an hour just to see if it lived up. The waitress who sat me was friendly and confirmed what I was hoping to hear: the chef is from Kuala Lumpur. Jackpot! I ordered a half chicken rice with a bowl of rice for $3.99, plus roti and chicken curry. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. Here's how it stacked up: The soup wasn't quite like what I've had in Singapore or Malaysia. The red chili sauce could have been better, too. The chicken itself wasn't fully authentic to my taste, but I was still happy with it. I've had better chicken rice in California, but I'm grateful we even have this option here in Arizona. Would I drive over an hour again just for it? Probably not. But if I were already in the neighborhood, I'd definitely stop by and order it again. Saw a post on FB about Bamboo Cafe a few days ago, so we decided to give it a try. It's exciting to find Malaysian food in the area! We ordered a lot! We got the Hainanese Chicken Rice, Malaysian Curry Chicken, Oyster Cake, Roti Canai, Samba Shrimp, Belacan Clams, and Ground Pork Japanese Tofu. Everything was good and we really enjoyed our dinner. My favorite was definitely the Hainanese Chicken Rice! The chicken was tender and the rice had really good flavor from the chicken broth. Finally, some legit Hainanese Chicken Rice in the area! We also really liked the Malaysian Curry Chicken and Roti Canai. Actually, it's hard to pick because we pretty much liked everything we ordered. So happy to have a good Malaysian restaurant close by! We heard they'll be adding more authentic Malaysian dishes to the menu soon, so of course we'll be back to try more! read more

Chef Vincent from Las Vegas brings authentic Malaysian spices and flavors to the west valley! Thank goodness I don't have to drive to LV, or fly to SF or LA to get Malaysian food anymore! Must get the roti canai, tender chicken full or aromatics and creamy coconut flavor to dip their 2 flaky roti!! Any Malaysian or Singaporean will know if you see samba, it's a must order! If you know someone who doesn't like vegetables, order their eggplant and green beans!! Asian style vegetables are the only way to go and the most flavorful way is to have it Malaysian style! Tasty Chinese food, with both authentic and Westernized dishes and several vegan/vegetarian options. We were seated by the owner and I confirmed with him that they do not use fish sauce, oyster sauce, or animal based broths in their vegetarian dishes, so they should all be completely vegan. I had the sizzling tofu which was extremely delicious, and a favorite even for my omnivore parents. The inside is very welcoming and clean, and the bathroom is surprisingly spacious and also very clean. The kindest and most over-the-top service I have ever received! I believe it was the owner who contacted me after my late-night Grubhub order was not assigned a delivery driver, and he so kindly offered to deliver the order directly when no one else would! I was already impressed with the food quality I've gotten here in the last few months, but now, I will be a loyal customer for life. When my husband went to pick up our order tonight there a couple of employees asleep on benches, not a good sign. We have ordered food from them before and it was good but tonights order of cashew chicken was awful. There were probably 7-8 small pieces of chicken maybe 3-4 cashews some carrots water chestnuts and bamboo shoots and it was piled high with onions probably more onions then I would put in a large pot of marinara sauce. There was no flavor whatsoever in the sauce. The worst cashew chicken I have ever had. My husband's beef chow main was very good. Excellent and consistently EXCELLENT! They are great specials all day for dinner and for lunch. Service has always been on top of things and fast. It's still a very brand new looking restaurant that's been open, for I guess, a couple of years now. I quite often order the Sezechuan chicken, last time it was the Shrimp. But everything else looks and has tasted extremely good too. We ordered cashew chicken, Mongolian beef, and potstickers. There was absolutely no sauce or flavor on the chicken. The Mongolian beef was nearly all onions. I would've given this place 5 stars because we LOVE coming here. But after our visit tonight we witnessed Fong (I believe is his name, main server guy) yelling across the restaurant at a young employee who was doing everything in there: taking to go orders, packaging the food, ringing people up, etc. The phone rang and Fong stared at it and when the young kid came back from packaging an order was yelled at loudly in front of all of us eating there about not answering the phone before it rang 3 times. The young kid was doing way more work than anyone and it made me lose my interest in coming here. Picked up some take-out the other day and was happy with the results. We ordered the walnut shrimp, beef chow fun, and sizzling tofu. All were good options. I will say, their white rice is not great, a bit on the dry side for my liking but it's no Michelin star restaurant so I digress. Service was fast and easy. This is our go-to spot for Chinese in the area so we have ordered take-out many times. I will say, stay away from their battered meat options like orange or sesame chicken. Honestly I was looking for an underrated resistant and I found it. So I got the Lunch special, it comes with an egg drop soup, 2 crab puffs, white rice and your choice of entrees. I got the shrimp chow mein and most of the time when I order something with shrimp in a Chinese restaurant, they always give me a few but this place would give you enough so you can enjoy the whole meal without finishing the protein first. I'm always polite and say thank you and etc.. he always gives me a dirty look and doesn't say anything back. Don't waste your time or money here. It's hot (temperature) the moment you walk in to the point of being uncomfortable especially if you like kung pow (hot) dishes. Service is mediocre and most importantly the taste and quality of the food is not good. To cap it off the lone male employee working out front got upset at another employee, began shouting in a language I do not speak therefore understand which was offensive to all the customers, throwing a napkin and capped the drama off by kicking the glass door leading to the patio. When I say kick, I do not mean with his toe or ball of his foot, but the heel kinda like the police do in movies. The door was not locked or even latched, so it just flew open. If it was he'd have damaged the frame. I am sure he knew that and it was all drama, but completely uncalled for with respect to all their patrons. The glass did not break or crack that I could tell, but I really just kinda finished my meal without looking before paying my bill and leaving. The place was kind of small the left side of the restaurant was ladder and boxes. Seems like they're using it for storage. We ordered orange chicken, chicken fried rice and sweet-and-sour chicken and crab Rangoon Crab Rangoon just tasted like cream cheese Chicken fried rice was not good at all. The chicken was very slimy. I have to spit it out. orange chicken the sauce was ok but the chicken had rough texture . Sweet and sour chicken the breading was ok. Service, don't know what to say, the guy came twice, once to gives us the menu and second time to take the order. The one thing that is good about this place is their lunch specials which cost $7 from 11:00am-3:00pm. When my cronies and I came in, we were greeted to a depressing atmosphere. We dealt with a server who clearly didn't want to service us even though we were the only patrons there. He didn't even give us the full menu. And even when I got the full menu, it didn't even have all the items listed on it (the boba drink selection were on a poster). Even the tables we were on had literal screws loose. There was no music playing in the background at all. It was a sad state of affairs. Bamboo Cafe is located in a strip mall anchored by a Fry's Grocery that on the Upper West Side in Glendale. This restaurant serves mostly Chinese Take Out Foods and other foods and they do local delivery. When you walk in you see a clustered hostess desk that doubles as a storage area and take out station. A voice inside the dining room told us to seat ourselves. We started with the cucumber salad ($3.00). We received a very large portion of de-seeded cucumbers with crisp carrots in a sweetened vinaigrette. The carrots were crisp but the cucumbers have seen better days and had a senior citizens card. (maybe the cucumbers were purchased from Fry's ((lol)). For my main I was going to order the green curry but my waiter said that they were out of green but the yellow or red were the same and just a different color. I ordered the yellow curry ($9.50). I received a HUMUNGOUS platter of food. There was lots of very tender chicken and LOTS of bamboo, LOTS of onions, potatoes that were falling apart and SOGGY FRENCH FRIES in a well made sauce. It was odd to me but the sauce was very good and contained fresh lemongrass and fresh Thai Basil. My husband tried the blackened shrimp and chicken ($12.50). He also received a very large platter of food. Everything here was prepared well and his plate contained fresh green beans, carrots and onions. It was good but didn't taste Asian at all. They also served us a very large bowl of fresh fluffy steamy rice. I used to come here years ago and stopped because many of the dishes I tried were ok but didn't have an Asian Taste at all or much flavor like the chicken with asparagus and I know I used to order one of the fish dishes. Mediocrity at its best. I've ordered from Bamboo cafe several times in hopes of getting decent Asian food, but sadly I am disappointed each time. I get coupons in the mailer frequently and always want to support local neighborhood restaurants, so I keep trying and keep getting let down. Seems like I have ordered every type of dish on the menu (king pao, orange, Thai, appetizers etc) and it either lacks flavor or the meats are dry and over cooked. The staff are accommodating and the inside is nice enough to sit down, but it's not exactly inviting and the food is not worth the price.
