We've lived "across the street " for over 30 years and have witnessed the vast facility upgrades and quality improvements in the medical staff care! They saved my husband's life twice so I am forever grateful and I care so much that other patients have quality experiences here. I know the attention to patient wellness has improved exponentially, especially in the last 10 years and I feel that they listen to community input to get even better.

Because we got up at 6 AM in order to get to the hospital at the scheduled time and my husband was NPO, we did not have breakfast. Around 3 PM we stopped at The Great Cookie, on the main floor Greene Street entrance, as we were leaving. We ordered six cookies and we paid for six cookies. Each cookie cost approximately three dollars. They were put in a bag, which we did not inspect before we left. When we opened the bag, there were only five cookies. Besides the missing cookie, the one chocolate-top cookie was totally smashed into the other cookies making one big chocolate mess and a mass of cookie crumbs in the bag. I hate to think this was done deliberately, but it does make me wonder. I realize The Great Cookie is not part of the hospital, but is probably a contracted kiosk. Maybe the person in charge of these contracts will want to check this provider's services.

My mother was transferred to this facility after an extensive stay in a hospital out of state. It…read morewas the middle ground between the hospital and being well enough to come home as she basically had to learn how to walk again. All things considered, our family was pleased with the facility. Not quite 100% pleased. More like 80%. Rehab/Staff: The physical and occupational therapists were fantastic. They were much better compared to the PT and OT services at the hospital. They had daily events like board games and ice cream socials which my mom enjoyed even if they were kind of lame and boring. It helped her meet people at the facility and encouraged her to leave her room beyond her PT and OT. The nurses and staff were dedicated and helpful. I remember a few nights when it was snowing the nurses came in several hours before their shift just to be on the safe side. Much appreciated! CDiff: While the rehab staff and services were great, on the flip side, my mom unfortunately became incredibly ill the day before she was initially supposed to be discharged. Turns out she caught CDiff from the patient in the room next door. Everyone in their wing of the facility were then infected. Not only did this prolong her discharge for over a week but it was so bad she was admitted to another local hospital several weeks after she was discharged because the treatment at this facility was basically useless. Food: My mom was also really impressed with their food although they didn't have the specific dietary restriction options one would expect with this sort of rehabilitation facility where quite a few people are transferred directly from hospitals. For example, my mom had to be on a very strict low sodium diet. Whenever we inquired about sodium levels in certain foods the staff was clueless. Visitors: The lounge spaces are comfortable and filled with magazines and board games for patients and their visitors. That was a nice touch. The food for visitors wasn't as impressive as the food for patients. They have a "restaurant" where you can eat and visit with your friends and family while you're there. The menu is actually pretty awesome but the system is beyond backwards. You have to go to the front desk (reception for the entire facility) and fill out an old school check (think 60's diner) with specifically what you're going to order. Then you either give it to them or drop it off at the restaurant before dinner hours. Thennnnn when you actually sit down at the restaurant the wait stuff takes your order and still seems confused given this whole process. It seems beyond duplicative. After two attempts it was too much of a hassle. From that point on we decided to bring in our own food from local restaurants and eat in the lounge with my mom. So much better! Ambiance: This place needs a major makeover. My mom is in her 60's, she's not 100. While the staff was lovely the aesthetics here are sterile and unwelcoming; particularly for those who come here from a hospital. I had to bring a plethora of things from home to help my mom feel comfortable and a bit more at home. Otherwise it felt way too institutionalized. Like a mix between a prison and an elementary school cafeteria. The recliners in each room were partially out of commission due to a fire hazard recall. Typically I wouldn't care much about this sort of thing but getting out of bed and just sitting in a reclining chair was a huge accomplishment for my mom the first week or so she was there. Not being able to move the chair kind of defeated the whole point of it being a special chair intended for rehabilitation!

During COVID, Feb 202, we were unable to visit. My 91 yr…read moreold father in law was admitted to the hospital 10 days later sent to Manor Care for rehab. He had vascular insufficiency in calves of his legs. To improve circulation and pain his calves and feet needed to be elevated 24/7. We were able to arrange home care. He had to be brought home on a stretcher in a transport vehicle. When we looked through his bas that were brought with him, his personal essential items were missing, EVIDENCE OF CARE: -Multiple abrasions on his hips from the diaper being too tight (both sides). -The back of his heals were flat from bed sores. -they lied about his progress, he had actually severely declined PERSONAL ITEMS MISSING: -One hearing aid (he had both & they were new prior to going in, one was missing and the other that was returned didn't work. Suspect it was gather with laundry and washed). No wonder he couldn't hear our phone conversations about a week after he arrived. -A sets of dentures he couldn't chew his food and had lost about 20 pounds -Eyeglasses -New electric razor (we dropped off, still in the box from Walmart) How did this happen? He wasn't able to get out of bed. We called and called and made several trips back to Manor care to pick them up. It was exhausting and stressful. They couldn't find them, come back at a certain time and date, the person that had them wasn't working etc. On our last trip there, they gave us women's glasses and a pair of dentures that were so big it was obvious they weren't his!!! He couldn't even open his mouth that wide, we had to use his old dentures. We gave up, at this stressful time we preferred to focus the time and energy on caring for him. I was horrified at the care he received, the lack of communication and responsibility for his possessions. He passed away last week and maybe that could not have been prevented.

Type of care, Care quality and Office Experience HORRIBLE!! Unless you have the time to visit your…read moreloved one frequently, I would not recommend or entrust Towson Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for long term disability. 90 to 95% percent of the long term care residents do not have family members that come to visit with them. What this does is it allows the facility to get away with things like leaving the resident anywhere from 4 plus hours without being changed or checked on. I am specifically speaking about the long hallway long term care on the second floor. The resident's clothes and blankets come up missing once they are sent down to laundry never to be seen again. It also doesn't matter that the resident's name has been written or sewn onto the garments. The residents do not have gowns, wash cloths or towels the majority of the time. My family member was left to lay in a soiled gown for over 3 hours because the CNA/GNA'S said that there were no clean gowns available. I let them know that this was unacceptable and she promised to go to another floor and try and locate a clean gown. How can the nurses do their job if the facility does not provide the necessities that they need in order to care for the residents. The care is DISGRACEFUL on the second floor. The aides are working 13 residents to one aide. Call outs are a constant thing so the residents are the ones left to sit in their own urine and feces. The hallway reeks of feces and bad smells due to lack of resident care. The employment turn over rate is astronomically high. If you hire CNA'S AND GNA'S and they're walking off of the job within 2 weeks, something is wrong and this happens on a regular. Call outs are a constant. They're always short staffed and yet nothing is done about it. Whoever is doing the hiring needs to be replaced because clearly they lack good judgement. My love one has been there for some years and I have tried to transfer them to another facility but due to my family dynamics it has prevented me from making this happen, so I'm left to deal with the piss poor care that is given. I've had many meetings with the administrator Laverne about my loved one's care and incidents that have taken place but it's like everything else over there, they walk the narrow line and then things go back to the way they were. The facility reprimands the employees that actually care about the residents and care about the level of care that they give to them but yet the slackers get rewarded. Make it make sense because it sounds backwards to me. Towson Rehabilitation needs to shut down their long term care floor(s) and revamp it starting with management on down the line. The owners ought to be embarrassed and ashamed to say that they are owners of Towson Rehabilitation and Health Care. You can tell that they spend as less money as possible for the products and care that's needed for the residence in that facility. If your loved one is residing there for long term care, for God's sake PLEASE go and check on them! By all means necessary try and get them transferred to a different facility. It's all about a dollar over there and the owners make sure they cut corners and costs on EVERY level! God Bless the Residents.

The worker asked me is everything ok I said no, do you have any bug spray because it's knots all over the place. Her exact words were oh! That happens every time it rains so it's been like that for awhile. What ever you do don't bring your loved ones if you love them here.
