we had the tea service for my mom's birthday today. Plenty of savory sandwiches and sweets. Service and attention to detail was outstanding.

    Gleneagle's Loin of Venison

Colin Smith, the creative genius behind the restaurant, Balmoral, is truly a perfectionist. He gave us a flawless dining experience . From the live piper at the doorway, to the smiling young lass hostess, to the extremely knowledgeable and charming waiter, Ryan, to the presentation, quality and service, a memorable evening was had. We even got to meet the executive chef, Joe Schroeder who orchestrates the creation of this fine dining. The food preparation and presentation left us wanting to try everything on the menu. Since Balmoral is our new favorite epicurean delight we look forward to exploring more of the tempting menu. Our selections included The True Scotch Egg, The Ye Auld Cullen Skink, Musselburgh's Fish and Chips, The Gleneagle's Loin of Venison and two desserts selected by the chef himself. For a true gastronomic adventure, Balmoral offers a harmonious blend of exceptional food, impeccable service, and a captivating ambiance. We can't wait to visit Balmoral for their Sunday Roasts and we definitely want to experience the Young Bonnie Prince Charlie's Beef Wellington. Thank you Colin, for bringing Old World charm and elegance to the New World.

Dined here for the first time, Sunday 3-29-2026! Drove an hour to have lunch here--it was well worth the schlep from the Palatine/Arlington Heights area! Loved how they had a gentleman playing the bagpipes and greeting you upon your arrival at the restaurant, with his awesome musicianship!! (He also played Happy Birthday at least 3 times that day, for 3 folks celebrating their birthdays!) The place looks like a comfy, classy country manor home, with dark wood interior and coffered ceilings! It's also clean throughout the whole place! For appetizers, I had the Haggis and Scotch Egg; for entree, the Roast Leg of Lamb; for dessert, the Toffee Pudding Cake, and a pot of hot Scottish Blend Tea! Everything was absolutely fresh, flavorful, hearty, and delicious! My server, Ryan, did a great job taking care of me the whole time! I will definitely be back!!

This has been on my list for quite some time. Originally, I wanted to do the tasting menu but it's only limited to Mon-Thurs. I think it's too busy on Fri-Sun and they don't have enough staff if multiple people wanted the tasting menu. When you walk towards the restaurant, you are greeted with a bag piper. Shout out to Savanna P. She was our waitress. She was very kind and attentive. We ordered William Wallace's deviled eggs 4 ways, Rosyth haggis drambuie, Young Bonnie Prince Charlie's Beef Wellington, Manor house duck legs, creamy butter mashed potatoes, and ye auld sticky toffee pudding. Prices are very fair, Scottish food is not very common in Illinois. Portions are very sufficient, you'll be full. Parking is easy. If you go on Fri-Sun, I recommend making a reservation. Just a note, the bread and butter was one of the highlights. If you know, you know, -deviled eggs 4 ways 5 - you have smoked salmon with egg roe, crispy bacon with red onion, spicy jalapeño, and traditional with mustard. They're all pretty good if you like deviled eggs. My personal favorites are the traditional egg with mustard and the smoked salmon. -haggis drambuie 5 - first time trying haggis. Haggis is made from sheep's pluck (heart, liver, lungs). It's very savory and goes well with the crisp toast. I took the leftovers home and ate it with rice. -beef wellington 5 - it was prepared and cooked well. Great price for this. The pastry on the outer layer was flaky. Meat was a perfect medium rare. You don't want to have it cooked longer otherwise it won't be the same. -duck legs 5 - this was my personal favorite. I would rank above the wellington. Duck is super tender and juicy. That golden maple citrus glaze and the herbs made this dish very delectable. -butter mashed potatoes 5 - mashed potatoes were perfectly creamy and buttery. It has a nice texture. Honestly, I could eat a bowl of this alone. -sticky toffee pudding 5 - We thought it was going to be sweet but it wasn't at all. Maybe just a hint but it's a good dessert to finish the meal. The date cake is very moist. Definitely try to eat the date cake with the whisky custard and toffee sauce in every bite.

We had an excellent Easter Dinner. Every table was occupied and it did not affect service nor quality of our meals. The bagpiper was wearing a bunny costume and the kids and adults enjoyed listening to the music and capturing a photo with the bunny.

What an adorable space celebrating the Scottish history and culture! Down to the entrance, where you are immediately greeted by a bagpipe playing greeter.... What a way to set the tone! The place settings were so very cute and you can picture yourself at a kitchen table in Scotland. The ambience is very nice and filled with business meetings, to anniversaries, to family dinners. You can tell this place is special to many. We ordered appetizers and the mushrooms are a must- no pics taken because they were gone immediately. I ordered the beef Wellington- never had it before- it did not disappoint. The sides were plenty and I was full before dinner ended. The waitstaff was incredible and accommodating to our requests. Overall, a very special place to dine and enjoy a unique evening with friends!

In the past six+ years, I have dined at Balmoral more than 30 times. It continues to be just as fantastic a experience as it was the first time. The staff is always friendly and efficient in their service. You will find a great menu full of Scottish themed fare. Some of my favorites are the duck dishes, the rabbit, and the Wellington. The starters are really great too. I especially like the Fat Bastard, the bone marrow, or any of the soups. And all of this excellence takes place in a richly wood panelled dining room. If you are a party of two, ask to sit at the table in the alcove. It's my wife and my favorite.

Fine dining prices for Texas Roadhouse quality food. The atmosphere is very nice. Plaid walls and carpet with a very nice coffered ceiling. The service was also excellent. The food on the other hand, was less than to be desired. It wasn't good. Tough cuts of meat. Bland sides and sauces. All in all it was very disappointing. I will not return and would definitely skip it. It's on par with any chain steakhouse and not worthy of the price. I would consider coming for tea or to grab a drink at the bar, but that's about it

had a great time. good spot for whiskey fans. i would like to bring more family and friends in the future. they gave us a punch card for after 12 visits u receive a $500 gift card. you just have to go 12 times within a year of the first punch i believe and spend $100 minimum not including alcohol. the skink soup was good, $11 for a bowl, not bad. the macaroni and cheese my daughter had was a good portion size. this place is great for kids. the whiskey was excellent some were out of stock tho i wanted to try. next time i will get the deviled eggs. bangers and mash was good but i enjoyed the carmelized onions the best. the sides i got i liked too. honey glazed carrots and sweet potatoes. the chicken caesar salad was a good portion size too. i like the comfy seats they have cause after all this food it's nice to have some cushioning. if you haven't been here yet you really should make a drive out. i tried the salmon too and that was really good. basically everything we had was good. just would have been nice if the fish dishes came with a side. if you like ciders they have magners, the pear flavor. service was good but nothing was offered for a birthday dessert which is not expected either so i didn't mind. the only reason i cut off a star was cause not paying cash just cost us a lot more which i think is a little chintzy. so bring cash and give this place a try!

I came here with my friends for the afternoon tea as our holiday gathering. This is my first time coming to this restaurant. The decoration transported me to somewhere in the Scottish highland. We were greeted by very cheery and attentive wait staff, who explained patiently on the tea selection. When the food came, she also took the time to explain what's on the collection. The food was good. I enjoyed the Cancun chicken salad mini sandwich, which has a bit of spicy kick. The scones have soft and warm center, perfect for the cream and jam. There was certainly more food than we could eat. We had left over to take home. Will come back to check out dinner in the future.

We were there on Friday, so the fish and chips were all-you-can-eat. So crispy on the outside and flakey on the inside. So yummy. If you've never had proper Stovies, this is your chance to try them. Potatoes and onions with bits of roast kind of like mashed potatoes or a very thick stew. So yummy. Whiskey fans, you'll love the huge selection along with the impressive beer selection. Yelp should really hype this as a whiskey bar, too. It more than qualifies. The cuisine is phenomenal. Pro Tip: if you can tolerate a large quantity of fish, visit on a Wednesday for their AYCE Fish & Chips. I've had many hum drum AYCE dinners that are drab and only fill you up. Not this one. It's a great meal and a great deal. The Shepherd's Pie was fabulous, as was the Bangers and Mash. They've created a Haggis Burger that has to appease Americans, yet, still be haggis. A tall order since most would hate "true" haggis. Fear not, it's not your grandfather's haggis, it is a tasty burger. The fries were great but I'd recommend the Tattie Skins. We tasted so many different malts it was hard to pick a favourite. No foolin' they had island malts, highland malts, speyside and even a couple from the lowlands. Easy to spend over two hours in this public house. We did. Can't wait to get back to this town. This is a must! 02/26

The mushroom and kale pie was nice and cheesy and the rocking vegan pie was more savoury, with a variety of vegetables and chickpeas as stuffing. The crust was neither too soft nor too crunchy. The dipping sauce that came with the chips reminded me of tikka masala sauce, and paired beautifully with the chips. Dessert was toffee pudding: the caramel sauce that came with the pudding was delectable - the pudding itself was excellent and not overly sweet. The chicken pie I think really needed the chutney that you can get separately. But that made it so much better and made it my preferred pie. The steak and ale pie was better than the chicken pie as a standalone, but needed a bit more gravy I think to elevate it. Sticky toffee pudding again was delicious.
