A friend and I recently returned to the Rose Bowl flea market after more than a decade. I used to…read moredo a lot of Thrifting, but slowed down once I started shopping online on eBay, Etsy, Poshmark, and similar sites. It does not match the thrill of seeing things firsthand, but definitely saves time. We did not go super early in the morning when they probably had the best stuff because neither of us were looking for anything specific. Just wanted to check it out. There is definitely a large amount of vintage clothes, furniture, housewares, and other collectibles. There are a couple of plant stalls, although we only checked out one. It is awesome. That real bathrooms are available as opposed to ports potties. There is a small food court and a couple of food and drinks stands throughout although the selection isn't super gourmet. I believe the coffee was well over $10 a cup and that is for iced coffee, not cold brew. I don't think there were any espresso drinks. It can get quite hot walking around in the parking lot so I would suggest dressing accordingly. I noticed several people brought little carts to carry their purchases. The parking is free, but there is a lot of walking so you would have to carry your purchases a long way if you do not have a cart.

Great for people watching. The serious buying all happens before the sun even rises. Prices are…read moreelevated above other markets due to the size and frequency of. Overall a fun time to walk around if it's not too hot out. Can be unpleasant during summer months due to lack of shade and heat. Go and see the beat items but keep the wallet closed.

And it's very family friendly - they even have games like a giant Connect Four and bean bag toss! I have to say I was just a tad surprised at the size - the name "night market" gave me visions of something like the 626 market - but this is much smaller so just be aware. But I think that's a good thing - much smaller crowds and more local sellers! There was even a DJ playing fun, energetic music. There are several rows of booths offering all sorts of fun items - jewelry, ceramics, art, crafts, foods and treats- even Halloween items! There was also even a Henna artist. They had several food booths as well - tacos and pizzas, bubble tea and a lovely fruit booth that even had açaí bowls! Yum!! It's in a pretty central location in the SGV and there was plenty of street parking. I read there's a parking lot but I didn't find it - but like I said - plenty of street parking. There was a Yelp Elite event going on but I wasn't part of it this time - just came out to support some local businesses! It's free to enter but they ask that you reserve free tickets on Eventbrite - not sure why though bc there's no check in area or anything - I reserved 3 tickets for my party but couldn't find where we needed to show them - you basically just walk in. Very very similar to the local farmers markets that you'd find in places like Old Town Monrovia etc.

There is plenty of parking for those who would like to drive and park off of Las Tunas. I opted to just walk since I was less than a mile away. For a night market, it was quite small. Two rows of small nic nacks you can buy ranging from jewelry to essential oils. There was a small food section that had Korean bbq, Mexican food and pizza. We opted to try the Korean BBQ from GOCHU Gang. It was very delicious! You can definitely smell it from afar. The only thing was they didn't have their prices or what's on the menu listed on a stand. They did say they had a online menu but there is no posts with a QR code. So we just blindly ordered essentially and asked what they recommended. There were a few stands with dessert such as the cookies from Crackle n Puff and crepes. I do wish the night market was bigger. There weren't many things to see and the stands that were there were very selective. Night markets are usually more successful when there is a variety of stands. Overall, it was cute and small. If you're into a small and free night markets, it would be a cute night out. We spent about a little over an hour there. Just don't have super high expectations like the large night markets.

There are two things on my list, and I didn't find any of them, which was disappointing, especially since they are relatively common items, but I did find many other items for much less than I expected to pay. There are many vendors, and most of the things are overpriced, but if you have the time to really hunt, you can find great deals. I'm allergic to haggling, by the way. The big disappointment of the day was that the watch battery guy was not there. I asked around, and was advised that he no longer attends this swap meet. Bummer, because I had six watches that need new batteries. Phooey! I will be back next week looking for the two items on my list. I suppose I could just go to Target or Ross, but the swap meet is much more fun. BTW, the food vendors are mid with limited seating, and cost about the same as any other taco/tamale place. May as well eat before you get there. Also, parking sucks.

I always love a good plant section and the $1-3 clothing bins. Great experience and I felt safe with my family there. I've been to several swap meets in socal and this one was pretty small but decent. Definitely coming back.

[Hours]: Every Saturday from 5 PM to 11 PM. Fridays will be closed in summer 2023 as the organizer wants to focus all energy and resources on a single day. [Parking]: $10 per vehicle. Confusing parking entrance with another misleading "parking" entrance, but the entrance is not right if (1) no one is collecting $10 and (2) visitors should not be driving on a dirt road. [Activities]: Currently the night market offers the following activities - free bull rides from 5 PM to 6 PM, free slime shop for the first 20 kids at 7 PM, free face painting from 7 PM to 8:30 PM, music performance from 8 PM to 10 PM, and clown show from 6:30 PM to 7 PM. [Vendors]: Admission is free, but please note that this night market has a security guard and the guard will check bags for all visitors. As the name implied, this is a "family" night market so do expect to see naughty d-cake. Our party came at 6 PM and most vendors didn't have crazy long waiting lines. There are slightly less food vendors here comparing with vendors at Ave 26 On Imperial. About 20% of vendors were selling accessories at the entrance. Some examples include: # Birria World # Two Six Kitchen (quesadillas) # Local Fish Tacos (tacos de pescado y camarón) # Carnitas Estilo Michoacan Ave 26 (carnitas tacos) # Tacos de Canasta "El Rey" (tacos de canasta aka basket tacos) # Tacos Dorados La Gringa # DragonFire BBQ (Asian skewers) - no waiting line # Tacos El Champ (TJ style) # Chiky Pancakes # Unknown boba stand # Valerie's Apples (candy apples) # Unknown pupusas stand # Unknown soul food stand # Unknown pizza stand *** Carnitas taco from Carnitas Estilo Michoacan Ave 26 ($5): Surprisingly delicious with flavorful pork. Asada and al pastor tacos from Tacos El Champ ($3 each): Probably the least expensive tacos visitors will find here - both tacos were pretty solid. Pupusa (pork and cheese with tomato sauce + salad - $4): Honestly it was the worst dish I had for the day. Pupusa and salad didn't taste good salad and tomato sauce was ... sub-par at best. *** While the night market is certainly family friendly, Ave 26 On Imperial or Night Market El Gato are much better options for anyone who's looking for more foodie options.

He was SO personable that I halfway wondered if I had gone to high school with him (I didn't)....but it turns out we are connected - unbeknownst to my hubs - by six degrees of separation with some friends / colleagues in El Monte. Anyway, I didn't learn those details until later, later. Allll that being said, DJ Mark definitely kept the vibe going. He has an array of music and even honored requests for some "IYKYK songs" packed in his "digital music crate" that got my tias dancing on memory lane. Like, I'm talking rare disco! Because I was late to my surprise party he extended his stay and played on, which I truly appreciated. He was a wonderful emcee ensuring that I felt comfortable and very encouragingly gave me the floor to open the party with a speech. That is attention to detail! Part of his services included a Photo Booth. Mark was super responsive and easy to work with as we co-navigated accessing the pictures that our guests took. Definitely photos and memories to be treasured for a milestone birthday, thanks to Dj Mark!!
