My name is Sylvia and I live in Lago Vista, TX. Recently my handyman Richard had to replace a whole existing Baldwin door knob (both inside and outside). This door knob was installed onto a custom oak front door when we built our home in 1992. So it had lasted 32 years!! I was truly amazed that I was able to find a new Baldwin door knob that looked exactly like my former one with the exact same measurements. This was very important; otherwise we would have to stain the inside and outside of the existing oak door. Richard installed the new door knob but we had some questions regarding the locks within the mortise lock handleset. The locks worked a little differently than the one on the original mortise lock handleset. So, Richard wasn't sure if there was something he had done wrong on the installation. So we tried to call the Baldwin customer support number for assistance. However, since they are located on the east coast, and it was late afternoon, they had already closed. As I searched to find someone who might be able to help, I found info for Stan Wingert who is a Baldwin specialist. So, we decided to call him to see if he could help. We spoke to his wife Sharon and she said he would call us when he got home. About 10 mins later Stan called us. Richard explained the difference we had noted in the locking buttons inside the mortise. Stan verified that the installation was correct. But the conversation did not end there. He walked me thru the steps for locking and unlocking the door to make sure I understood how the new lockset worked. He took his time and answered more questions that we had. After the call with Stan, both Richard and I were amazed at how helpful Stan had been despite the distance. We felt truly blessed that we had found Stan and that he was so knowledgeable and most of all so very willing to help us. So, thank you Stan for taking the time to help us! I recently had some issues with a Baldwin door handle. When I had trouble finding a new lever online, I realized the item was probably discontinued. When was the last time someone went ABOVE & BEYOND the effort for you? For us it was yesterday when Stan Wingert installed the acrylic plastic cleats that he hand crafted to fix our window screens. Stan had installed our new Baldwin front door hardware (including new ball-bearing hinges) when we asked him if he knew how we could fix our screen hardware as the window company was no longer in business. Stan offered to make them himself! And yesterday, after Covid delays, he installed the new cleats on 10 windows in our home. Stan came out to repair our Baldwin lockset and 3 door hinges. For 10 years we had to slam shut our front door to be able to lock it. Stan spent well over an hour professionally chiseling the new hinges then reattaching the door. I can now close it with one finger and the lockset operates like brand new. BALWIN being try to their reputation was able to diagnose the problem over the phone and sent out a new replacement part with the caveat that a locksmith should install the new part. Called Stan and ended up talking to his lovely wife. Scheduled the appointment and had to leave 45m after our scheduled time. I called them and was told it was a "window" not an exact time. Okay, whatever. I have a superintendent on site that looks over things when I'm not there. I received a called a few minutes later that Stan was on the way. Great! The only problem is that they didn't want to meet with anyone except me???!!! This isn't a complicated project. Basically replacing the Baldwin hardware with the same thing but in a different color. I'll bet he could fix anything associated with opening, closing, sealing or securing your house... We recently purchased a new house and needed to get the doors re-keyed. It was very easy to schedule an appointment with him. He came highly recommended by my Realtor's office. He was right on time for our appointment. He very quickly and correctly identified the key we had from the previous owner and proceeded to match up everything that had a lockable entry to his new key. But, that's not all! He made several recommendations on how to tighten up my security and applied fixes to hinges on mismatched doors that were re-keyed. Stan! Stan! He's the man!!! I recently rented out a condo and the outside door handle was broken (literally torn away likely from someone trying to break in). The HOA guidelines require the door handle to be fixed to certain specs and recommended two locksmiths. I called the first guy who quoted me an unbelievable price (4 digits) because over the phone, he decided to replace the whole mechanism which was also no longer being manufactured and told me it would probably take 3-4 to order the parts and schedule and installation. I decided to call Stan next. I had a deadbolt that had locked up on my expensive Loewen patio door. The local dealer for Loewen highly recommended Stan Wingert as a Baldwin lock specialist. Although Loewen doors do not use Baldwin locks I decided to give Stan a call based on the recommendation of the store. Stan asked all the right questions from the beginning, including details and pictures of the lock and contacted the door manufacturer in Canada to get a replacement lock assembly delivered. When he arrived at my home he was immediately able to release the patio door and replace the faulty lock assembly within the hour. My 81 year old mother was having trouble unlocking the door to her condo, so she called Wingert's. The gentleman who came out looked at it and explained that the problem wasn't the lock but had to do with the settling of the building. We have been in our house for 6 years with a Baldwin mortise lock in the front door, and just haven't been able to figure out why we can't use a key to unlock from the outside. All it took was one phone call with Stan to solve the mystery! Multiple attempts taking it apart and putting it back together. Even had a locksmith come in to tell us how this is the way it is, California law, emergency egress feature, blah, blah. We contacted Baldwin HQ in PA, and they referred us to Stan. Stan saved our marriage! We had bought a very expensive custom front door with very expensive hardware. The lock on the door never seemed to be right and my wife and I had so many arguments over it. Over months and even a year it was getting worse to the point it would not even lock or some days it would not unlock-the key would not work. Many times my kids had to break into our house for us to get in. The last straw was when I had to break in to my own home through an open window at the back of my house. I told my wife I had it-get your big fancy front door fixed or it's over! After researching to find a locksmith that specialized in the Mortice Lock-the lock we have on our front door-we found Stan. He came to our house same day at 9 pm on a Saturday no less and spent 2 hours fixing everything. I stupidly removed the mortise lock from my door without any prior knowledge. My goal was to install an electronic lock on my front door but once I realized that the space that was hollowed out for the mortise lock wouldnt allow me to install anything, I knew i was in trouble. I contacted Stan Wingert after doing an extensive Yelp search for someone who specializes in Baldwin Hardware. After reading his multiple 5 star reviews, I thought I had found my man. I proceeded to call the office where I was immediately placed on speaker phone with him and his wife Sharon. From the beginning, I really did try to like this guy and his wife especially after reading the raves on their work on Yelp. The persons on the other end of that speaker phone were very condescending and over talked me every chance they got. I tried to overlook it and chalked it up to maybe he or both woke up on the wrong side of the bed. He came off as pretty full of himself. Since my house had had the doors damaged, I was desperately trying to coordinate the repair of the two 8 foot mahogany doors, the refinishing of my existing Baldwin Hardware and the install of all at a convenient time. Since I live bicoastal, I was not going to be able to be there. That in itself created another piece to the puzzle. When it appeared that I had all of the parts arranged with an adequate lead time, I called Stan back to schedule an appointment. He was again very rude, talked to me like I was so stupid, kept asking rhetorical questions and was being overly condescending. As previously, he placed me on speaker phone with him and his wife who equally chimed in. As the customer, I found it incredibly inappropriate. Finally, I called him on his behavior toward me and asked him if he would please just schedule me for the requested date. I promised that if there was a hick up that I would give him plenty of lead time on a cancellation. There was then dead silence on the phone followed by a curt "I will send you your requested quote." In lieu of a quote, he sent me a letter that he was passing on my job without any reason. I was a bit taken back. This business showed complete lack of professionalism toward me on 2 separate dates and now I am the problem. I guess when you deal with a bully what else should I have expected! After during some further searching for others subs, I found that this has not been the first time he has treated a customer in this inappropriate manner. His reputation among several of the Southern California professionals has followed him from other bullied customers complaints. I am thankful he passed on me and I found someone who truly treated me with respect, did a great job and never once acted like they were doing me a favor. No one should reward a business who does not treat their customers with decency, respect and appreciation for them entrusting them with their property. Mr. and Mrs. Weigert, I hope you realize you are not the only game in town. I can assure you that you have lots of competition that appreciate and value their customers. read more
