This dog friendly winery is nothing short of pleasant. The flight comes in test tubes and you can take a glass to pour into. They sell food and I saw people bringing they're own snacks as well. The wine was good but what makes this place special was the view. There is amphitheater seating facing the river so that as many patrons as possible can get an uninterrupted view while they enjoy the wine. read more

As of June 2018, they are located at a beautiful barn overlooking Richmond pond!!! Wine is delicious, owners are present, walking around greeting customers and sharing the joy of their recent location change and upcoming expansion. I think it's going to be even better in the months to come so well worth a visit. The barn had a rustic feel, the locals were very kind and friendly. We also enjoyed the live music for a Saturday afternoon. Chardonnay was my favorite wine there! We will be definitely going back! read more

So I should definitely preface this with the following: we lived in Napa for four years, so our taste for wine is a little....spoiled. An interesting little winery/cellar located in what appears to be a basement. It is a little hard to find as there are not any large signs and you have to drive behind the building in order to see the parking lot and entrance. Upon entering you see a crowded small space full of barrels and around 8 or so tables set up in the middle. We were quickly greeted and seated and decided to partake in the wine tasting. The price was very reasonable and they offered a discount if you purchased enough wine from your tasting price. With each tasting came a brief story of the winemakers family. I felt like I knew a lot about the guy by the end of the entire experience. After the first three stories however, our table began to get a little over it. A couple stories were cute, many seemed very random and pointless. I want to know about the grapes, the process, the flavors, the goal of the blend..how much time the servers talked about the winemaker's story honestly made us feel like he was a little conceited. Not even the best winemakers in Napa do that at their vineyards.... The wine itself was decent considering the area and the fact that grapes aren't really grown here. Have I had better in New England? Definitely. But there were one or two that I'd definitely purchase and drink again. Overall it was a fun experience if you're in the area looking for something to do. But definitely not extraordinary by any means. read more

The best anniversary surprise winery! Stoped by after a hike when we saw all the cars and even though we didn't have a reservation they were so kind to accommodate us! They handled covid social distancing and cleanliness very well. The live music was great! You could tell the owners really care, we felt like we could be part of the family! And of course the wine was awesome! We had a bottle of 'Til Death do Us Part' to celebrate our anniversary. I feel like we could spend every anniversary here :). A really fun wine tasting. For $8, you get a good amount of (delicious) wine. Our server was informative, friendly, and clearly very educated on every wine. Also, you get a refund of your $8 if you spend over $50 on bottles/glasses of wine, which is easy to do because they're really so good. I especially recommend the viognier. 8 small pours of mostly decent wines, each accompanied by a 5 minute story about how they came up with the name. I guess some people find this charming, but we spent a lot of time sitting there with empty glasses while the one person on staff rattled off detailed stories with every single pour for every pair of patrons sitting at the bar. Their tag line, Wicked wines and tall tales, indicates that these boring stories about people you don't know, that went on for way too long, may not have necessarily even happened. I came to drink and learn about wine, not feel like I'm trapped at someone's family reunion with their uncle reminiscing about stuff I don't care about. There was little to no mention of the grapes or the wine making process, but since they import all their grapes from California, maybe there's not much to tell. Even though we felt very neglected, Sarah, the one person working, was just doing her job and was very nice. It was her last day working there, and I was shocked when one of the owners interrupted her as she was about to pour our last taste, because she really needed her to open her going away present at that very moment. WTF. We watched in disbelief as the owner gave a lengthy explanation on the gift's significance, while we sat there with no wine. Oh yeah, the wine. It was mostly good, but most of the better ones were in the $20 and up price range. We had initially planned on staying to have a glass or a bottle of there was anything we liked, but we couldn't wait to get out of there. When Sarah poured our final taste (finally!), I handed her my credit card before she could say one word about the history behind that Riesling label. We went over to Furnace Hill Winery to enjoy the rest of our afternoon. Less yakking, more pouring. read more

our weekend! They open reservations for the week on Monday, and when we looked Monday evening, the live music slots were already sold out. We weren't going to go, but then decided the reviews were too good to pass it up :) We went Friday afternoon in the 12 - 3:30 slot and sat on the patio under the tent. They have the edge of the tent wide open for the beautiful views. They're doing a great job managing the COVID guidelines. Food trucks in for each time slot (we had salads and wraps from Biggins Diggins) and they're strict with tickets for the reserved time slots. The wine was delicious! We had the red blend, rose and chardonnay. It was a rich, buttery chardonnay which can be hard to find. We left with a bottle. Staff and owners were welcoming and service was top notch. My favorite part may have been the owners' dog wandering around! A must visit with a trip to the Berkshires! read more

My sister wanted something different for her bachelorette party. We rented a house in Pittsfield and while researching ideas on Yelp came across Balderdash Cellars. The reviews on Yelp led me to e-mail the owner Christian to set up a private wine taste testing. The owners are the nicest people. We had cheese, nuts, and fruit with our wine tasting. We were told a story about how each wine received its name... making it such a personal experience. My sisters friends made comments such as "this is the best wine tasting I have ever been too" and "the aroma of every wine is amazng" Everyone walked away from the tasting VERY happy. Finding Balderdash cellars was a bit of an adventure in itself. Just look for a sign that may be adverstising for a lemonade sale in the back of a small plaza. Then they had paper signs taped to their doors inviting us in. Don't let this signage deter you from trying some wonderful wines. Christian the owner and wine making was wrapping up from a big group when we came in. He also offered some local cheeses to try along with the 8 wines in his portfolio. There were some really interesting choices, not at all being a wine drinker I couldn't tell you what they were. They were all very enticing. Their tag line is Wicked wines with tall tales. Each label was distinct and had a great tale behind the name of the wines. We were even lucky enough to meet the In-laws behind the name of the Joyride Pino Noir. All in all a great winery that seems to have some lofty goals for their future. read more

We were looking for something to do after hiking in the morning. I had read about a winery before coming to the Berkshires. We looked at the yelp ratings and TripAdvisor which really didn't do justice. After going to 2 different addresses and finally getting in contact with whom I later found out to be the owner/vintner, we got the address of a mansion where they were holding the tastings. The police were outside directing traffic into the mansion. Nice! We arrived inside to see a large group of people sitting around drinking wine, eating cheese and crackers, AND listening to live music. Wow! We went to the table and were given the tasting menu list. All for $9.00!!! We tasted the first 2, white wines, which were absolutely surprisingly delicious. The Chardonnay has all the wonderful characteristics and nuances a beautifully blended Chardonnay should have. The Riesling was light and refreshing. The reds started out with a blend, then a Cabernet, a Grenache, a merlot and finally a Syrah. All had wonderful textures and complexity a well made wine should have. I travel around the world to taste wines( and many other things) and was thoroughly surprised at the amazingly constructed wines at this winery. The story of the owner and his wife is beautiful. I hope they continue to grow as their creations do. read more

I planned a wine tasting as a Hail and Farewell for the outgoing and incoming commanding officers at my husband command. The great thing about the party package I choose is that all my guests and I needed to do was show up. Christian provided the food and the wine. Christian had 9 different wines for us to taste and he paired each one with cheese, fruit, nuts, crackers, or bread. Christian made this night so much fun. He educated us on the process of making and bottling wine. He answered all of our questions and kept us laughing the entire evening. The wines tasted amazing. The name for each wine has a personal story to the owners (Christian and Donna). My favorite white is tie between Bao Bao and Tollbooth. My favorite red is a tie between Brake Light Reserve and Trademark Red. For anyone that is interested they have a nice VIP program with many perks. You should check it out. We visited Balderdash Cellars after reading all of the positive reviews online - and they did not disappoint. We came from Boston on what should have been our wedding day. Since it was postponed due to COVID, we decided to hike Mt Greylock and visit Balderdash Cellars. When the owner heard it was supposed to be our wedding day, she gave us a special bottle of their "Til death do us part" wine and told the musicians who dedicated a song to us. It was so very touching and so sweet. The food, wine, and ambiance were incredible and this ended up being a night we will never forget. Wonderful find in the most unlikely place..... a basement under a Subway. They are really tough to find but well worth it as the wines were amazingly good. We talked to the Owner/Winemaker, Christian, and learned they bring in only the best grapes from California and do everything possible to make them into ultra premium quality wines. Tastings are in a fun setting in the middle of the tanks and barrels in the winery. I learned a lot about he process and enjoyed some terrific wines. My favorite is a really top end Pinot Noir. We purchased several wines and will be buying more. It is a great way to have some fun, try some great wines and learn about wine making from some terrific folks. Hopefully, they will improve the signage to help folks find their wonderful winery. Balderdash Cellars is unlike any other local New England Winery in their focus on making ultra premium wines while making it fun for everyone. I expect big things from them as they grow. read more

I was strolling through Boston Public Market and picked up a bottle of "Invincible" Cabernet Sauvignon 2013. Extremely clever label which instantly caught my eye. As soon and I saw that it was a product was based out of Massachusetts, I had to get it. What a find! Exceptional flavor, and absolutely delicious. All at a consumer friendly price. After doing a little research about the company, I am heading out to their location with my girlfriend. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a bottle that they have not tried yet. Excellent wines. Located in downtown Pittsfield a great spot to stop in and have some wine. They make their own whites and reds. I love the Brakelight Reserve. Be sure to ask about the stories behind the names of all the wines. What a gem this place is. I went with a group of friends as part of a bachelorette party, and we had a great time. Right off the bat, the owner was so accommodating - even though inside was full, they were cool with bringing an outdoor table inside because it was cold out. The wine tasting itself was really fun - our server was amazing - and the portions were pretty generous. At some point when they ran out of pizza they suggested we get pizza from a next door place and were really nice about us eating it in - even providing plates!
