Also a nice variety of Sammy Adams because hey, we're in Mass right?! Best selection of crafts? No. Switchback was about the most unique, but definitely made me smile and think of VT. We had no problem finding something to just throw back while sitting by the fire on a crisp night while roasting s'mores so yes, a successful stop. Prices were standard despite being the only atop around and checkout was easy. They even gave us a bottle opener to take with us. They sell local jerky and lottery tickets also. Lots of funny signs posted around the store, but the one behind the register that reads "I don't call 911" with a photo of a shotgun quickly reminded me "we're not in Kansas aka Philly anymore".

I was very impressed by the variety of meat and cheese. I got myself some smoked salmon pinwheels which were delicious. Our cashier (Julio, I believe) was kind and helpful. He even recommended a cheaper corkscrew than the one we were thinking about since we just needed a single-use corkscrew. They key to this shop is that everything is well organized and the selection is good for a shop of it's size. I met the owner who is very knowledgable in wine and what he has to offer. I believe he is French, which adds a bit of authenticity to browsing the Boudreaux section. I felt like I could trust his recommendations and he was honest and did not pull any punches. He gave me a few informed choices and let me make up my mind vs. pushing one particular bottle on me, which I like. I've been at some stores where the owner is more concerned about clearing out a certain brand or a new product, so I can tell the picks they offer are based on that. However, here, I felt that the owner was doing his best to give me several great recommendations so I would return. And I will. After I got done, another (local) customer asked the owner to pick a wine that goes with mushroom soup, so that is how specific the knowledge is here! The cheese case here is unreal ... there are plenty of great cheeses to choose from and I felt the prices were on par or much better than Guido's or Wholefoods. Don't sleep on the fresh baked breads. I bought what may have been the best fresh sourdough baguette I ever tasted here. It tasted like fresh charred pizza crust. I smacked on it all day. I buzzed the beer selection which looked like it had a lot of very unique picks and they even had cigarettes behind the counter. I did not see cigars but I'm sure they had them somewhere. The store is classy looking ... exactly what you'd expect to find in a town like Stockbridge. I recommend stopping by if you are in town. Never judge a book by its cover ... what seems like a place you might go to buy Bud Light and Slim Jims actually has quite a selection of high end wines, champagne and bourbons of hard to find vintages at reasonable prices (well ... not so much the bourbon, which is at secondary market prices) I was looking for what seemed like an impossible to find vintage of a fairly hard to get in the states French Bordeaux. This wine is well known but does not have many distributors in the US, so after a 6 month search, I was surprised to see it pop up on a Wine Searcher site at only very slightly more than some of the mail order sites which charge $30 - $40 in shipping. It so happened that I was going to be in the area, so I tried to call the store a few times and got no answer. Their website had an email address, so I hit it up and within 4 hours, a response came from the owner that he had a case and could get me a bottle. He was polite and knowledgeable and the responses came fast. I went into the store to find the bottle waiting for me, wrapped in bubble wrap, and we found a couple of other less expensive bottles of French wine that we drank in France but could not find in the US, so we bought a bunch of those too. On the way out, I noticed a bottle of almost 30 year old champagne, which was for sale at around $80 - $100 less than 'market value'. The vintage was a bit past its prime, but the best champagne can hold up, so I purchased it as well. I am very surprised based on the location (ie: being in Pittsfield vs. Lenox or Great Barrington.) ... this place has high end craft beer, the regular stuff (Bud, Bud Light, etc.), budget wines and very high end wines. There really is something for everyone ... a lot of the wines (even less expensive) are curated really well and its clear that the owner knows a thing or two about wines and spirits. Great, friendly customer service and knowledge ... I will stop in each time I am in the area. If you are looking for high end stuff, be sure to ask because it sounded like they might have some in stock in the cellar. I really enjoyed my experience here and whatever you are looking for, you might find it here. While the store isn't modern and fancy, it's clean and well organized and the prices (minus the bourbon) are very fair and reasonable.
