The dish that you really have to order if it's your first time at the Vardar and you might never come back (you fool!) is the kleftiko. (This dish is also widely known, at least in my other half's family, as 'Kalashnikov' - har har!) It consists of a lamb shank cooked according to special (secret?) Greek methods and is utterly, utterly melting and delicious. The meat is so tender you barely need to chew, you could just bite and swallow. All the accompanying vegetables are also delicious (especially the fabulous fried potatoes), but the lamb is the centre and the star of the meal. Do not delay, book in today!

Choice of veg was good, except for the roast pots....it seems no carvery can get these right..!! Regrettably, as with all carveries I have experienced the food is never really hot.....and soon cools before one can complete the meal. Desserts came at a price of £5.95 each with the exception of Ice Cream. One scoop £2.50, tow scoop £4.50 and three scoop £5.95.....quite dear fro Ice Cream. The staff were charming and the place was very clean, BUT a big problem is PARKING. Abysmal....quite a walk to the nearest car park at Surrey Street.

At the back however is The Boat House, a little treasure known by locals and not by tourists. A lovely place to be with a friendly well maintained interior and deck overlooking boats and the river. The owner is so friendly, welcoming and a clever thoughtful lady. The food is genuinely home made, superbly and expertly done. I will definitely be returning, as many of their customers evidently regularly do, as they sit here chatting in the friendly nice environment.
