Desserts were both lovely, chocolate tart and profiteroles but both were more like petit fours size than a dessert. The chips weren't fat or deep fried, but skinny shop bought fries and the peas were hard. when asked by the waitress how everything was, I expressed my disappointment and to be fair to her, she did ask if I wanted her to get the manager, to which I declined. However, if I was manager in the hugely competitive hospitality market at the moment and one of my staff mentioned to me that a customer had been disappointed, I would hurry over there before they left and offer some sort of recompense- voucher, free drink etc. we stayed for another 30 minutes after the meal for a drink in the bar, and no sign of him/her. The ambience spread over to the clientele as it was reasonably quiet. Unlike many pubs where people seemed to need to shout to speak to each other. The menu was interesting with a good selection of dishes but, noticeably, normal Pub Grub with a twist. We stuck to the normal fish and chips. Wonderfully cooked fish with a beautiful tartar sauce. The chips, triple fried. Brilliant. Service was second to none. That young lady was there before we needed to ask. Like she was in your head anticipating your requests. The bathroom is pretty tiny, but nothing too unmanageable. Everything was new, clean and modern. Our hairdryer only worked for 1 minute bursts and then seemed to overheat. My partner said she could hear a bit of music from the pub below, but I couldn't hear it at all. In any case, they closed by midnight on a Saturday night which isn't at all unreasonable. We tried two cocktails. The bartender lady made one that was completely different than what we asked for, but was still quite nice. We both loved a passionfruit cocktail! While we did not end up having dinner here, the helpfulness continued into breakfast. Our server was very lovely and communicated with the kitchen to provide me with a gluten free fry up. They substituted sausage for more bacon, which is always appreciated! And they even had gluten free toast. I had a lovely meal! Overall, I loved the Swan Hotel. It's perhaps a bit pricey considering how small our room was, but I also understand that for a nice, boutique hotel in the middle of a touristy town, that it was probably market value. They have a great selection of real ales on tap and an extensive choice of wines too. The decor fits in with the beautiful Tiny Village that Burpham is. If you'd like to see real English countryside at its best in a proper village, this is the place to go. Just driving to the restaurant along the small road to the village will give you a great feel and the restaurant lives up to it. As somebody who comes to the area or not, I like to come here and it remains what I have always liked about it.
