I liked this restaurant and had been before with no problems. However last night a friend and I arrived for a pre booked table at 20.15. We were chatting and drinking our bottle of wine so took a little while to order. The waitress was clearly very keen to get our order and started to seem a bit fed up. We ordered nachos to share followed by mains. The nachos came quickly, they looked great, served in a thin white bowl placed on a small plate. The waitress put it on the table and disappeared without a word. Both my friend and I had no idea that the bowl was scalding hot, it didn't even look like an oven safe bowl! I reached for my first nacho and slightly brushed the bowl with with my thumb. It was the hottest thing I have ever had the misfortune to touch, just that slight touch and I had a nasty burn. I held my thumb against the cold wine bottle until the waitress came. I told her what had happened and asked if she had something to put on the burn. Without any apology she went and got a glass of ice and slammed it down on the table, then disappeared. She came back with a very brief and cross sounding 'sorry' then went on to ask us if we had dinned here before. We said yes and I also pointed out that I had had nachos in many other restaurants to which she replied you should know that the bowl is hot!!? We didn't know quite what to say! The main came and despite the food being good I struggled to eat it as I needed to have my thumb in the glass of ice. It was very painful. Having finished our main we asked to see the desert menu. At this point and not before, we were told that they closed at 21.00 and desserts were no longer available! I said I was shocked that this had not been mentioned either at the time of booking a table for 20.15 or perhaps when we ordered our food? Again no apology! The bill came and I assume the manager (as he was dressed smarter than the others) came to take my card payment. I told him about the burn and he said that his colleague had told him. He offered a very brief apology as if it was trivial. After we left we were quite concerned by it all. My thumb is blistered. Both of us are Mum's who have taken our toddlers in there before. We were very worried that this could have happened to our children and been extremely serious. I am realistic and know accidents happen but would expect it to be dealt with more appropriately (first aid and accident book are usual) and with plenty of apology, possibly free desserts would have been an appropriate starting point?! read more
