Excellent, long-established restaurant for Mexican and more. Not the cheapest but never disappoints.

There's a cluster of stools where you can sit and enjoy your food before carrying on your journey - or you can grab a plate of food to take away. Unfortunately, the food just isn't that tasty. The fajitas and burritos taste stodgy and bland and the nachos covered in melted cheese and jalapenos taste like cheap cheese. None of this seems to bother the punters however, as the size and cheapness of the portions - £3.50 for massive veg and chicken burritos, £2.75 for nachos - means it's got a constant turnaround of students and locals looking to grab some quick, easy fuel. After too many beers, I sometimes find myself going to El Taco myself. Half an hour later though, I usually end up regretting it and wishing I'd gone home and cooked some fresh fajitas with a side helping of avacado, sour cream and diced red chillis myself.

El Taco, unfortunately did not live up to my standards of what Mexican fast food is. The white rice with melted cheese which becomes like a layer of plastic out of the microwave, and the one tortilla with my taco plate left my stomach begging for something authentic. The only thing authentic in El Taco is the Mexican football flag that hangs from the ceiling. The price seems right for not really charging over £4 for anything, including nachos and quesadillas. El Taco is the type of place you stumble into late at night after too many cervesas, but sober, I would rather have taco night at my place.

Fish and Chips (what, is that Mexican? or Texan? nope just generic) - tick. It's a massive space as well, and when we were there, there were only 4 other tables. Which made it feel like one of those towns on the Mexican border, where tumbleweeds are blowing and the townsfolk are hiding behind swinging doors. Them ones. Yup, just really average, and really boring. Didn't like this brand of tequila 'n' Tex 'n' Mex very much.

I fully intended to come back for dinner, but everything on the menu sounded good and I had skipped lunch. I opted for a burrito to take back to the hotel with me. When I got back to my room and opened up the bag, I couldn't believe how big the burrito was! Wow. As for the flavor? It wasn't bad, but it wasn't quite Mexican food. It's kind of a fusion .. of what, I'm not sure. Regardless, it was a good burrito, the salsa was okay - not great. Chips were disappointing (store bought). I know I'm spoiled being from Southern California, I'm used to getting freshly made chips at most restaurants. I'd definitely eat here again. Expectations have been appropriately managed.

Tequila Tex-Mex - Very tasty. This restaurant is dialed into the flavored and textures of Telmex. Reasonable prices too. Check it out.

Since this place cropped up a few months ago, I've been dying to try it! As a lover of Mexican…read morefood, I am always happy to welcome new Mexican joints to the city - especially ones that look as vibrant and enticing as Carlito Burrito. I went in for dinner here on a Wednesday night and the place was completely packed. We got seated (just!) at a lovely big table in the window, decked out in a colourful, bright table cloth. The restaurant, being rather small, was buzzing and had a great atmosphere about it. Now, I wasn't that hungry when I arrived but as soon as you walk through the door and smell that food, I wager that anyone's stomach would start to rumble. The menu is perfect - just enough to satisfy most customers but not overwhelmingly large. I opted for a pork burrito and, let me say, I was not disappointed by my choice. First let me say that I've been on the hunt around Brighton for a top-notch burrito for a while now, so whenever I sit down to try one, my expectations are high! There's a lot that can wrong with a burrito, so it can be a bit underwhelming, but then, there's a lot that can go right... Carlito Burrito have nailed it (as they should have, considering they even have burrito in their name). My meal was packed full of flavour and texture, staying piping hot throughout and was just the right amount for a hungry person. Granted, it was an absolute nightmare to eat - my friends were no doubt ashamed to be sitting with me by the end of it, my hands and face covered - but the mess is so so worth it!! My friends had the fish tacos which looked gorgeous and apparently tasted delicious as well, but were certainly a smaller portion, so if you're looking for something filling then the burrito is the choice for you! It's been a few days now and I'm still thinking about that meal. I'm so thrilled that I've finally found an epic Brighton burrito (though my physique my not be thanking me in a few months time). Being new to Brighton, it was great to see this place thriving as well! Carlito Burrito is well worth a visit! Friendly staff, great atmosphere and hands down the tastiest Mexican food I've tasted yet in Brighton! Get there! Quickly!
