Hmmm. It's very pretty, beautifully decorated, friendly and I like that people are starting to realise the viability of non tex-mex Mexican cooking in the UK - but man, that was a disappointing burrito. too much rice which had green bits that promised a cilantro tang that wasn't, in fact, there. Barely seasoned refried beans. Good Verde sauce, but nowhere near enough of it and pork, all in one end, that had as much unpalatable rind as meat. The good bits of the pork were almost lovely - you could tell from the smokey aftertaste that there had been love involved somewhere along the line but it had been left uncoaxed by salt or pepper and didn't stand a chance against the stodginess of it's bedfellows. The whole thing was unseasoned and bland - all very well if you eat in and have access to their service area with it's necessary salt and hot sauce, but no good as an in car takeaway - unless you have a full cruet set and a selection of aged pepper sauces in your car, in which case, well done: you rule. I'd go back to try the tacos - usually a menu item with less places to hide and scrimp beneath piles of cheap stodge - and the tortillas and dips looked worth eating - but you can literally get a better burrito in Victoria Station and that can't be right surely?

Blood orange & chilli margaritas - a must try!

I wish I could give this place 10 stars!!!! The second I walked in through the curved blue door I knew I was going to like La Choza - there was a warm welcome from the staff and the decor was amazing. Full of colour, day of the dead memorabilia, skulls and more kitsch religious statues & paintings than you can shake a bottle of tequila at - I was in heaven! This is all before I even started on the food. We were in a large group so we ordered lots of dishes to share which worked brilliantly. We started with nachos topped with shredded beef, pulled pork, refried beans & guacamole. Next up were tortillas filled with salad, cheesy chillies, prawns, sweet potatoes & more beef. I thought I was going to burst until the churros with caramel dipping sauce were put in front of me, somehow I managed to squeeze two of these delights into my already happy tummy. Drinks wise we had a range of Mexican beers to choose from, tequila, lime margaritas and my favourite of all, the homemade blood orange & chilli margarita! This is a real gem in Brighton & I can see why it is so popular.

Burrito bowl with chicken

Super colorful shop with a fun menu and quick service! We came on a Monday afternoon right when they opened. The restaurant was a bit nippy but maybe because we were the first guests. My husband and I ordered fried calamari to start, him a burrito and me a burrito bowl. The food came pretty fast. The calamari was good just a bit too salty. We did enjoy our mains though. The bowl and burrito were jam packed with ingredients! I would be surprised if someone left here hungry. The waitress was nice and with a full lunch rush, she was trying her best. This place gets five stars for good menu, fair prices, bright and lively decor, quick service and tasty/high quality food. It's also fairly easy to find and near many other shops!

Ladies that lunch!!!

My friends and I decided to go for lunch here whilst in Brighton and I must say, the food was incredible. It was hot enough for us to sit outside and the waiter/waitresses made a point of ensuring we had everything we needed by making regular trips out to us. I have been in May establishments where the outside diners are neglected and so this was a big win for me. Overall a great meal a fantastic service. Would definitely return.

Basically a carnitas burrito

This is probably the best Mexican food I've found in England. Coming from southern California, it's hard to find quality and authentic Mexican food. Although I was disappointed to see nachos on the menu and some flavor was lacking (a good burrito needs more pico de Gallo) this will definitely hold me over until I get back home

I enjoy this Mexican Taco's in Brighton, we had Taco's and chips and with with Soda's with the best churros and Carmel Sauces. Try this place and see what you think ?

Pulled chicken corn tacos with habanero salsa at La Choza, Brighton.

I was a tourist on a lovely summer day in Brighton, wandering the Laines looking to stop for something to eat. The delicious smell from this restaurant and the lively decor caught my eye so I decided to check it out. I come from a neighborhood in New York with a lot of authentic Mexican and Colombian street food and while this wasn't exactly that, it was very tasty nonetheless. I got three chicken tacos with a habanero salsa that was the perfect amount of spicy. I was a little more than "three tacos"-hungry but I knew what I was getting into with the portion size. Would really like to try the sweet potato and feta if I ever get back down to Brighton on my next London adventure. Affordability, friendly staff, and beautiful decor with optional outside dining make this place a win!

Since this place cropped up a few months ago, I've been dying to try it! As a lover of Mexican…read morefood, I am always happy to welcome new Mexican joints to the city - especially ones that look as vibrant and enticing as Carlito Burrito. I went in for dinner here on a Wednesday night and the place was completely packed. We got seated (just!) at a lovely big table in the window, decked out in a colourful, bright table cloth. The restaurant, being rather small, was buzzing and had a great atmosphere about it. Now, I wasn't that hungry when I arrived but as soon as you walk through the door and smell that food, I wager that anyone's stomach would start to rumble. The menu is perfect - just enough to satisfy most customers but not overwhelmingly large. I opted for a pork burrito and, let me say, I was not disappointed by my choice. First let me say that I've been on the hunt around Brighton for a top-notch burrito for a while now, so whenever I sit down to try one, my expectations are high! There's a lot that can wrong with a burrito, so it can be a bit underwhelming, but then, there's a lot that can go right... Carlito Burrito have nailed it (as they should have, considering they even have burrito in their name). My meal was packed full of flavour and texture, staying piping hot throughout and was just the right amount for a hungry person. Granted, it was an absolute nightmare to eat - my friends were no doubt ashamed to be sitting with me by the end of it, my hands and face covered - but the mess is so so worth it!! My friends had the fish tacos which looked gorgeous and apparently tasted delicious as well, but were certainly a smaller portion, so if you're looking for something filling then the burrito is the choice for you! It's been a few days now and I'm still thinking about that meal. I'm so thrilled that I've finally found an epic Brighton burrito (though my physique my not be thanking me in a few months time). Being new to Brighton, it was great to see this place thriving as well! Carlito Burrito is well worth a visit! Friendly staff, great atmosphere and hands down the tastiest Mexican food I've tasted yet in Brighton! Get there! Quickly!

You must book on weekends as it gets quite busy but don't let this put you off as, in true Mexican style, the more people that arrive the better the atmosphere gets. If you like fajitas pop down Mon or Wed as they offer large chicken or vegetarian fajitas for £15 and these will easily fill two hungry tummies. Other deals include Tapas for two for £15 on Tuesdays and a two-course special menu available Sun-Thurs for £8.95. This place is great for special occasions as the sangria flows freely (£10 per jug) and the staff are more than accommodating. The staff member approached me and directed me to a table right next to a busy table full of rather load people, as it was the only table with people on it I thought I could sit somewhere a little away from the noise, (my mistake) so I kindly asked if I could sit up the back of the restaurant, she pointed me in the direction and left me too it. From the service to the food, well what can I say overpriced and as far from Mexican food I have had, very tasteless, just nothing to it what so ever, no chicken in the chicken chimichanga but plenty of refried beans but again over cooked, just not very good at all. All round avoid this place, the service and food was bad, I have eaten Mexican food in many places including Mexico and America and this was just an insult to a fine cuisine.

The food in here really is distinctly meh. Nothing to blow anyone's socks off, I'd vouch. It's fine. It's average! But who wants fine and average when they're dining out? I can cook fine and average very well at home, thanks! Firstly, let me just say that in terms of speedy, relatively cheap food (£5 for a 'medium' (massive) burrito) this place is a-ok. It's quick service and easy to take away or sit-in with. So, if that's what you're after, then by all means stop on by. However, if you're after great Mexican food, this place is likely to disappoint. The system is simple. You pick your dish and the servers build it for you right then and there. A Mexican subway, if you will. The staff are pleasant enough and quick about their work, so no real complaints there. Everything I've tried from here has been rather bland. The meat is tasteless, be it the pork, the chicken or even the beef that costs more to add in. It's a little on the dry side and lacks that juicy, flavoured quality a good burrito has. I added guacamole (extra cost again, as per usual in these joints) and even the spiciest salsa and still, the tastes were underwhelming, to say the least. Even the tortilla wraps (their very namesake!!) are a little too gooey for my liking! I don't rate this place and, despite it's temptingly close proximity to my flat, I think I have finally given up hope on it. There are too many decent Mexican places around that, for little extra cost, will offer much tastier and more flavoursome food!

The prices are pretty good value for money and nice and tasty and something different to a sandwich or burger. Great seating options with a few booths on the main level as well as seating downstairs and upstairs. Pretty simple menu with everything you need including other options, if you maybe don't want a burrito and want it in a bowl instead. Also a few added extras one can put on their meal. When I was sitting eating, the customers came rolling in getting a mixture of take away and seated. Nice job.

I also had myself a nice black coffee (it was one of those days!)... The food menu is great here and there are plenty of appealing options to choose from. I spotted steak and chips for a mere £11 (plus £1 for peppercorn sauce, which of course I added) and was a little dubious... Steak and chips for £11? It's hard to not expect poor quality at that price, but I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised. The steak was great and cooked medium rare, as requested. The chips were AMAZING and the added peppercorn sauce was delicious and came a-plenty as well, so worth the £1 extra in my books. There was also a lovely big side salad that came with the dish, making it a hearty and tasty meal at such a bargain price! The setting is lovely in here too. I was able to bring my pup inside, which is such a massive plus for me, and there was a really friendly and comfortable atmosphere!
