My favourite though is The Plough. It's set back at the rear of the village, next to the picturesque pond. The clientele include a good mix of locals, visitors and walkers. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and the service is efficient. We had Sunday lunch here last weekend and it was a pretty good effort. My partner and I both went for the roast beef. It was tasty, good quality and well cooked. The Yorkshires were homemade, and the veggies were good but there could have been more of them. The only disappointment were the roast potatoes which tasted like they had been finished off in the deep fat friar! The portions were not ginormous but it was filling and it's good sometimes not to have the opportunity to over eat! We did have to move tables during our meal as we realised we were sat under the tele which was a bit annoying when the rugby started, and a group of men started cheering over our dinner! Unfortunately, the pub only has a small courtyard garden, this place is crying out for more outdoor space. It's not a bad option for a Sunday roast though.

The tatar sauce was to die for - I have no idea what was in that stuff, but it was amazing. The fish didn't have too much breading on it, which I like. Plus it stayed crunchy up until the end (though I did split it, so about half the normal eating time). The chips were just fine, nothing special, and the mashed peas were lacking in flavor - I was hoping for a little more mint. We also had the crab cake - which was more like a potato pancake. I'm not sure I tasted any crab in it at all. But there were all kinds of veggies in there, and the breading was good on that as well. It tasted good - just didn't taste like crab. The hummus was delicious - the bread hot, and lots of flavor in the hummus. The staff was super friendly and sat us right away. It does get busy on a Saturday night, so be sure to get there a bit earlier (we arrived around 6:30) to get a seat. The wine selection is pretty good and reasonably priced. I did not drink beer, but they had a few craft beer options that I saw. Overall great place to spend some money on some delicious food with a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

It is absolutely beautiful and traditional inside with all the wooden beams etc. We were greeted quickly and sat right in the back by the lovely wood burning fireplace. The menu is amazing and has so many options, it even has a lot of options for vegans which surprised me but it's very good. To start I had the tiger prawns and garlic bread, Both were extremely good. For mains I had the special which was a fish pie and it was hands down one of the best things I have ever eaten. I now dream about this pie and want to fly back just to eat it. For pudding I had apple and sultana crumble which to be honest I didn't like the crumble part, it was too sweet. The service here was very friendly and helpful but at times a little slow, which I didn't mind but could be frustrating to others. I would highly recommend this pub to eat at, the food still doesn't disappoint many years later! Definitely a nice place for socializing too as it is nice and quiet inside so you can actually have a conversation at dinner which is something I always struggle to find nowadays.

The ambience spread over to the clientele as it was reasonably quiet. Unlike many pubs where people seemed to need to shout to speak to each other. After a drink we were guided to a table in the restaurant. Lovely young lady that would serve us this evening. The menu was interesting with a good selection of dishes but, noticeably, normal Pub Grub with a twist. We stuck to the normal fish and chips. Wonderfully cooked fish with a beautiful tartar sauce. The chips, triple fried. Brilliant. Service was second to none. That young lady was there before we needed to ask. Like she was in your head anticipating your requests. Price was more than reasonable. Looking forward to visiting our friends in Arundel again and another visit to this gem on the river.

You have to order at the bar and tell them your table number which is ok except they did not put signs about that anywhere so people had to go out again to figure it out. Tons of room inside btw. Mum ordered a fish finger sandwich which was ok but somewhat bland, lacking any flavour beyond the beading. I got the burger and they did not ask how well done. I got 2 overcooked, pre made burgers that had zero flavour. Prices are steep but that is to be expected. But at least try to make food that is better than McDonald's.
