Dr. Delaney has been treating for severe back pain . She prescribed medicine that offset most of the pain that I was experiencing . She then performed very successful MILD surgery on my back. It was the best surgical procedure I have ever had and I have had bladder surgery, lung removal surgery and brain surgery. I feel I have completely recovered from my back problems. I'm walking two miles a day and 60 minutes on an exercise bike with no pain. read more

Three weeks ago, I posted a very detailed review of Dr. Delaney. Yelp said it was immediately live. I looked today and it shows no evidence of that ever being posted. It is a good thing I saved my notes for the review. I HOPE this time it is not removed!! My journey to Dr. Delaney began after struggling several years with low back pain. I absolutely should have taken it more seriously instead of trying to just mask my pain with handfuls of ibuprofen (that part created a whole other gastro issue that I now have to deal with...) But I finally went for diagnostic x-rays and ultimately MRI to see bulging disc. The pain reached a level where some of my activities were affected. My primary doctor prescribed me some pain meds and referred me to see a pain management clinic. When I started looking at the pain clinics in my insurance network, there were a number of locations that were much closer to my house, but they were mostly male doctors. Over the years of seeing doctors, I have become more comfortable seeing women doctors. I have noticed that some (not all) male doctors have been dismissive towards me. Anyway, I saw Dr. Delaney's name came up and started doing some searching about her. Lots of different Google Reviews, Yelp Reviews, and on other websites. Even though she is in Walnut Creek about a 35 minute drive, I wanted to give her a try. My first impression in meeting Dr. Delaney in August of last year is that she was warm and caring, I felt comfortable with her in no time. We went over the symptoms I was having and then talked about the diagnostic tests I'd previously had. She thought I would be most helped with epidural steroid injections and explained the process of how and when they'd be administered. I had a series of three steroid injections over the course of two months last year that lasted at least six months. Yesterday, began the second round of injections. I've seen Dr. Delaney over ten times in the past year and every time I've had an appointment with her she has always been very attentive and listens to everything I have to say and she's honest and direct. She's offered other types of treatments such as medications to deal with my nerve pain that I didn't want to try and she never pushed them on me. I've never had to wait for my appointments. In reading some of the negative Yelp reviews, I wondered if they were seeing the same doctor that I was seeing. She has been wonderful, as has all of her staff. They take care of all my needs and I do appreciate them all. THIS is why I will drive 35 minutes to my appointment with no concern at all, thank you Dr. Delaney! read more

Dr Delaney and her Staff are some of the friendliest people I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. In addition to being an absolute joy, she found and fixed/treating multiple pain issues (chronic prostatitis, 2 torn rotator cuffs, just to name two)that no other doctor in 6 years and dozens of specialists have been able to treat. I had been in constant pain 24 hours a day to the point i couldn't sleep since 2012 until I came here. If you are thinking of going somewhere else, don't. This review is long over due. I saw Dr DeLaney a half dozen times from September thru November. I have read other positive reviews of this practice and I concur wholeheartedly. The staff was great and welcoming. Both professional but courteous. I cannot say enough positive things about Dr DeLaney. I have met many physicians over the years but none that were more compassionate and yet spent the time to understand the origin of their patients pain. I cannot recommend this practice enough. If you are in pain and been shuffled around the medical field then make Balanced Pain Management your last stop. I regret not doing this review sooner. Aweful experience... Stay away ! I was scheduled for a PRP treatment and on the morning of the day before the appt, I had a much more urgent medical need and the time was going to conflict with my appt with Dr. Delaney. So I cancelled and said I would call back later in the week to resc. I was immediately reprimanded that 48 hour notice is required to resc without penalty, yet I looked up the doc. I signed and it said 24 hours notice. My follow up call was with "Cameron" who for the third time, was very abrupt on the phone and this time flat out off the hook angry saying I had cost the office hundreds of dollars and other bizzare accusations, and get this- the Dr. was right there with her appoving of this insane rant ! I had to agree to pay part of the fee for the proceedure in advance to schedule a new appt and could only get this advance back with 48 hours notice. AND- if I cancelled again, I would not be allowed to EVER come back to this office. Eventually, I realized this was an illegal agreement- what if I got the flu ? or had an emergency to take care of ? So I cancelled well in advance and moved on- after thinking about their process with this proceedure, they had a recovery protocal that conflicted with every other clinic using this proceedure- allowing Celebrex to be taken, claiming a very short recovery time of a week or two, and so on....in contrast to the typical 6-8 week recovery and no NSAIDS allowed. read more

After visiting Balanced Pain Management a few days ago, I must say that I am very pleased with the service and care That I experienced. The energy in this place was very calm and inviting, making me as a patient feel safe and comfortable. The staff was very supportive of Dr. Delaney as she tended to my knee injury while doing a procedure that would usually hurt, but I didn't feel a thing. I would recommend this place to anyone who has suffered a severe or mild physical injury that needs rehabilitation. This is the place to get you back on your feet on the road to recovery. Hopefully I won't have to go back there for medical attention, but if I need to in the future, this is the place for me. Dig it!! read more

I hurt my back in a snowboarding accident when I was 18 by doing 2 and a half back flips (word of advice, never do "half" a back flip), and landing flat on my back after falling 25 feet out of the air. The pain was not immediate and only started to show up a few years after, but it steadily grew. It was untouched by normal pain meds, NSAID's, and things like Lyrica or Gabapentin only helped a little. The 2 other doctors I saw before Dr. DeLaney only wanted to pump me full of NSAID's, muscle relaxers, and Lyrica despite the fact it wasn't enough. After being very discouraged at no one seeming to be able to treat the pain I took matters into my own hands. I started researching stronger ways to manage the pain. I knew Percocet worked without making me all loopy and itchy (like Vicodin does to me) and I also knew that no one would prescribe that to me with no signs of injury showing up in X rays or MRI's, but I was in so much pain that I needed someone to take a chance on me and treat me to the level I needed to make the pain stop. A friend of mine who was a phlebotomist at John Muir hospital told me about Dr. DeLaney and that she was a chronic pain specialist. I decided I would give her a chance and when I went in, after a lot of questions and examining me, she asked if anything did work for the pain. I sheepishly said that I knew Percocet worked (a little embarrassed that I had to take something so strong and that I couldn't just "tough it out", male pride and all). She told me that as a short term pain med it was not a good option and she tried something else that was of similar strength. This was the first time someone was willing to help me like that. The thing she tried, I can't recall it's name now, didn't work either but she was willing to try other things. We finally settled on a med called buprenorphine (a semi synthetic opiate partial agonist, very safe) and it's been working SOOOOO well, and without making me feel loopy or giving me a strong artificial sense of "well being". Being put on those meds allowed me to do things like go back to the gym, take up hiking/backpacking again, and even start getting chiropractic work done at "Stay Active Chiropractic" (who I highly recommend). Now, 2 years later, I am weening off the meds and my issue that turned out to be an unaligned pelvis (likely caused by the fall) has been straightened out by my chiropractor, Stella. But none of this would have been possible without Dr. DeLaney first taking me seriously and working with me and not giving up, even after the first 2 things didn't work. I am absolutely baffled by any negative reviews for Dr. Delaney. If you are at the point when you are seeing a pain management doctor you need to understand that another doctor has deemed your condition to most likely never go away and now you need to find a a way to manage the pain, hence the term pain management doctor....pain management is not a magic bullet. It takes a lot of trial and error to find what works. Dr. Delaney and staff have been absolutely awesome in trying to help me get my chronic low back and sciatic pain under control. Dr. Delaney is very professional and she's not going to aww baby you. That's not her job. Call you mom for that (I do). Her job is to help find a way to get you back to living life to the level that you feel comfortable at. I'm so happy I have found Dr. Delaney and appreciate her professionalism and expertise and true desire to help me. read more

I can't speak for other patients, but my experience with Dr. Delaney was the worst round of treatment I've experienced from any medical professional. I have a chronic spinal injury from improperly lifting a box of books, lame I know, but the pain is off the charts. The medical diagnosis is facet syndrome, pain, shocks, warm explosions down the leg, weakness, etc. I picked her because she went to Hopkins, where I did undergrad, but that was a mistake. On my first visit, she prescribed something that would have killed me if I took it, due to a mix with other medications I take. I should have stopped right there... Once we nailed down what exactly I had, and that is the only thing I can give her any credit for, she became insistent on radio wave nerve demyelination, and proceeded to give me diagnostic injections. She would consider no alternative course, no medication option, only the injections. She wouldn't fax a simple form to my insurance company to get Lyrica covered ($800/month),the only medication that actually turns down the volume on my pain. I had to have an insurance advocate from work compel them to submit it. and viola, It was covered in a few days after that... I don't get the impression she cares much about her patients She mentioned multiple times about needing 3 positive diagnostics before insurance would pay for the radiowave demyelination. She didn't even care that I didn't want that level of invasive procedure at 36 years old. I got the feeling she wanted to get paid for performing a procedure that you need to have multiple times a year, cause me an enormous amount of pain, and laugh all the way to the bank. If you actually have chronic pain, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere, this place is borderline sadistic. read more

This doctor promised me a prescription within 2 days and I never heard back from her. It's now been over a week. If she was unable to prescribe for some reason, she should have called me to discuss the problem and offer another alternative for managing my pain. I contacted the office several times and was unable to get any information as to what went wrong. Chronic pain needs to be treated immediately in all patients suffering. Such long waits with no explanations are unacceptable. read more

Since my last review, I've seen a new pain mgmt MD & a PT who both did comprehensive exams on me (an hour each) before beginning any treatment. Both independently said the exam showed symptoms were coming from my cervical spine, not a muscle strain. After all the below hell I went through from atypical reactions to shots from Dr. Delaney - I come to find out I didn't even need that treatment she was providing. If she'd done a real exam on me to begin with to correctly diagnose me, instead of rushing through it, I never would've been in this situation. She diagnosed both my condition AND my reaction incorrectly. Less than one week into treatment for the CORRECT condition and I'm already improving. Sometimes you don't realize how truly truly terrible the MD you were previously seeing was all around until you see someone great. read more

I suffer from a debilitating nerve disorder and was referred to Balanced Pain management by my neurologists office. After a very nice hour long conversation with the staff and the doctor I was left with being told they don't know what to do. No referral, no suggestions, nothing. I wasn't expecting miracles but to spend that amount of time with a patient and then just tell them to leave left me feeling very underwhelmed to say the least. I had to pay a co pay just to be told that I wasted my time by coming here basically. I felt like the doctor took my money and thats all she was interested in. I would not recommend this doctor unless you have a simple pain problem. read more

It all started when my clumsy self tripped and fell, using my shoulder and left side to break my fall (so clever!). After gathering myself, the pain in my upper left arm, no exaggeration, was excruciating. Upon recommendation, I visited Dr. DeLaney's office to see if anything could be done to "fix" me (the pain I felt prevented me from swinging a golf club at all, so I knew it was serious). From the outset, Dr. DeLaney and her staff couldn't have been more professional, helpful and gracious. Dr. DeLaney examined me in a very thorough manner, and came to the conclusion that what is called a Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) procedure, with time, would have my arm good as new again. I was informed that, due to the damage done, I most likely would need more than one PRP treatment, but coupled with time, I could expect a full recovery. Dr. DeLaney was absolutely correct in her assessment of my situation, and what needed to be done to bring me back to full strength. I visited her practice for two PRP procedures, and on both occasions Dr. DeLaney and her staff put me totally at ease, explaining in detail every step of the way what they were doing and why they were doing it as they worked through the procedure. In a layman's nutshell, the PRP procedure involves drawing blood from the affected area, treating the blood, and then replacing it. All the whilst, I could see the affected area of my arm on the monitor, and when the treated blood was injected, I could see and feel an immediate relief from pain. It was quite amazing. Following the two PRP procedures, and with a little patience and time, my arm recovered its full strength, good as new. My 300 yard drives are as wayward as ever, but I have no hesitation whatsoever in swinging out of my boots again. I can't thank Dr DeLaney and her team enough for the brilliant job they did in bringing my arm back to full strength again, and for their thoughtful caring manner throughout the treatment and recovery process. I have been a patient of Dr. DeLaney for several years during which time she has administered epidural cortisone as treatment for my sciatic pain. I am a physician who had had the same therapy previously by two practitioners. Both as a patient and a physician I have nothing short of the highest praise for Dr. DeLaney's expertise. Four weeks ago, I fell. I felt like my back was broken! Two weeks went by with no diagnosis. I was in a great amount of pain. Finally an MRI was taken and it indicated that my Lumbar 1 was fractured. Fortunately at that time, I was pointed in the direction of Dr. Delaney's office. One week later, she performed a Kyphoplasty treatment and I began to feel like a regular person once again! Along with that treatment, Dr. Delaney gave me some injections to help my muscles relax. Today, I have hope and owe this recovery to Dr. Delaney and all of her staff. Her office is lovely, the environment is peaceful and the staff is out standing. I am so grateful that I met Dr. Delaney and her entire staff. read more
