It is a good thing I saved my notes for the review. I HOPE this time it is not removed!! My journey to Dr. Delaney began after struggling several years with low back pain. I absolutely should have taken it more seriously instead of trying to just mask my pain with handfuls of ibuprofen (that part created a whole other gastro issue that I now have to deal with...) But I finally went for diagnostic x-rays and ultimately MRI to see bulging disc. The pain reached a level where some of my activities were affected. My primary doctor prescribed me some pain meds and referred me to see a pain management clinic. When I started looking at the pain clinics in my insurance network, there were a number of locations that were much closer to my house, but they were mostly male doctors. Over the years of seeing doctors, I have become more comfortable seeing women doctors. I have noticed that some (not all) male doctors have been dismissive towards me. Anyway, I saw Dr. Delaney's name came up and started doing some searching about her. Lots of different Google Reviews, Yelp Reviews, and on other websites. Even though she is in Walnut Creek about a 35 minute drive, I wanted to give her a try. My first impression in meeting Dr. Delaney in August of last year is that she was warm and caring, I felt comfortable with her in no time. We went over the symptoms I was having and then talked about the diagnostic tests I'd previously had. She thought I would be most helped with epidural steroid injections and explained the process of how and when they'd be administered. I had a series of three steroid injections over the course of two months last year that lasted at least six months. Yesterday, began the second round of injections. I've seen Dr. Delaney over ten times in the past year and every time I've had an appointment with her she has always been very attentive and listens to everything I have to say and she's honest and direct. She's offered other types of treatments such as medications to deal with my nerve pain that I didn't want to try and she never pushed them on me. I've never had to wait for my appointments. In reading some of the negative Yelp reviews, I wondered if they were seeing the same doctor that I was seeing. She has been wonderful, as has all of her staff. They take care of all my needs and I do appreciate them all. THIS is why I will drive 35 minutes to my appointment with no concern at all, thank you Dr. Delaney!

In my particular scenario, she had no front office staff handling any kind of communication for a 2-week+ period between Christmas and New Years. My medication was a controlled substance for jaw spasms and pain relief that required a refill the day before Christmas (Christmas Eve). Dr. Medynski and her front office staff (one person) was already out for the holidays. During this 2 week period, I called twice a day, emailed, sent messages on Dr. Medynski's internal website, physically drove by the office twice, and in desperation eventually began looking for replacement doctors who could prescribe the needed medication. For this particular medication, the odds are very high of a heart attack if a person stops taking this medication "cold turkey". When Dr. Medynski's one-person front office staff member returned to work on January 3, she informed me Dr. Medynski had the "right" to take a vacation. I'm not disputing that. Dr. Medynski carries a case load of patients who have complicated and complex maxillofacial cranial pain issues. She prescribes serious "controlled substance" medications. Dr. Medynski left me in a state of harm - with no communication for 2+ weeks, and no refills for a critical medication. This was a failure of Dr. Medynski's DUTY OF CARE. This situation was beyond irresponsible - her lack of ability/willingness to pay front office staff during an extended holiday placed me in a very real, very frighting situation. My life was in danger due to the possibility of stopping this medication "cold turkey", running high odds of a heart attack. I took action. I reached out to my personal dentist, Sutter Health, USF, and many others, scrambling to take care of myself to locate a highly niche/specialized doctor (maxillofacial cranial pain specialist), over the holidays no less (!!), who was willing to take care of a human being (me) they had never met before. My personal dentist called her in the early days of this 2 week ordeal, but no return phone call from Dr. Medynski. People will tell you who they are, you just have to believe them.

Over the past several months, communication has been inconsistent and unprofessional. I have had to repeatedly follow up for updates, only to receive vague responses or no resolution at all. A medical clinic should operate with integrity, transparency, and accountability, especially when handling patients' finances. While the staff may have initially appeared helpful, failing to honor a promised refund for this long is unacceptable. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this clinic to carefully review financial policies and documentation before making payments. As far as communication, I am very disappointed with the level of communication and professionalism from this clinic. Since February, I have called on seven different occasions and left multiple voicemails requesting a call back from the manager regarding my unresolved refund issue. While my appointment went well, the standard insurance paper work for a cortisone shot (the most common intervention other than pain meds) was rejected, and no one from the office followed up. There were no follow up notes after my appointment for next steps. My primary seemed very surprised that this routine procedure was denied which makes me suspect that they didn't do the minimal paperwork required. When you call 'the office', you reach someone at the main switchboard who presumably passes on a message which may or may not be returned. In my case, it was not even though I requested that they resubmit the paperwork. Keep in mind that many many people reaching out to a pain management doctor are in excruciating, debilitating pain. When I finally went in, I was barely able to walk and had to lie down during the appointment due to the extreme pain. Currently, I'm repeatedly leaving messages at the switchboard attempting to try to get my cortisone shot months after all medical staff I met with agreed that it was necessary. If you are in an acute, debilitating situation with your pain, I'd recommend you seek someone who runs a more responsive office.
