Most times they give us our Baklavas in just a cardboard box
    Carmen W.

My bf loves this place so we get it quite often. The pistachio Baklawa is quite addicting. I can go days/months without eating this but every time I eat it, it's impossible to just have one. The price for slightly over half a kg is about $20. The most recent time we went here it was $20 for 15 pieces. The lady also wrapped it up nicely for my bf this time and put it in a reusable plastic container . Previously the past few times, the gentlemen who served my bf just gave us a cardboard box. Tip- they typically give you a little more than requested so if you only want x amount , you should clearly let them know you want no more than x amount.

The FRESHEST baklawa in the city. They have a huge variety. The taste isn't overly sugary syrup with perfect ratio of phyllo dough, honey to pistachios and other nuts. I remember when this location first opened I tried the kenfeh and it was delicious! (Was complimentary as it was my first time visiting). Whatever you end up purchasing, you can get it beautifully packaged if you are gifting it.

Baklawa King used to be a go-to for me. However, I am super sensitive to the smell. Whenever I enter the store, there's always a strong smell (probably because of the sweets). I'm not sure what the smell is, but it seems like it could be the sweet syrup or something else, but it's way too strong for my liking and is a big turn off for me to sit and enjoy the experience (which sucks because the décor itself is very classy and nice). I would love to be able to sit and enjoy the food without getting disturbed by the strong smell, but for now I usually just order and leave. I am not a big fan of baklawas because of the amount of butter in them, but my favorite item from Baklawa King are the mamoul and the special (not sure what it's called - but it was amazing, pictured here). It looks like some sort of mango puree with fruits, topped with nuts and treats!

Drive by this place from time to time.. and the place is very pretty.. a mini cafe.. they do have a number system, which I guess they get really busy so they have to keep the line in order. I got an assorted box I choose 16 pieces which came up to $23.00 which for me isnt a bag price.. they charge $32.00 per KG. I dont know the name of all the pastries all I can say is that it is so delicious. It satisfies my craving and 100% for sure I will be going back for more alot more.. and I would recommend this place for anyone who love middle eastern pastries. They are worth every penny. So glad I decided to go in and try it out..

Before I go into the review, I'll mention that I'm not Thee expert on baklava but I've had it over a dozen times while living in Dubai. My wonderful Lebanese, Emirati, and Jordanian friends all took me to places that were their favourites. I know what my tastebuds like and thankfully the baklava I've had there were all delicious. Baklawa King has 2 stores and this one in particular is just off the centre of the busy Square One block. It's a newer strip mall and parking is easy here. Though it's a pain to actually get INTO the parking lot. It's closed off from Eglinton. The store itself is quite fancy... many small chandeliers are hanging from the ceilings while the dining area looks more of an upscale airport lounge. Lots of big lounge seaters mixed in with more tables. The place is clean and bright. The first thing you notice is the stream of people coming in and out. It's popular and the line up is always there. It's a numbering system to be served so make sure you grab your number. The place is busy on both sides of the counter... there were at least 8 people in front of us and I can easily see 6 people behind the counter. Lots of the fast but gentle tones of Arabic are spoken with smiles. It makes me miss Dubai a bit. When you get closer to the service area, you'll see a huge variety of baklava. Thankfully the signs are all clear and tell you what's inside in each. I would be really lost without them. The gentleman helping us asked us how many we'd like and he was ready with a box in hand. Unlike most bakeries, the items are not sold by piece... it's by weight instead. I will also say that the pieces may look tiny... don't be fooled. These are rich in flavour, syrup, and nuts. A 'small' 3 pieces can easily be filling if you just had dinner. What I like is that they boxed up all the day old items and put them discounted at the front. So you know the pieces in the glass enclosure are all fresh. And seeing how many people were just buying HUGE platters, I can see them going through many trays. With just 10 pieces, it only came up to $11. I thought it was reasonable considering it felt over a pound. Borma with Pistachio - This was eye catching... tightly wound strings of dough created a thick crunchy ring around a large centre of vivid green pistachios. Compared to the ones I've had, this one was a bit more crunchier and less tender. I think the syrup really crystallized the crust. I found the centre to be interesting as it didnt have the same flavour. These seem to be salted roasted pistachios. Or at least they deepend the flavour by roasting them and added a throw of salt into the nuts before rolling it up. It was sweet and savoury with a touch of roasted smokiness. Maybe it's a regional thing but I liked the Dubai version more. 3/5 Karabeej Madd - I've never had this before and I think the strong green colour of pistachios made me want to try this. Filled with pistachios and a base of dough... it had a meringue like topping that was heavy with rosewater before dusted with crushed pistachios. I wasn't expecting the soft creamy topping tasting like roses. It wasn't a gentle waft of it... it was like being hit in the head with a bouquet. At best, it was distracting from the nuts. If it was more subtle, I could enjoy this more... I think the artificial rose was too much for me. 3/5 Baklava with Pistachio - Mmmm... this was very close to some of the ones I've had in Dubai. So close! The layers of the pastries were all nicely doused in syrup and the pistachio filling was a large amount to taste the nuttiness of the pistachio. Unlike the borma, the pistachios here werent roasted or salted. So you can taste more of the nut itself. Though I found the making of this quite good since nothing fell apart or dried out, I found the syrup they used too sweet. The ones I've had were more honey or if they did use a sugar syrup, it wasn't as over the top sweet. The strongest flavour is supposed to be the nut with the sweet as chaser. It did have a butter note to it... I normally don't taste that in the ones in Dubai but I enjoyed it in here. 3.5/5 Bakalva with Cashew - This was my favourite and reminded me of the ones in Dubai. The pastry was over filled with crushes cashews and I loved how they didnt salt or add too much sugar to this. The rich nutty note was the strongest flavour and the sweetness was just enough to keep it from tasting like cashew butter. Each flakey layer was soaked just right to get the syrup on your fingers. Making you like every finger tip after you finished your last bite. I will mention this had the strongest butter taste. 4/5 Wardeh with Pistachio - A pretty nest of pastry layers holding large pieces of pistachios. I thought this was really nice visually. Taste wise, it fell to the same concern as the borma. The pistachio pieces were heavily roasted and salted. It was quite distracting from the sweet treat. 3/5

I love baklava, they're always so delicious. I loved all the different options they had here. Being able to try different types at once was great. I love the perfect balance of salty and sweet. These were all really delicious flavours.

This place is the real deal! If you want authentic Lebanese desserts this is he ONLY place to come in the GTA. There is no one else who comes close to the flavours and quality that we as Lebanese are accustomed to! Try the specialty items like Mafrouki and Znood El-Sit they are specialties of the house, you won't be disappointed.

I came here with my parents for coffee and baklava- and boy of boy did they deliver! We got 2 Turkish coffees, 1 cappucino, 5 baklava's for here and 5 to go. Our bill was around $27. The baklava is definitely fresh and well prepared. There is s large variety and are decently priced. The cappuccino was good but the Turkish coffee was not as good as I have had before. I would return for the sweets and skip the coffee.

I asked for 1 piece of Katayef and this is what I got. I was told that this was 1 piece, but cut in 2. Doesn't look like it!!!

***Update: Still love the sweets, customer service needs to be improved!*** I've been here a few times subsequent of their grand opening and at first, I thought they were working out their kinks. However, now they're just disorganised and can be rude, depending on who serves you. I took my friend here on a Saturday, early afternoon, and there was a bit of a line. There was a "take a number" system, as displayed on an electronic board, so we took a number. And they completely bypassed that system and just asked who was next. Completely inconsistent and confusing to the customer. Yesterday, I came in the evening, girl who served me was incredibly rude. I asked if a certain dessert, kept on the back counter, was similar to kenefeh, "No, completely different!" Umm...this is where anyone with a decent demeanor or sense of service would interject the difference between one thing versus another. Nope. I had to ask a follow-up question. I asked her for 1 piece of the Katayef...which, after tasting it, is quite similar to kenefeh BUT there are deep fried vermicelli noodles on top. Cheese is a slightly different texture, but again, very similar. When she packaged it up, there were 2 distinct pieces. I clarified myself and stated that I wanted 1 piece, not 2. And she snapped that it was 1 piece that she cut in 2 pieces. When I came home and took a picture, you can tell that it's not even cut from the same piece. Again, if you're a decent customer service person, you would just remove the extra piece that the customer never asked for! Again, no knock on the actual product, but they need to organise themselves and improve their customer service. Some of the workers are nice, but others are rude, and cashing out takes much longer than it should. Service is surprisingly better, more patient, nicer at their original Dundas Street location.

Knafeh and a cappuccino... So good!

This dessert restaurant is no joke, their menu is so massive it feels like it could rival the Cheesecake Factory's (no exaggeration). While most of it is dedicated to desserts, they do offer food options too, but let's be honest... you come here for the sugar rush. We tried a slice of their Red Velvet Cheesecake, and it was rich, smooth, and everything you want in a dessert. We also ordered a loaded waffle topped with brownies, chocolate chip cookies, ice cream, and whipped cream, basically a dessert lover's dream on a plate. Both desserts were fantastic and definitely lived up to the hype. The staff was friendly and helpful, and even with such a huge menu, they made great recommendations. If you're looking for a fun spot to satisfy your cravings, The D Spot delivers.

I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to, simply because I'm not big on sweets. The cake is light and spongey and absorbs the leche/milk very nicely, and makes the entire cake very moist. Vastly different in texture to other cakes that rely more on cream and icing to balance the sponge cake. I found this cake lighter and a really unique flavour/texture. It's sweet with flavour that has depth (not just by using more sugar/syrup) and the hints of milk, strawberries, cream, etc all mesh really well. Glad to have stumbled across a new fave and I'll definitely be back to try the rest of their offerings.

The texture of the croffles had a crispiness on the outside which made this dessert delightful to take a bite into. We chose the Honeycomb, Tiramisu and White Chocolate Matcha. We're both not into white chocolate but to our surprise, we enjoyed the White Chocolate Matcha flavour as well. The matcha's earthiness really complemented the touch of sweetness of the white chocolate. The cream on top of the croffle was also rich and smooth. The ice cream was a good addition.
