Oooh yessss!! the reviews are true...by far the best macarons I have ever tasted. I Never really got into this little delicacy until Bakeshop rocked my world! The shop also has a variety of cupcakes, puddings, creme pies, and ice cream sandwiches...all of which appeared aesthetically pleasing to these brown eyes...and other people were eagerly buying them up too. FYI..the half dozen cupcakes I purchased, and brought to work, were hastily eaten up by my nurses..I almost lost a finger in all the commotion! This place just oozes down to earth vibes. Even a random guy offered me a taste of his chocolate pudding after I happen to ask him to pass me a napkin...I love random acts of kindness, especially when it involves food ;) And yes, I took a spoonful of ole boy's pudding to-go.. thank you sir! It's been a minute since I last visited Bakeshop but it's back in my rotation since my pregnancy sweet tooth has never gone away! What I love most about Bakeshop is the quirky neighborhood feel that shines through as soon as you walk through the door. Lining the walls is a chart of all shop worker's astrological signs and heights as well as a giant map featuring customers all around the world sporting Bakeshop merch. Tunes are always on point and this small but homey shop is welcoming enough to grab a seat and enjoy some sugar with a loved one. They sell locally roasted Vigilante coffee and their cookie game is insane (I'm partial to the Brookie but you can't go wrong with anything on their menu). Birthday cakes are reasonably priced and they offer gluten-free options as well as purple taro flavored cakes as well! Even better they are expanding to a second location in Falls Church in the not so distant future. I'm always happy to support this locally-owned shop! read more

Such a cute little bakery. I'm gluten free so was happy to find several options. There were maybe five different gf macaron options- I ended up having the pistachio and taro and they were tasty. I also had the vegan/gf chia bar and it was smooth and comforting, wouldn't be able to tell its gf/df. Would like to come back to try more - they have a wide variety of cupcakes and cookies too, as well as several coffee drinks including Vietnamese coffee. All I can say is Bakeshop makes my mouth water. Every baked good in the store looks enticing and I want to try it all. However the shining star, without a question of a doubt, goes to the macwiches. Seriously, a macaroon ice cream sandwich!? All I can say is it was love at first and it tastes like pure bliss and happiness. If you love macaroons just as much as I do, trust me this will make your day. The staff recommended to leave the machwich out for 5 mins so the macaroon can soften, then enjoy! I would give this place 10 stars if I could. My daughter is allergic to dairy and eggs and every single vegan cupcake I've tried tasted like dirt or gave an odd lingering aftertaste. But not Bakeshop! I couldn't tell the difference between the normal and vegan cupcake and my daughter loved them. The cupcakes were moist and not too sweet. I am a fan of the vegan taro! The desserts are delicious! I ordered 5 different macarons and a pumpkin cupcake. The colors of the macaron are bright and colorful, and the taste is awesome. The outside of the macaron is crisp, while the cream in the center is smooth and not overly sweet. I could eat all the macarons, but would probably end up sugar high. The pumpkin cupcake was delicious! The bread part was soft and delicious, and the flavor was terrific. The cream on the cupcake wasn't too sweet, and it blended well together. Overall, this dessert spot is terrific and I will definitely try their ice cream sandwich next time. This place is pricey for what you get - at least in the birthday cake department. Not sure if my borderline experience will have me coming back to try anything else. The cake was pretty good but nothing outstanding, and for the amount ($$$) you pay for a NON-custom cake, I expect to feel beyond satisfied by flavor! It was aesthetically pleasing but tasted like something I could've easily made myself. For those who feel good about earning points as a customer, their rewards system left me feeling deceived - usually you get points for the amount SPENT, however, when I logged in, the reflected points reflected a pre-tax amount?? what in the world?.... I like to get the most bang for my buck. That combined with being a sucker for a points rewards program usually has me buying what you're selling on repeat. I've seen many places interchange the names which confuses me even more!! Macarons originated in France and consists of two meringue-based biscuits and a sweet ganache. Macaroons consists of a shredded coconut and egg mixture which is baked into a soft cookie. I recently learned from a French-trained pastry chef that in France, Macarons are called "French Macaroons"!!?? How confusing!!! Ugh. I love Macarons!! I despise macaroons. ---------- What first drew me to Bakeshop was the colorful and whimsical flavors that past through my IG feed. I told myself, "Self. It can't be that great!? We have been sorely disappointed many times by the IG food photos!!" So I did something I really regret. I didn't even try to get to Bakeshop at all. Even though we go to Arlington almost daily?! It looked so beautiful and festive and YUMMY!! I salivated for days as she DM'd me to tell me how much she really enjoyed her latest haul. I knew I had to try it. Call me whatever you want, I love pretty food!! But I love food that is delicious even more. So after getting the glowing review, I dragged the crew to go get us some!! I couldn't make up my mind... oh wait... who am I kidding?! Everyone who knows me knows I just order everything... and then some. Haha I seem to have a reputation for doing that sometimes... I ordered 24 Macarons. They came in 2 pretty little sleeves. Let's just say those sleeves didn't last but 2 minutes after arriving home!! Eating 6 Macarons for breakfast for 4 days was probably a bad idea... but a delicious bad idea. :) I've had many a macaron in my lifetime and what I look for in a great macaron is simple... but difficult to execute. Color and even flavoring can be done with some experience. But it's the execution of the biscuit that ultimately makes the difference. Bakeshop's Macarons were perfect!! The biscuit was crispy enough to feel an ever so slight transition in texture, chewy enough to feel a light pleasant massaging of the gums, but not crispy to the point where it made a crunching sound. The biscuit is quite light and airy. *The biscuits slowly crumbled at the shear strength of my jaws!! Haha just kidding.* The next layer (filling) was immensely sweet and creamy and it instantly reminded me of licking the filling of those well known cookie sandwiches as a kid! That luscious, buttery, creamy filling was heavenly!!! An adult version of an Oreo... Each macaron did have its own unique flavor but I'll admit, after eating 6 in a row, the flavors did tend to blend... The final layer (biscuit) had the same texture and flavor as the first, just reversed. In that 1 second it took me to bite into this little macaron, I had flashbacks of colorful biscuits and cookies and filling and sprinkles. My brain was in tizzy. So many different flavors, textures, and sensations at once was overwhelming!! I had to remember to breathe!! I'm so happy I finally caved in and got these Macarons. They were just what I needed. My favorite macaron from this first visit is the bright blue macaron with sprinkles (bottom left of the screen). I can't remember the flavor but the contrast in textures won me over. :) I mean cmon, who doesn't love crunching on little candied colorful balls??... Mmmmmmm... Macarons!!! ---------- Needless to say, I'll be back to the Bakeshop very soon for another 12 or maybe more!! The flavors do change and rotate which is always fun to see what the next flavor will be. My team sent me a congratulations cake from here and it was absolutely delicious and the cute pink box and tag are totally instagram worthy. Red velvet - I thought the cake could have been more bitter and the cream cheese frosting could have been more salty/buttery. Okay up front full disclosure I have only had their ice cream cookie sandwich from this place but that alone is enough for a five star review. Their baked goods could be made with 30% recycled cardboard and I would still give it five stars. Take that! Okay joking aside, do yourself a favor and get an ice cream sandwich. They are in the freezer by the door. The packaging doesn't look like much and you could practically overlook them but that would be quite a mistake. Wow! That's kind of all I can say about this place but because I have character requirements, I will elaborate. Have always heard really good things about this place but I hardly ever find myself in Arlington these days, so I hadn't gotten to check it out until recently. We had dinner at a nearby restaurant last week and it was conveniently located so close to Bakeshop! We were in the mood for cookies, so we ordered the brookie and a ginger snap Whoopie pie. I kid you not when I say these could possibly be some of the best cookies I've ever had. They were so soft, so well baked and SO delicious. The brookie had chunks of chocolate inside and the gingersnap had a solid ginger taste without being overpowering. The service was really quick and friendly, which makes sense because it's a bakery but I definitely was very pleased with my decision to come here. We were really excited to try this bakery, but were a little disappointed when we took our first bite :( We came later in the day (around 8:30PM) and the cupcakes were a little stale. We got one cookie dough and one vanilla salted caramel. The cookie dough cupcake was interesting - it's frosting was like actual cookie dough! The vanilla salted caramel, although stale, was nice...but the salted caramel tones did not come out. It tasted more like plain vanilla. Obsessed is an UNDERSTATEMENT to how I feel about the cake I got from here. I walked in (3 customers at a time right now) and the smell was to die for. They have cookies, cupcakes and specialty sweets ready all day for pick up. I got a 'brookie' and it was perfect. Melt-in-your-mouth chocolate brownie, it was ooey-gooey and delicious. The real reason I came here was for a cake. I ordered 48 hours in advance and it was ready a few hours early! If you love Oreo you have to get devils food cake with cookies and cream frosting. I was on a 'diet' before my wedding so the day after, I ate about 10 servings-I couldn't stop myself, it was SO good!!!! The Oreos on the outside were crunchy and real Oreos!! I came here on 9/18/22 (Sunday) afternoon with a friend. She recommended the cakes and mentioned her office always gets cakes from Bakeshop for special occasions. My friend and I got a slice of taro cake ($7 per cake slice), and a slice of key lime pie ($6.50 per pie slice). I thoroughly enjoyed both and only wish the slices were bigger because I could've eaten an entire cake/pie by myself. The taro cake was moist and had just the right amount of taro flavor. I find the taro flavor isn't strong enough at most bakeries, and the cake texture can either be dry/crumbly or rubbery. But this cake was perfect. The buttercream frosting was also very light and not overly sweet. I liked that the layers of buttercream weren't too thick so it wasn't overpowering. The key lime pie was also delicious. The key lime custard filling was light, smooth and creamy, like biting into a cloud. The whipped cream on top was the same thickness as the key lime filling, but again was just right because it was so airy. Overall the pie had the perfect ratio of tartness to sweetness. I didn't get a chance to try their other baked goods but they also have macarons, cookies, and cupcakes. Street parking is free on weekends in downtown Arlington but can be difficult to find because it's a pretty popular area. Luckily I was able to find parking in a neighborhood about a 7 min walk away. :) Will definitely be coming back! read more

Freaking amazing!!! I am a Bakeshop fan for life!!! In search of a fantastic bakery to use for my Quarantine edition of my birthday and Bakeshop did not disappoint!!! The cake was super moist and the buttercream icing was divine even after being refrigerated most of the day until is was cut later on in the evening. Heed the advise of taking the cake out about 30 min prior consumption and just enjoy it with every bite. I think my cake lasted all of two days and it even turn a non red velvet cake lover into an extreme fan! Now that is a good cake!!! Found Bakeshop with its amazing reviews on yelp. The display of baked goods inside a very cute and adorable shop made me very excited and giddy. I settled on three items: 1. Taro cupcake - the cupcake was smallish and didn't taste much like taro, which was disappointing. The purple frosting was cute but it didn't have any taro taste. 2. Cookies and cream macaron - this was by far my favorite item and I would come back for the macarons. I would recommend the macarons and only the macarons. The cookie shell was light, fluffy, and chewy at the same time and it was not overwhelming sweet. 3. Browned butter chocolate chip cookie - you can't go wrong with a chocolate chip cookie, right? Especially with a name like browned butter cookie. The size was big; however, the cookie was devoid of taste. There were 5 ppl working: one woman on the phone at the register, one woman behind her doing something on an iPad, one woman who was at the fridge right in the entrance, and two women in the open kitchen area. But to have the cookies be real baked cookies (not like a 711 cookie) that are ABSOLUTELY delicious is a 5 star dream come true. I got three because treat yo self and all were delicious. I stop by Bakeshop just about every time I find myself in Clarendon, and it's always SO HARD deciding what to get. Everything that Bakeshop does, they do very well. One time I even caved and got the Vietnamese iced coffee, which was delicious and worth it (I am lactose intolerant). I ordered a variety of treats- my favorite included the flourless walnut brownie, very rich with great flavor and added nuttiness (also available without nuts), double chocolate cupcake was very decadent, peach and cherry blossom macaroons were awesome! These macaroons have a great amount of filling unlike several other macaroons I've tried. My puppy enjoyed the dog treats!!!! I will be putting in extra miles for those chipwiches, I tell ya! These humongous ice cream sandwiches come in various flavors (e.g. java chip, strawberry shortcake, chocolate chip). The fillings are very creamy but maintains that perfect viscous consistency. The sandwiches are thick soft cookies, with chunks of chips (the java chip one had chunks that tasted like butterscotch).
