Good was horrible service was great next time I'll follow my first mind and order breakfast

We walked in at 7:03 am on a Monday and there was friendly staff waiting to greet us. Already three other tables and they just opened so I knew that was a good sign. Treated myself to a hot chocolate since it was chilly that morning and it was truly the best I've ever had. Definitely made from scratch with whipped cream that was out of this world. I would go back just for this drink. I ordered the Suburban since that's my go to breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, dutch potatoes, and toast. Didn't know what dutch potatoes were but figured I'd try something new. It was just like a dish my mom made for me when i was a kid so I was in nostalgic heaven. Cheesy and creamy with a hint of onion. Definitely splurge on those! I had picked this place since they served my husband's favorite - chicken fried chicken with gravy. He loved this plus the over easy eggs, toast, cheese grits, and sausage he ordered. I'm definitely a picky grit connoisseur and these were fantastic with cheese oozing throughout. We didn't leave much on our plates and can't wait to go back. I'd give this place more than 5 stars if that was possible. read more

Stopped in after touring the town and got lunch. I expected the food to be better, but I was a bit disappointed. I liked the caesar salad but there was far too much dressing on it which just overpowered the salad. I also got a side of mac and cheese that I was really excited about, however it was clearly reheated because it was a tad dry, and lacking in flavor. The service was great though and the rolls they put at the table are dangerously delicious. They seem to do breakfast better than lunch so I'd recommend getting something from the left side of the menu instead. read more

We were looking for a place to enjoy a late breakfast and followed yelp recommendations to Bakers Kitchen and we are so glad we did! Arrived close to lunch time on a Saturday and were seated immediately. Our wait staff, Sheka, could not have been any friendlier or helpful. I was so impressed that she noticed our table had a slight wobble and immediately got the shims in the right place to correct it. We had one of the traditional breakfasts with pancakes and delicious butter syrup, Cheesy Dutch potatoes, sausage and eggs; and a chicken salad plate with collards and sweet potato fries. Everything arrived promptly and was exactly what we wanted. Sheka was fabulous by being friendly and attentive without hovering. She was great! We look forward to returning! read more

My first time going here as I never knew it was here. Great service from the time you walk into the door. Friendly people and the server was outstanding. This is our "first day" stop whenever we visit family in New Bern. Friends coming with us? Great, we'll drag them along. Alone? Perfect, we'll have a leisurely brunch. I've never had anyone unhappy about the stop! Their sweets are perfection, and the breakfast exactly what you expect from North Carolina breakfast: dense, soft biscuits, fluffy eggs, and filling chicken and waffles. Oh and always get the Dutch potatoes. Are they healthy? I'm guessing no. Are they amazing? Yup. Staff is friendly and they get you in and out without making you feel rushed. We have been here several times and the foods been great.. this time the eggs were so under cooked the whites were clear and running off the plate. The server was outstanding, he continuously checked on everything and ensured drinks were full and if anything was needed. I mentioned it to the waiter and he offered to replace the eggs and for a free pastry. If I lived in New Bern I would weigh 400 pounds from eating here. We only had breakfast, but it was truly yummy. And breakfast, to be such a simple meal, often ISNT. I ordered 2 eggs with bacon that came with a split and grilled cinnamon roll. Delish. Eggs were cooked perfectly, and the bacon was sweetly crisp. Yum. Yum. Yum. Everyone agreed. We grabbed some cookies to an afternoon snack and what a treat for .99c. There are also pies and cakes....just couldn't work them into our schedule. Really wish we could've done lunch, oh well, next time....because there WILL be a next time! read more

After a few months of hearing about it, I had to find out what the hype was about. I checked out Bakers Kitchen for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. I was waiting for my Grandma to walk out of the kitchen to ask me how everything tastes. As for their lunch, my food was clearly microwaved, had hot & cold spots and just didn't blow me away. Delicious breakfast choices including great coffee. Their baked goods section are a wonderful place to stop on your way out or even if passing by while exploring the town. The service is always first class from the time you walk in to the time you check out. I would say bring a sweater as it's usually chilly in the restaurant. I got there at 9:30 am on a Monday! All I can say is wow this place was slammed with people. I went in and placed a to go order and ran around the corner to the ATM. Walking past the kitchen window at the end of my visit to this New Bern stalwart, I heard a commotion. Apparently two young male employees had decided that their bickering was more important than their employer's reputation. "Do your own sh*t!" one of them yelled, and stormed past me. It was a discordant note in a visit that was otherwise filled with friendly service and comforting food. About the food: the flavors are big (SALT! BUTTER! SWEET!) but that's rarely a bad thing (and its what you came for anyway, right?) And despite a full house (the whole town seems to meet here for weekend brunch) our meals came quickly. The best thing I ate was a ginger molasses cookie my wife bought on the way out--it melted in my mouth so effortlessly I almost forgot the kitchen window tiff. read more

What a great find! If you anywhere New Been, NC you have to stop at the Bakers Kitchen. The muffins, pastries and baked goods look amazing. What a nice experience! I really appreciated the mobile sign up for the waitlist that enabled us to be seated almost immediately upon arrival (as estimated online)! I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken fried steak (perhaps the best I've had)! I also had the pleasure of trying the chicken and waffles and found them to be amazing too! Loved the butter syrup that complimented both the chicken and waffles sooo well! The ambiance was great and allowed us to enjoy our meal and company. The service was really good too! Check this place out and you will be delighted! It's also close enough to the Riverwalk/Union Point Park that you can enjoy a beautiful walk after your meal. It made for a memorable day! read more

I tried this place for lunch previously and didn't much care for it but figured they're really more of a breakfast place so I thought I'd give them another shot. I won't be giving them a third. I ordered the sausage/biscuits with the Suburban (two eggs, sausage links, and Baker's Durch potatoes) with coffee and milk. My order took quite a while to come and then it was cold - probably my biggest restaurant pet peave of all. While I waited, I saw they had wifi so I asked for the password. They said they don't gove that out. They should probably stop broadcasting the ssid name if that's the case. The waiter kept saying he'd bring more coffee but he never did. The biscuits and gravy were inedible. WAAY too much salt and didn't have much other flavor. The sausage wasn't very good and the potato/cheese dutch thing wasn't very good either. Also, I had to remind the waiter that I had ordered milk, but I didn't see him until I was halfway done with my meal. I did like the toast, so there's that. read more

We went in after hearing a ton of great reviews from friends. The staff was extremely friendly, the atmosphere is cute, the food was good, yet nothing out of this world. I really loved the Mac and cheese. Everything was really great until a Cockroach decided to join us at our table at the end of our meal. Nice clean environment. Servers and hostesses are super friendly and kind. The menu was out dated and the waitress didn't mention the changes. We ordered the cucumber and tomato salad but we were told after we order they changed the recipe and omitted the tomatoes. Also I ordered the chicken salad because the menu said pecans and grapes were in the recipe but when I received the salad there were no pecans or grapes. Entered the restaurant a little after 8am on a Wednesday to observe hardly any customers. Took about 20 minutes after being seated to get our coffee, another 10 minutes after that to have our order taken which consisted of two bacon and cheese omelets and that's it. Another 20 minutes go by with no coffee refills and when the eggs came, no bacon and they tasted like the generic food club version of egg beaters as well! No wait staff to rectify the no-bacon and of coarse it was indicated and charged to our bill. Well...first and last visit here....won't be back!!! $24.00 for 2 omelettes and coffee?? That's a lotta generic egg beaters cartons I could have bought myself at Walmart! GO ELSEWHERE !! read more
