I have lived in Williamsburg for 10 years and thus been going to Bakeri for a very long time, in fact Bakeri is not only one of my favorite Bakerys in NYC but also in the world (I am from the UK originally ). The food and aesthetic are trully special here. However, I have always struggled with the really unpleasant attitude that seems to be a theme amongst the staff that work here and after an unsavory phone call I had the other day,I just felt as though enough was enough! The lady who picked up the phone was beyond unpleasant and quite frankly it has really put me off going back. Baked goods are my weakness and Bakeri has piles of delicious ones on display at all times to tempt you. I went the sweet route when I was there, with one of their gooey oatmeal raison chocolate chip cookies, but they also had some amazing-looking pizza focaccia type things that would be an incredible snack for those who are looking for something savory. They also have coffee and tea options to wash down all of those delicious carbs so don't fret. I went toward closing time and I could tell the ladies behind the counter were a little over it and therefore not the friendliest, but they did give their cookie recs when I asked for them. That particular part of Wythe is a bit empty in terms of coffee/snacky type businesses so I'm very glad to know about this place and will definitely be back. read more

I love their chocolate, hazelnut & rosemary cookie with salt. It's gooey in the middle with melted chocolate and it has whole hazelnuts throughout. Also, Bakeri has skinny French baguettes that are perfect for sandwiches as well as focaccia plus other bread. And, of course they have many other cookies, pastries, and some sandwiches wrapped in paper that they sell at the counter. My fav is the one with gruyere, arugula and tomato jam on a focaccia. Came to Bakeri as we knew we had a long food day ahead of us so wanted to keep it light for breakfast. We got a ham and cheese croissant and a chocolate croissant. Both croissants were flaky, fluffy, buttery and absolutely delicious. We also tried their rosemary chocolate chip cooked and cardamom chocolate chip cookie. Both cookies were soft and had interesting taste to them, but still good nonetheless. The only negative I'll say is that there is not a lot of room for seating, we were very cramped sitting almost on top of one another, so I would suggest taking the food to go. read more

I came to this place simply based on reviews and had a really crappy experience! I live on the UES and wanted to find a cool spot to catch up with a friend who was visiting NYC from West Africa and staying in Brooklyn. We arrived at 9:30am on a Saturday (5/20/17), and there were several open tables. We stood by the door for 5 minutes waiting for someone to seat us, and when nobody came I walked toward a table. A lady, I'm assuming was the hostess, blew past me and said with a snappy tone, "Wait at the door and I'll seat you in a couple of minutes." I should've known this would be an accurate indicator of how the rest of the experience would go... We were finally seated, and it took another several minutes for our server to come by our table. He showed up to get our drinks and he at least apologized for the delay. We ordered two coffees and, I promise you, it took 5-6 minutes to get drip coffee! I wish I was lying or exaggerating on this time thing, but I'm not and it only gets worse! We ordered our food - so-so French toast I could make myself and their special Mediterranean breakfast, which was good but not great, and slightly overpriced at $18 - and we ate our meals. After breakfast, we were talking and catching up only to have our server keep passively-aggressively coming to "check if we needed anything" i.e. ask us to leave. So instead of leaving, I kept having him refill our waters lol. Mind you, we'd only been seated for about an hour total as it was 10:40 at the time. After the 3rd time around, he finally said to us, "We have lots of people waiting." And when we looked at the door there legit was only 4 people waiting outside, not the "lots of people" he alluded to. This guy had the audacity to rush us out the door AFTER they were slow as hell to seat us and provide service to our table! Bakeri is small, but cozy. Try to go in the early morning when it's less crowded, and the pastries aren't sold out yet. So far my favorites are the apple cider flower, and the chocolate chip cookie with rosemary, hazelnut, sea salt - both are so addicting!!! Apple cider flower is like nothing I've ever had before. It is delicious!! The texture was kinda like a sponge cake, and it had a nice sweetness to it. The cookie is chewy in the middle, but crunchy on the outside, and the Rosemary with the sea salt adds a nice flavor to an ordinary chocolate chip cookie. I always include to buy the cookie & the apple cider flower every time I try something new at Bakeri, it's that good! Also tried the French toast on a Sunday (which they didn't have during the weekdays), and that one was pretty good - fluffy, and moist from a lil bit of syrup, but not overly sweet or soggy which made it enjoyable to eat with your hands. read more

Went this morning in search of coffee and breakfast. Unfortunately the cold brew was super watery tasting, similar to standard bodega coffee. Expected higher quality there. Coffee is good however their attitudes are not . We had 2 coconut macaroons and the German chocolate cake ... macaroons were dreadful .. they were hard and the German chocolate cake tasted awful. The cake was 6 dollars and the macaroons 75 cents each . The service was dreadful it's very ironic considering outside their door is a refugees welcome sign . I asked them for a fork to eat the cake and they said we are closing in 15 minutes a not so subtle hint to get out. I just spent over 10 dollars in the store solely on the refugees welcome sign ... My instinct is to give this place 4-4.5 stars simply because I haven't tried enough things off of the menu but this place brings with it probably one of the best German chocolate experiences of my life. We stumbled upon this place last year while being in the area for some by the pier action and were blown away. We shared a German chocolate slice that was unforgettable. So much so that when we were in the area about to have dinner with friends we thought we might have dessert first. Unfortunately we made it there about ten minutes before closing, so most of the delectables were sold out, but there were two German chocolate cupcakes left. Happily we snatched them up and they are now in running for being the top cupcakes of NYC in my mind. Go. Now. I'm a local and used to be a regular! I used to come here several times a week. This place has so much hype my review probably won't make a difference but here it is: most of the girls that work here are super sweet to me and that may be because I'm a regular. There's a handful of them that are incredibly rude and one guy that is so beyond rude that he's officially scared me away. I will not be coming back, not while he's there. He spoke to me like I was absolute scum. I couldn't even respond as I was so intimidated. I'm a really nice person and when I pay good money and then have to put up with this Williamsburg hipster crap I feel like I just paid someone to intimidate and attack me. This place is tiny, usually crowded, and the waitresses all want to kill you. No, that was not a typo - the waitresses here hate you and want you to die. They would probably poison you if they could. But, thankfully the law prohibits them from doing so, so I'd probably still recommend coming here for a snack. I had a really yummy bread pudding (with like, ricotta and shrooms or something) and a perfectly crunchy chewy oatmeal raisin cookie. It was actually really good. You're lucky if one of the staff gives you a positive tone of voice, a smile means you should play the lottery. Their quality of product is great, everything I've eaten from there has been really well done, but every time I've gone, I can't help but feel almost awkward with the way the staff interacts. I've been plenty of times, so at first, I didn't think much of it since I didn't really pay attention, but the more times I went in, I noticed how nobody ever really smiled. Were we that bad? Besides the staff, which has their good days ,but mostly indifferent attitude, the people who actually have been in there are outrageous. My friend was waiting in line to go to the bathroom- only one is in the building, he turns and looks at another part of their shop, and as the door opens and he turns back around, some random WILD woman smiles and runs in before him. What kind of animal are you, lady? I'm now waiting in the same spot as he did, not to go, but since it was crowded, I stood in the 'bathroom line,' this other woman goes up to the bathroom door, even though she clearly sees me there, and begins to try to open, not just ONCE when she FEELS it's locked, but three times. And then, she waits on the other side, opposite of me, and when he comes out, cuts right into it. Now I didn't have to go, but what if I did? She would have been just like that other weasel. I guess the staff draws in the same kind of crowd of an indifferent, people-intolerant species. read more

Wow. I'm super impressed. Upon entering, I was concerned that all of the baked goods looked a little bit too esoteric for my plebeian palate. Nonetheless, I still couldn't help myself. I selected a zucchini flower, a cinnamon roll, and banana chocolate bread pudding. They were all excellent. The zucchini flower in particular was very different, moist, and flavorful. The hint of blueberry definitely enhanced the flavor. The cinnamon roll was also quite moist and well iced. The bread pudding was a good rendition of bread pudding, which is always great. I took all 3 home and heated them up. This made everything taste even better. I'd definitely return to try other stuff! read more

We woke up in a hotel somewhere in MA with a great feeling from The Sinclair show, but our hearts sank quickly when we realized our only option for breakfast was Dunkin' Donuts. Our Norwegian bass player, Chris Holm, was curious about this "bakery" that all of America "runs on" so we gave him a taste of his first DD experience. Needless to say, it was awful and his coveted black coffee was ruined when he took a sip in the van and discovered that a "regular" coffee means milk and sugar in America. You should've seen his sweet, confused face (poor guy). After an exhausting drive filed with traffic, we finally arrived in Williamsburg to drop off Sondre and pick up some more Merch. I couldn't wait to show Chris a REAL bakery...my favorite one, in fact, and it just so happens to be owned by a Norwegian! BAKERI has norsk classics like skolebrød, but their cakes and cinnamon rolls are actually where it's at. A lot of folks love the cookies and they have some real artisan jams over there, but I still think their brownies and creative cakes are best. (Except for the carret cake, and that's just because they put coconut shavings on top. Much like nuts in my cookies, I feel that all desserts are ruined by that stupid little coconut confetti). AM I RIGHT?! The real reason I love going there is because they usually have delicious salad specials for vegetarians and they make their own chai tea. I love spiced chai lattes, but I'm a snob about those powder mixes so I appreciate any coffee shop that makes their own, and BAKERI makes a great one. Today was no exception to the salad rule...our Tour Manager, Sharif Productions, tried to tell me there was "no time" for BAKERI, but he tells me that every time I wanna do something fun ("no time" to visit Nana, "no time" to stop in Pittsburgh for a run in Frick Park, "no time" to stop in Chicago on our night off ), enough already. Sometimes you just gotta put your salad-lovin' foot down and say, "we'll call in the order Holmes." I think I speak for everyone when I say it was the right move. Sharif, Chris, and I all had the Autumn Salad (arugula, fennel, butternut squash, feta, pecans, quinoa) and it was totally amazing. The squash was "really good, " says Chris. He'd never eaten that before and was happy he did. When asked, "What better place to try butternut squash for the first time than America in Autumn," Chris replied, "Yeah. Probably." Arugula is his favorite leafy green and he doesn't remember the fennel so he feels like that means "it was probably good." Sharif Productions thought "...all the ingredients were really good and it was a pretty brilliant salad." His last visit to Greece left him in awe of the robust flavors contained in feta cheese, so nowadays he has trouble finding feta that compares, but in this case he felt that "it was probably for the best that BAKERI's feta be on the bland side so as not to overpower the flavors in this perfectly balanced salad." From here we begin our 4 day drive to Las Vegas, so we stocked up on a thousand sweets, the Raspberry Jam Bars, the Peanut Butter Brownie Bites, the Magic Bars, the Hazelnut Chocolate Cake, and a Peanut Chocolate Chip Cookie with Sea Salt. Of course I also got a chai latte to go. I can't stress enough how cozy this place is and you should all really take the time to sit down and hang out inside or in the back garden. It's my favorite place to catch up with friends and I even kidnapped Nana from her house in Scotch Plains, NJ (Nananapped?) just to bring her there for a cup of coffee with Sondre (see pic). As always, the Chai was amazing and the peanut butter brownie bites were "weird," says Sharif, "but not bad." He was just surprised by the literal peanut inside when he was excited for the gooey goodness of peanut butter. Well as you already know, I'm not a fan of peanuts in my sweets, but this finely ground PB was really well done in my opinion. Chris and I ate the raspberry bars and I liked mine enough (maybe not my favorite) and Chris thought it was "cool" and "okay." Not the highest praise I've ever heard, but that's because he was more excited for the magic bar. "It was rich, but not too sweet, and I liked the nuts in there," says Chris. The peanut chocolate chip cookie with sea salt is their best cookie in my opinion and I didn't share it with anyone. Sharif and I had the Hazelnut Chocolate cake and Sharif says it was "good, nice and moist, and none of the flavors were too overpowering so overall, a well-balanced cake. I really like Hazelnut, so that's why I wanted that slice, but I didn't really get the full aroma. Perhaps that diminished my ability to taste the Hazelnut, but then again, it's not really an intense nut, so that makes sense." I feel like consistency in a restaurant is extremely difficult and when a place like BAKERI achieves such a feat, it deserves praise. This is like the cutest place. We ordered two cookies that looked amazeballs.... the peanut butter chocolate chip something and the oatmeal chocolate chip something. We were excited. I took one bite of my peanut butter chocolate chip something and I knew within a few seconds it was not good. I spit it out because I didn't want to waste the calories. Boy was it a dry fuck. My partners oatmeal chocolate chip something was a little better.. kind of like an oat bar with chocolate. More of a chore to eat than yummy. What a disappointment. I just can't trust the rest of the stuff here because of these cookies. read more

I was really excited about this place and I'm not sure whether my expectations were set too high. I went in to grab a sandwich for lunch. I ordered one of the specials from the board. I paid and grabbed a set. I waited, and waited, and waited. Good thing I had work with me. It took forever. I was really confused why it took so long to slap some ingredients on a roll. I ordered my sandwich to go, so when I finally got my box, I grabbed it and left. When I got home, I discovered that it was absolutely TINY. The meal I received could probably qualify as an appetizer: 2 tiny pieces of bread, open-faced with some tuna slapped on them in an overly lemony, overly oily dressing. Some arugula leaves were scattered over the top. For $7!!! I'm not claiming to talk about the quality of the bakery items (the tarts and cookies looked delicious) and some over commentors have had good experiences with the bread. If I were ever to be imprudent enough to get a lower back tattoo - which I would never do anyway, but this view was reinforced by the mind-searing image of a chubby old dude with one on the beach in Far Rockaway recently - the tattoo would probably just read in big bold letters "TOO DAMN PICKY." AKA I know what I like. And I certainly know that I like my pastries and baked goods more in the light, buttery French patisserie style. So Margot in Williamsburg with its almond croissant and pain au chocolat is mind-blowingly awesome to me. The light, elegant texture and Last Tango In Paris-levels of butter there send me in to apoplexy. The good kind. So Bakeri, a few minutes away on Wythe, has stiff competition. But I was willing to give them a chance. It is a nice, clean small bakery with a perfect old New York cafe vibe. The staff is friendly, sweet, and non-pretentious. So I could see going there for coffee or to write for a little bit no matter how the food was. And how was the food? Umm... We got three different items - a chocolate chip hazelnut cookie, the apple cider flower roll, and the chocolate roll - a good variety. Yet I ended up taking no more than a bite or two of each. Not because they were super-yucky or anything. They were fine. But they were not made with any finesse. I'm cool with the style being different than what I like, but even with that filter, the food felt a little rudderless. Am I a Bakeri - hater? No way. The place is a-ok. It's just not all that inspired. Not a place to avoid, for sure. But with the siren song of Margo Patisserie only a few short minutes away, I would rather get fat elsewhere. Get out your cash, put on a parka, and stop whining about Bakeri not accepting credit cards or being so small you're forced to stand outside. You think its crowded because the food and pastries suck?! You don't suppose there's so many customers each day that running a credit card and getting a signature every time might make things even tighter inside?? Sure, I've had my share of disinterested, unpleasant servers here (the girls are either highly underpaid or pissed at being asked for a recommendation by every other person when EVERYTHING is CLEARLY DELICIOUS) but I spend all of 2 minutes interacting with them before my face is pleasantly consumed in pastry heaven. I really don't know of a better bakery in NY so far. This must be in the top 3 at least. Flavor combinations are original, recipes are well balanced, the finial product is perfectly baked (nothing has ever been too dry or too moist for my pallet), and the coffee is pretty yum. I won't even get into my favorite cookies, tarts, and croissants- basically just commit to going once a month and try everything that pops up- it's all to die for. I live only one L stop into Manhattan from Bakeri, and I know what you're thinking "Ugh, the L..." But if Williamsburg isn't super convenient for you then suck it up and make it so. I recently stopped here with some friends on a trip to New York. In true Williamsburg judgement, we first mocked the spelling of the name and walked right past...later returning when someone in our party needed to stop in a restroom. After drooling for a few minutes over the overflowing trays of sweets and bread, we finally bought a handful of macaroons and a loaf of Focaccia. After three bites, we purchased 3 more loaves. Basically, this is the best bread ever made of all times in the history of bread. The combination of olive oil, salt, herbs and a little grease made it the ideal snack for our slight hangovers and perfect fuel for the rest of our afternoon. I'd come back one million times, solely to purchase mass quanities of the Focaccia. read more

Not a bad place to stop by for a casual breakfast with a friend. Alongside their bakery to-go menu, they have a small dine-in menu of eggs and other breakfast items. My friend and I ordered 1 eggs provencal and 1 scrambled eggs with trout. Be warned, the eggs provencal takes 30 minutes (and cannot be made dairy-free), so it is best to skip it if you're in a rush. I would like to review the Greenpoint branch of this terrific little establishment, but given that they do not seem to have their own page here yet, I will present my review here. I was recently in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn meeting an important client regarding the impending large-scale development of the Greenpoint waterfront (from which I wish to make a very tidy sum indeed). Upon the conclusion of our meeting, I found myself walking the side streets of this lovely neighborhood in good spirits, humming a pleasant tune to myself and simply enjoying the morning. Then out of the blue I came across this quaint little Bakery called Bakeri! It was right there nestled in with the townhouses! I entered and was immediately struck with the decor, which reminded me of the many neighborhood cafés in Le Marais I used to frequent with my late wife Yvonne in the autumn of '85. Bistro chairs on black and white checked flooring. A fetching oaken display case exhibiting the many sweet and savory offerings. A large, very clean, open air kitchen in which one can view the items being made fresh daily! I looked over the display case with great curiosity and made careful mental notes on what I would be trying first, and second, and third. I was in a mood for something savory, as is my usual preference, so I decided on the tomato and goat cheese galette. I ordered this and a regular sized coffee drink and enjoyed both of them heartily. The galette was impeccably prepared and still retained some of the heat from the cooking process. The texture and flavor of the galette were astounding bordering on astonishing. The coffee was at the least, very serviceable. I returned following my next scheduled meeting in Greenpoint with one thing in mind - consuming with vigor one of their superb galettes. However, when I returned to the lovely display case, I thought it might be wise to sample a different product and so I opted for a lovely looking spiraling pesto topped number that looked tremendously satisfying. This with another coffee beverage and a simple baguette ordered "to go" made me smile with delight as I exited the establishment. On may way back to Hauppauge, nibbling on this wonderful little pastry, I couldn't help but think of my late wife Yvonne, and the lovely time we spent in Paris. As she is my witness, I will return to this wonderful little gem after each and every one of my meetings in Greenpoint until I have tried every last item on offer. We drove over 1.5hrs to check this place out because the reviews were so good for this place and frankly, I do not sense the hype. The atmosphere is nice and reminds me of a hippy-hipsters scenery. I enjoy my personal space, but can appreciate the coziness that the place offers. We ordered an iced coffee and an ice latte ( it was close to 99 degrees outside). The coffee seemed watered down and did not have that rich flavor you would get from a good cup of coffee. The latte was along the same lines.. Nothing to write home to mom about. I can not speak more highly of this place. Hands down my favorite coffeeshop/cafe/bakery in Brooklyn & maybe even Manhattan. My favorite latte for sure. The candy bar (I'm not sure what it is called, but it's essentially a homemade candy bar) is TO DIE FOR. It's salty, sweet, chewy, soft, & perfect with a cup of coffee. Their carrot cake is delicious as well! Also, if you get a large latte they give it to you in a pretty bowl! Idk if anyone's weird like me.. but that is just amazing hahaha. I always make sure to get a large when I dine in! The only negative thing I can think of is while 98% of the employees are really sweet and chill, I have been in there a few times where certain girls aren't as friendly & seem rather annoyed to be serving you. Bakeri is a cute neighborhood spot that I frequent at least once a week. It's quaint and cozy and their pastries and sandwiches are reliably tasty. I haven't had the drinks here except for the ice tea in the summer which was highly addicting. The food, as long as you don't have high expectations, is decent and enjoyable although there's something off (but not in a foul way) about how they make/the taste of their pastries/breads that I haven't been able to pinpoint yet. Maybe they don't use as much butter? Is it the flour? Anyway, Bakeri is very accessible and oddly addicting, in spite of the weird flavor profiles of some of its food items. If you are looking for a cute place to grab lunch or afternoon coffee, Bakeri is definitely your spot. read more
