I'm not sure if I understand the hype for this place. My friends and I were craving for Che so we decided to stop by after dinner around 8:30pm on a Saturday night. Majority of the baked goods were sold out so we just got Che. The consistency of the coconut cream was a bit too diluted for us and didn't seem to have enough creaminess to it. As a big fan of pandan and cassava, I was excited to stumble upon this dessert spot while dining at Phoholic nearby. Being in Little Saigon, I wasn't surprised to find a Vietnamese dessert place, but what really stood out was how easy the ordering process was. I went for the sampler, which included taro, palm sugar, pandan, mung bean and cassava cakes. To my surprise, the taro ended up being my favorite, while my husband loved the palm sugar. I have been wanting to try this place after seeing ads from Facebook. Ever since bambu closed down in the SGV, I've been trying to find a place that served desserts that are just as delicious. I was really excited when I saw this place and decided to try it after having lunch in the area. I ordered the house special dessert drink with no durian and I ordered the sampler to get a piece of each dessert cakes. Then I also checked in on yelp to get a free one too. If you come on a weekend, you have to be a little patient because there's a line out the door and parking is a bit tough in a busy plaza. The dessert drink was good, but IMO, it's not as good as bambu's used to be. The coconut flavor wasn't strong enough and once all the ice melted, the flavor became bland. The good thing is that they do put a lot of the toppings and it's filling. The dessert cakes weren't impressive either. My favorite one was the palm sugar, which was nice and soft. The other textures were all too hard for my liking. There are a few tables inside and a few outside, but it always seems occupied. If you want to hang out with friends, it'll be a bit tough unless you don't mind standing outside. read more

When this place opened I was very skeptical! Because they advertised greatly on their baked goods, which were the palm sugar, cassava, taro, or mung bean flavor. And, I'm not a fan of those much and I dont think they are as much a popular baked desserts for Vietnamese. They also gave out tons of coupons for a free baked goods when they were anticipating their grand opening.. When you go to Da Vien to get your coffee, we were given a coupon each to get free baked dessert when Bake & Che opens. Bake & Che also took over the Churros and ice cream that was there before them. However, fast forward to NOW, they are the second popular Vietnamese dessert place to go to, next to Da Vien. I think it was a completely awesome business move for them to be next to Da Vien, for those do can't do caffeine as dessert, they wander over to Bake & Che and because their che is sooo good, it caught on pretty fast! My favorite favorite thing here is C1, which is I like to call it the mixed combo of Che. I think it is a cross between che Thai and che ba mau and everything in between, but made with fresh ingredients and not canned one, and the sweetness level is also pretty low compared to typical Vietnamese che, that's why the combo is a success!!! I've been so addicted to their yummy C1 that I think this might take over the boba addiction! The C1 also has durian in it.. I"m not sure in what form, because there is no durian meat in there, but you can taste it.. maybe it's a small paste.. but, it's not overwhelming or too much to overpower the whole drink. Overall, I would highly recommend this place. Parking is super tough on the weekends and line is pretty long on the weekend too. The putrid taste of durian is subtle, and I think pale who actually like durian would appreciate it. Really liked the rest of the cakes. Taro is denser but smooth and sweet, mung bean has a fine-grain, mealier texture, and cassava is more like mochi. The Flan Cheesecake is a perfectly creamy texture, that was probably my fave. The Thai Che was great. Loved the longan and all the different colors and textures of tapioca and jelly chunks. This was fun and the cafe is just so cute! The House Special Che Ba Mau (Three Bean Dessert) is worth the long drive from San Diego to OC! This is like the Three Bean Dessert on steroids! In addition to the traditional ingredients, it has taro paste, durian, peanuts, and jelly on top of the already delicious ingredients! This is my new favorite go-to place for Vietnamese desserts. My love for Vietnamese desserts run deep so I needed to stop by Bake & Che to try it out. Unfortunately wasn't craving che at this time but I opted for the 12 pack choose your own baked goods for $18. I realized soon after there was no discount for a larger pack so what I should have done is get three boxes of four pieces each to easily share with others. I tried all of the baked (banh) flavors to figure out which one was my favorite. The mung bean and taro fell short as it was really dense and not chewy as I was hoping. The cassava and durian pandan layer were my two favorites - chewy and not overly sweet. I will say I didn't notice it said "durian pandan" initially so it was a (good) shock for me, but not so much for my husband who does not like durian =D Overall a decent spot but nothing I would rave about or go out of my way for. Located in the same plaza and right next door to Da Vien. I came on a weekday around noon and there was a small crowd of patrons enjoying their treats onsite and some taking out. Came to Bake & Che for dessert after dinner on Saturday and it was CROWDED. A lot of their baked goods were already sold out, which was a bit of a bummer. From what I did get to try, I thought it's a decent Vietnamese dessert place and is also open later which is a bonus. I got the Pandan Grass Jelly and the flavor was standard (coconut milk) and fairly sweet. Also tried their Palm Sugar which was tasty and not too sweet. My husband and our friend got their Durian Pandan Layers, which they said was good. I am personally not a fan of durian, so it did limit my choices for the che I could get since a lot of the ones I wanted to try included durian... Parking is shared with other restaurants in the plaza and does get crowded. Not enough seating for the weekend after-dinner dessert rush. Service was fairly quick even with the crowds. I'm not close to any of the Bake & Che so when I'm in the area I always try to find some Vietnamese desserts to bring back home. The drinks are pretty good and the desserts aren't overly sweet, in a good way. There are many options of sweet desserts to choose from and I recommend giving them all a try as they're all pretty good. The green Thai tea was good and would definitely get that again but then I always get that anywhere I go. The line could get long so plan some time for this. read more

Stopped by for a quick che and a bite towards the end of the night and it was totally worth it. We came when it wasn't busy and still had to wait about 10 minutes or so... so be prepared to hang out for awhile during the rushes. The che was great and the pastry was also very enjoyable. My boyfriend randomly walked into this bakery while I was waiting in line for Da Vien, and I'm SO glad that he did! The Palm Sugar Cake (5/5) was EVERYTHING. It was so good that I wish he bought more! It had light sweetness and the mini cake was tasty! This is a popular item for a reason. The flan (4.5/5) was also good! Came here for desserts because I was craving it. The store is located right in the heartland of Bolsa area nearby the Asian Garden mall area with plenty of parking. It replaced the old churro place. I think the place is cool, for a modern feel and take for traditional Vietnamese che. They have a decent amount of options and a good amount of seating. This place is definitely a great spot to grab dessert with friends or family. I got the deluxe che, which is the 1st one on the menu. It was similar, but a little different than what I'm used to. I think there was a good amount of ingredients inside with a good ratio of the coconut cream. I will say I think $7 is a bit much, especially in Westminster/Garden Grove where there's a lot of good and cheap spots around. During our most recent trip to SoCal, I wanted some light desserts. I found Bake & Che during one of my yelp searches and since I rarely get Vietnamese styled dessert, I decided to get this a try. We got here around 9PM on a Thursday night -- there was no line but they were decently busy. All of their tables were full so we decided to get our desserts to go. We got their Che with grass jelly and pandan (C4), durian pandan layer, cassava, and longan jelly. What I really appreciate is that most of their Che is lactose free. They use a "house milk," which is a blend and it doesn't contain lactose. There are two options on the menu that do contain lactose so if you're lactose intolerant, be sure to pay attention to that. I really enjoyed the Che -- it wasn't too sweet at all. The grass jelly and pandan gave it a refreshing element to it. Definitely would recommend getting their Che. The cassava had a great chewy texture to it and it was very lightly sweet. I can't say I liked it very much -- I think it would be better if it was a bit sweeter. I did not like the longan jelly at all. It didn't have much of a taste to me but that could be because the Che was sweeter. So after having the Che, the jelly naturally will taste like nothing. I love durian and I do like pandan but I'm not sure if I like them together. The durian flavor is there in the layers but it's not very strong. However, it is still enough to cover any pandan flavor that it may have. I think I may like this more if it was pure durian instead. Overall, definitely not bad. It was also recommended by the waiter at the pho restaurant we just ate at. They are located in a busy T&K Supermarket plaza along Bolsa Ave. The shop is small and has some tables inside to enjoy. It also has a restroom for customers. My family and I ordered the Pandan Grass Jelly drink and their Pandan Coconut jelly. The dessert (~$1.50) and drink (~$7) is slightly more expensive than a typical Vietnamese restaurant price, but it's definitely good quality. Here's how I would rank the items that I've tried: 1) Longan aloe vera: so refreshing and light unlike the other desserts 2) House special: I love most of the components, including durian. Not a fan of peanuts, but even with peanuts, it's still pretty good overall. This bakery has it all- great Vietnamese desserts, an inviting atmosphere, and energetic staff. They have ample seating if you'd like to enjoy their treats there, but their cakes and che are also easy to take on the go. We had the banh bo and che suong sa hat luu (C5). Love how cute the banh bo is. We even brought home a few for my parents! The owner was super kind and let us try a different base for the che that she had been experimenting with.
