Thai Tea Custard Bun, $3.25 prior to tax
    Vic C.

Bake A is located in the same plaza as Charlie's Tea, specifically right next door to Naisnow. Because my husband and I were right across from this bakery at Charlie's Tea, we decided to check out this bakery. A small bakery, didn't take long to walk around to see everything. I ended up purchasing: Custard Bread, $2.68 prior to tax- My husband was starting to get really hungry, so he grabbed this bread and ended up eating it in the car. I didn't have any but my husband thought it was okay but not very memorable. Thai Tea Custard Bun, $3.25 prior to tax- I picked this because I have never seen a Thai tea custard filling in any baked breads at any Asian bakeries. The bun itself is very white and pale. And after reading a few other reviews from other fellow Yelp members, I decided to put it in the oven because it was noted that their buns were not baked all the way, which I really hate about some bakeries. I didn't even put an egg wash on the bun and baked it on both sides. Pulling it out of the oven (and allowing for it to cool for a few minutes), it was nice because it was warmed through. But the custard inside was disappointing. I could taste some of the Thai milk tea flavors but it was faint and almost had a light sour taste, as if the custard may be starting to go bad (please note that the heat from my oven most likely did not cause this to happen). ---------------------------- (Total= $6.55 after tax) Overall, I wasn't impressed with this bakery and really don't see myself coming back.

I love soft and fluffy bread, and this new Japanese-inspired bakery has just that! They are located in the Tsuke and Hilton plaza, with parking in the lot and an underground structure. The interior is very clean and spacious, with a variety of unique-flavored breads and pastries. My favorite has been the Japanese milk bread, rose milk bread, and the Japanese tangerine peel red bean bun. The texture of the bread is incredibly soft and fluffy and the flavor of their red bean is not too sweet, which is perfect. The rose milk bread has the subtle taste of rose which I liked. I've also tried their coconut purple rice bun and taro mochi pork floss bread, which flavor-wise was okay, considering the flavors weren't as strong although the texture of the mochi and bread was great. Overall, I would come back for their bread! They also have a display of cakes which looked pretty good.

3.14 (2026)I thought I posted this review, it's been on my drafts. 3/5/26 Pacing myself, this shop is less than 5 minutes walking distance from me, Oh my G-- it smelled so good as soon as I walked in. The smell of freshly baked bread wafted in my direction. It was intoxicating. Got custard, bread, cheese hotdog bun, Japanese tangerine peel, and red bean bun, and lastly, certainly not the least, Japanese coconut purple rice bun-very good- not too sweet, soft & supple. I know I will be a repeat customer for sure. Parking is somewhat limited but there's underground spaces. Lots of shops at this plaza by the Hilton. 3.14. (2026) Today I'm trying the coffee mochi bun.

I came here like 5x just for their butter mochi lol its so good and cheap. Smoking tiger sells $25 for 8. Bake A sell it for $5 for 6! Their bread is also very soft and bouncy. The filling is also generous. Their taro is also REAL (not those sugary paste with food coloring one). So good

Quick and easy service at a small bakery with cute cakes, buns, and breads. It's your typical bakery, with sweet and savory selections, although I thought it was a bit overpriced. I went in the middle of the day, and they were already out of many items.

Lovely and romantic Japanese inspired bakery located in the Hilton Plaza San Gabriel which is at the heart of SGV! It's warm and inviting especially with the soft yellow lighting that caught my eyes. I had to walk right in to be immersed in it all. I was the only customer at the time so it was perfect for all the picture-taking I wanted. Cool! Free above ground and underground parking are available. Above ground space is mighty tight. Be careful driving through and park safely. Lady staff was nice and friendly. I always ask for recommendations especially when it's my first time visit. She was gracious to suggest a few of her go-to(s). Taro Mochi Pork Floss Bread is her Top #1 choice! It is now my Top #1 choice, too. Thank you Miss! I ended up grabbing one of each of these freshly made and beautifully packaged pastries. Prices were reasonable for the quality... averaged about $3+ per pastry. - Taro Mochi Pork Floss Bread (#1 - very tasty bread that's well balanced in sweet and savory all in one!) - Custard Bun (average) - Coffee Mochi Bun (#3 - love the soft and stretchy mochi!) - Butter Black Sesame Crisp (too dry!) - Japanese Coconut Purple Rice Bun (decent) - Coconut Bun (#2 - very yummy that had amazing coconut flavor!) What makes this bakery stands out for me is the softness and bounciness of the bread. It's not overly sweet nor underly bland. Perfect sweetness! Bread was amazingly soft and chewy in a very good way. Highly recommend for all to try! I'm coming back for more of their Taro Mochi Pork Floss Bread and Coconut Bun. I also want to try just their bread and other specialty pastries. Thank you Bake A for stepping up the bakery scene with elevated bread... LOVE IT!

This is a Japanese inspired bakery located in the San Gabriel Hilton shopping plaza. I got the following: 1. Red bean bread with orange peel: 3.5/5 It had good flavor, not too sweet but the texture could have been better - either softer or crunchy. It was neither so the texture really lacked identity. 2. Mango cake: 2.5/5 Too much cream and not enough cake. The cake to cream ration was off. 3. Pork sung bread with green onions: 4.5/5 This was pretty good. Savory. Overall, it was ok. The interior is bright and modern. Service was just ok as well.

This place is absolutely adorable and full of warmth. Thank you so much for taking the time to make me a unique little dog-shaped cake -- it truly made my day and meant a lot to me. Being treated with such care on my birthday made the experience so special and memorable. I really appreciate it

Thai tea bun was not baked all the way.

Saw this place after my massage upstairs so I decided to stop in for some goodies. The place looks cute and has cute decor. Some of the bread flavors were very unique and looked really good, so I bought a bunch to try. While some breads were good, some breads were not. The coconut bread display had some that were good and some breads that were almost burnt - so much that I thought it was a different bread. The worst one was the Thai tea bun. It was terrible. I was most excited about it but when I opened the bag the bread was so soft and white. I cut a small slice of it to try and when I ate it I realized it wasn't baked all the way and tasted weird. The dough was still raw! It did have a little browning underneath so I guess they popped it in the oven for a bit, but when I smelled it and touched it, the bun was still pliable as uncooked dough is. So gross! Im not sure if it's intentional to have a par baked/raw bun (like a take and bake pizza) in the case, but did put it in the fridge and baked it today at 375 degrees for 10 min. It still didn't taste good so I threw it out. With so many other great pastry shops in the area who sell fully baked buns, I probably won't be back here.

    Coffee mochi bun

The flavor combinations looked unique and different from other Asian bakeries but I just picked up the coffee mochi bun because I wanted to try one item first. Surprisingly had a lot of mochi filling, which is good in my opinion! I'm used to not having enough filling but you definitely get a good amount of bites of the soft mochi. The bread was still pretty soft as well for eating it the morning after. Idk if I'll try too many of the other breads but I'd get the coffee mochi bun again and maybe something new next time!

Pork Floss Bun Japanese Purple Rice Bun

I was in the area and saw that this place looked newly opened! I visit Asian bakeries nearly every week to get my bread fix. Bake A's selection was much more unique than I expected - with interesting bread featuring rose petals, lychee, etc. and cute cakes. Ratings for the 3 breads I tried: - Pork Floss Mini Cake: I've tried these at various other bakeries, and Bake A's has the best that I've tried! The sponge cake was extremely soft and the outer pork floss seaweed coating was very delicious. - Japanese Purple Rice Bun: SOO soft and very interesting concept. Sticky purple rice was the filling, which made this bread very substantial. Not sure if I would get this again since it's carbs on carbs. - Chicken Curry Bun: has a crunchy "Tiger" topping that went well with the super soft bun. My bun had NO chicken in the inside! It was all veggies! I ate the whole thing hoping for a shred of chicken - alas, I could not find any. Bake A's cake selection looked super cute with options like 3 in mini cakes, cake boxes, and Swiss rolls. I'll definitely be back to try their cakes! No cash accepted.

Such a cute interior!!! I'm shocked that there's no videos about this place. The inside is so adorable with clean but with cute little details like pastry magnets and Japanese clippings on the wall. My favorite was the coffee mochi bun. Super coffees on the outside with stretchy soft mochi on the inside. I also had the jasmine boba cake. The cream was really milk tea like, so delicious. And crunchy green grapes!!! Also egg tarts are Japanese style not Chinese. Soft and creamy instead of flaky. They use high quality ingredients from Japan!

Overall, not bad. We got the orange peel red bean bun and it was just right in terms of fluffiness and sweetness. For those who prefer sweeter desserts, this might not be for them, but this bun has a stamp of approval from my picky Chinese parents in terms of sweetness. The store is cute, and there's so much variety to choose from. I'll be back for more red bean buns soon!

Every dessert in the case looks like a tiny masterpiece. You can really see the care and detail that went into creating them, which is so impressive. The cafe itself is bright, cute, and has a really nice ambiance. It feels like a perfect little spot for a date, to be honest. A huge practical plus is the parking situation, which is easy with plenty of street spots and a lot nearby. Now, I feel a little weird saying this because the presentation is a full 10/10, but the taste just didn't match up for me. I tried a couple of their most popular items, and while they were okay, they were kind of bland? The flavors weren't as bold or memorable as I was hoping, and some textures were a bit off. It was a bit of a letdown after how stunning everything looked. My experience was just okay, so I'm landing at 3 stars. The staff was nice, the place is charming, and I wouldn't say no to coming back with a friend to try a different pastry and a coffee. But if you're going purely for an incredible flavor experience, you might leave wanting a bit more. It's a feast for the eyes, for sure. I plan to come back to give this one more try.
