Wait started probably around 6pm although there were still empty tables then. They provide garnishes for your water and also provide 4 salsas/accompaniments for your meal. I got the 16 oz ribeye served on hot stones. They cooked it slightly less than what you want, so for my medium rare, they cook it rare. It also comes with chimichurri and molacete(?) which has a more refreshing flavor. They season with rosemary and even light a branch on fire for more aroma. I tried a bite of my friend's filet mignon which was good, but my preferred cut is the ribeye or NY strip. We also shared the papa loca (worth it - so good) and the cauliflower (not as good, but I'm comparing it to a version made by Cuerno, a Mexican steakhouse in NY). I had a glass of the pinot noir and the garzon, and both were good, slightly tannic and 'juicy'.

Three of us ordered prickly pear, margaritas multiple times and the little ones ordered nachos with chicken and nachos with shredded beef and my sister end up ordering grilled jalapeños and the agave nachos which I thought both were very good, but the agave nachos were far better. I ordered the Al Pastor chicken tacos. I loved my lunch. It was pretty good. I thought the refried beans and the rice was actually better than most Mexican restaurants. I really appreciate Crystal for grabbing a fried ice cream for my birthday lunch without having to sing or make a scene. My little nieces enjoyed eating ice cream with their uncle and we had a great memory here at this place. Highly recommend coming out here and if you are definitely sit in crystal's section she's worth it

The food was fantastic, the flavors were on point, and the place was full of energy. There were giveaways like T-shirts, sunglasses, and keychains, though we didn't receive any, which felt a bit selective. We came back on May 12th during happy hour and sat at the bar. Once again, the food was outstanding, and the service was top-notch. Alex and Jason took care of us at the bar, and they made us feel so welcome. We even ordered the entire happy hour menu and left completely satisfied. However, we've also visited several times since, including Father's Day. Unfortunately, our most recent visit wasn't as good. We sat at the bar again, and Edwin served us. My wife ordered her favorite margarita with Tajín on the rim and a shaker presentation, but it took three tries to get it right. Each time, there were errors, and we ended up being charged for one of the incorrect drinks. Service was slower than usual--no refills on my drinks, and we had to keep asking for salsa. It was surprising since the place wasn't even busy. Overall, we still love the food and atmosphere at Moctezuma's, but this last visit was a letdown. After all the great experiences, we're dropping our rating to three stars for now and will explore other options next time.

The dishes we chose were tasty and the plating was nicely done too. We were sold a guacamole appetizer by our friendly and helpful server which was good but probably not worth the $14 that appeared on our final bill - yikes. We will be back for another meal, for sure. There are some interesting things to try on the menu, and again, we liked our initial choices here. Note that La Rioja doesn't have a liquor license, and so you can't get a real margarita here, if that's your thing.

3.5 stars, but not quite 4…read more Pros - decorations are nice, the staff were nice and came across as warm, casual. They had a taco guy set up outside so we got tacos de carnitas, which were very good, and a mix of cabeza meats. The queso tasted good, and the steak marinade was different but good. Husband is hard to please with salsas, but he liked these ones. Horchata was great, but again, the price was exorbitant. Cons - a $6 coke and my husband's tacos being served on a random paper plate...prices are crazy for the area this restaurant is located at. I got the feeling that the restaurant was a fancy cover for a casual taco place, meaning fancy looking but the staff kept calling out to each other, kind of yelling, obviously not caring about the plating, etc. The queso fundido came with a random piece of tripa, which kind of grossed me out, but I understand cross contamination is bound to happen with an outside cooking station. The steak marinade reminded me of a rice/Asian marinade, so while it was good, it didn't quite fit with the Mexican cuisine for me. Also, I kept burping it up 2 days after, so clearly it didn't sit right with me. Husband felt they skimmed on the chorizo sausage, as his plate came with a piece of sausage, not a full one.

My first time here, and through the drive-thru, I ordered Huevos Rancheros and black coffee…read more I have to say, the huevios rancheros were delicious, came with rice, beans, pico-de-gallo, and 2 corn tortillas. There was enough ranchera sauce to balance the meal all the way to the last bite, and the corn tortilla underneath was easily cut by the edge of my plastic spoon. The eggs were perfect, no burnt edges as so often the case with Mexican restaurants. So I have no complaints at all, I could eat this every week. The refried beans were also excellent! The pico-de-gallo was fresh and crunchy. The Spanish rice was typical - cooked rice tinted with tomato puree. I also appreciated the sturdy foam containers they use, it made it easy to eat in my car without spilling. The black coffee was $2.50, the typical net-invoice-escalation price. But it was freshly brewed and tasted better than most. See my picture of the drive-thru menu for accurate pricing. Most entrées are a dollar more than shown on the Yelp menu. But all in all, the food was good enough to bring me back here. - Scott
