Most are exceptional dance teachers. The owners of this location are also very involved and ensure that it is a quality experience and a well-run business. Everyone involved in the business loves dancing and it shows. Students are able to learn any kind of dance they want. Merengue, Salsa, Bachata, Rumba, Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, Swing, and more are all offered. The location for Arthur Murray of Coral Gables is excellent and in downtown Coral Gables. Paid street parking is pretty easy to find. The studio is well decorated and very amendable to having a few or more classes at the same time, plus larger group classes. You might be able to pay less for dance classes elsewhere but you won't receive better coaching or teaching anywhere else. All in all my experience was very positive.

We HIGHLY recommend taking classes at Fred Astaire. My husband and I took lessons with Nikita, one…read moreof their instructors, for our first dance and they helped us to feel confident and relaxed on our wedding day. For one thing, Nikita's experience really shone through. Nikita had stepped in as a new hire because our original instructor had left, and in our FIRST class, Nikita had choreographed 2/3rds of our dance, despite coming in with no context. He didn't know the lyrics for the song we had chosen (due to a slight language barrier), but Nikita captured the essence of the song and the drama of our love story EXPERTLY. We applaud Fred Astaire for hiring instructors who are skilled enough to step in for situations like ours and who have an instinct for dance. Additionally, Nikita was very professional. He did not waste any time with idle chit-chat or small talk during our lessons. He used all 50 minutes of our lessons to teach us the choreography, drill moves through repetition, and correct our mistakes. He was always honest with us about how we could improve, and so we feel that we really got our money's worth with Nikita. We really enjoyed our experience with Fred Astaire and we are hoping to go back in the future :)

Dance Awakening is a Salsa, Bachata, and Zouk dance studio. I've tried numerous dance studios…read morearound Miami. They all teach a lot of the same things, but every studio is a little different. For example, some might emphasize performing for an audience, others might spend a little time each week on hitting the breaks in the music, or teaching as many steps as possible. I like several studios, but Dance Awakening feels like home to me. Sergio's teaching emphasizes connecting with your partner. He teaches a lot of the details in partnership that go beyond just communicating what step to do, but rather how to make the dance feel very good for your partner which in turn leads to the dance feeling very good for you too. There are several good dance studios and people should try a few to find the one that suits them best.

After being referred to Dance Awakening by several friends in the Latin dance community, I decided…read moreto take Bachata classes. Sergio, the owner and lead instructor, greeted me promptly when I arrived, asked me some questions about my interest and experience, and then introduced me to Melissa, another instructor that would assist him in our beginner class of six students. The one hour class was exactly what I had been looking for! Sergio and Melissa were extremely knowledgeable and patient with our group of beginners. I was especially impressed by the level of technical detail explained for both for "leads" and "follows," and the amount of practice we were able to complete during the hour that much too quickly passed. After the class, I was invited to stay for a second hour to try the intermediate class taught by Jess, another extremely capable instructor. While this class of eight students was more difficult for me, Jess was very helpful and put me at ease as I struggled. I very much enjoyed both classes, found the teachers and other students friendly and enthusiastic, and immediately purchased a pass for the month. I can't wait to return!
