    Chef combo lunch special
    Fuang C.

Friend suggested this place since she came here before and said the sushi was good. We came just in time for their lunch special (Monday - Saturday and ends at 3:30pm). We both got the chef combo 2 that came with 6 piece sashimi (2 tuna, 2 salmon, and 2 something that I can't remember), 3 pieces of sushi and 3 piece tuna and 3 piece salmon roll. It was reasonably priced at $15.50. It also comes with a soup or salad. Place is small and looks like a mom and pop shop. Cozy vibes and good service. Sushi was not bad and tasted pretty fresh but nothing too special. Nothing that blew taste buds. Portion feels kinda small, I was still feeling pretty hungry after. Feels more like a neighborhood restaurant not a restaurant I would travel for.

sushi was delicious! it was my first time coming here, i would come back again if im in the area, small and cozy

    Hair in ginger

It wasn't good , atleast the portion I ate until I found a huge hair in the ginger. I called asking for a partial refund and that I was willing to send the photo but she said not necessary and gave me a ten dollar credit for next time... in which I told her I wouldn't be returning.

Solid sushi place that's not too far from my apartment. Nothing fancy or anything that knocked my socks off, but we were satisfied. They get bonus points from me for having a veggie roll on their menu that includes tofu in it (I appreciate being able to get a little protein in a vegetarian roll). Boyfriend was satisfied with his tuna avocado and salmon cucumber rolls (the latter of which was not on the menu but they happily made upon request). Our server was very nice while taking our orders, and refilled our glasses of water many times. We were there on a slightly earlier side for a Saturday evening, so it wasn't too crowded. The dining area is on the small side - I can imagine it being quite cramped when full.

Solid spot for sushi. Seems decently priced. I like that they don't put too much rice in your rolls and the fish is pretty thick and fresh. Would come back again!

    Sashimi Deluxe with salad

We've ordered takeout from Bai Sushi twice now. Unfortunately, it's hard not to automatically compare similar items to other places that we've ordered from. We recently became fans of rolls with scallop in them so we figured we'd try that out here as well. We ordered the following: the spicy scallop roll, spicy tuna roll, salmon avocado roll and the sashimi deluxe with salad. I'll start by saying by bf enjoyed the sashimi and felt it was pretty solid. There was good variety for sure (I think they advertise it as 21 pieces) though I noticed they counted pieces of imitation crab, and tamago (egg) as part of this as well. For the rolls, my opinion was that it tasted average. Nothing tasted off (so this wasn't about freshness). The salmon avocado roll was pretty normal, somehow the spicy tuna roll didn't quite measure up to spicy tuna I've had from other spots (might just be my preference) and the spicy scallop roll was not as good as the scallop roll we'd had from the other place that we loved. So I admit, my main issue is with the rolls and how they don't measure up to other spots I've ordered from. That said, it sounds like the sashimi was good so I can't speak to other menu items.

    CRAB RANGOON special

Solid standards, a reliable place to try. Impressive range in menu, things made fresh. Food was good. Unique crab rangoon style. Service depends, would suggest not going when you're in a rush.

I was in Astoria to see a friend and was in the mood for sushi. I stumbled upon this place and it was great! Fresh fish, low prices. Always a great sign! The service was great, with kind waiters and quick preparation time. It's just a small, hole in the wall-ish sushi place, nothing fancy. But it's delicious!

Very affordable and delicious sushi. They have a lot of options and the quality is really good. I didn't really stay at the restaurant. I ordered it to go the service was good and very quick. I would highly recommend this place.

The wait was around 30 minutes for 4 on at 1:30p on a Sunday. By the time our meal ended, there were several empty tables. Service (4/5): Timing of the dishes was not in sync with the table (not that that bad, just noticeable). Ordering wasn't as smooth as we hoped but all in all corrected (order was wrong but was corrected when we were asked to re-confirm the order). By the time we sat, the food was out within 20 min and then the pancakes came out another 20 min after the first dish. Food (5/5): The food was outstanding! Seriously like everything from the pancakes, ramen, to the lemonade. Lunch special of Tan Tan ramen (special May 2026) and Pork Cha-Shu Bowl. Tan Tan was spectacular and was def better than the bowl. The broth had so much flavor with richness, spice, spicy level, half seasoned egg. The noodles were also a lovely bouncy chew. The pork was pretty standard with about 5 thin slices spread over a soy sauce based sauce. Omurice was very silky. The egg was nice and runny. I liked that the sauce wasn't too ketchup-flavor forward. I enjoyed the rice which had bits of meat which gave it more flavor too. Crème Anglaise Souffle Pancake - my only wish was that there was more of it because it was so good. The cream that was on top was not too heavy and the zest flavors blended surprisingly well. It comes with a little side of fresh fruit. The cake was not overly egg-y in flavor either. Lavender Lemonade - Not too tart and not too sweet. I liked the forward lavender taste.

Everyone's order was taken but ours. Once we finally got to place our order, we watched everyone finish their meal, while getting morning. Not a drink, not a coffee, not an appetizer. The service was horrendous. We waited for almost an hour to get our meal. Felt bad for the only two sweet women working the entire restaurant--serving, bussing, cleaning, doing everything. Is management out of their mind? Only two people working the entire space, that's packed to the gills? Unacceptable. The two ladies did best they could. Felt bad. The vibes are pretty and are the only reason people flock to this place. AC was out of control--everyone was shivering and there was nothing that could be done. I don't remember ever being so uncomfortable at a restaurant and wishing for to leave after traveling over an hour one way to dine here. $6 Hot Matcha latte & $6.50 hot rose matcha lattes were probably the highlights of our experience, which is sad. Drinks are ludicrously expensive, at $20 a small pop. Hipster prices, hipster experience. $20 chocolate old fashioned was good, but I wouldn't return for it. We got the $19 salty (classic) ramen and the $19 soy (sho-yu) ramen and both were the worst we've ever had. Who wrote all these good reviews for ramen here?? Instant packaged ramen tastes better. The broth was off--tasted of old meat, especially the classic ramen. Noodles were instant pre packed kind. The three time sad pieces of pork tasted of nothing. This was super disappointing. The salmon ikura bowls were nothing to write home about. $16 matcha soufflé pancakes were undercooked inside. Had no taste, but the matcha sauce was sweet and added some light flavor. Overall, would not return. Parking around is nonexistent. Trains are tough. This spot is in the middle of nowhere and so not worth the track.

Dashi Okume sells ... you guessed it ... dashi. They sell several kinds, and you can taste all of them there in the shop before deciding which to take home with you (I tried them all and went home with one bag of vegetable dashi and one bag of sweet shellfish dashi). They also make custom-made dashi. You can choose from around 30 ingredients - dried fish, seaweed, mushrooms, and vegetables. They grind it up and put into individual bags for you. Such a fun idea, but I thought I should try some of their pre-made dashi options before creating mine own. They also sell miso, rice, noodles, rice seasoning, seaweed, tea, and other items. I picked up some Japanese mustard, seaweed, and rice seasoning to take home with my dashi. Beyond being a great shop, they also have a cafe area where they offer a teishoku set meal - you pick your fish, which comes with tea, rice, miso soup, pickles, and sides. They also offer an omakase popup. The shop is beautiful, and the service was very friendly and helpful. I'll certainly return for more shopping but next time I plan to make a meal of it and try their teishoku set.

Everything I've ordered has always been delicious, from the various fish dishes (salmon / arctic char are particular favourites), the stir-fried pork, and their sushi rolls. The salad is invariably so fresh, and the small side of obanzai is always a treat :) Price point is unparalleled -- I think the bento was priced at $12 when I first came a few years ago, and it's still $12 now. Such a lovely cute restaurant -- service is fast and friendly, and the interior, while a bit small, is definitely very cosy and has that unique rustic Japanese aesthetic to it (including a lot of their tableware). Cuisine: 6 Service: 7…read moreDecor: 7 Value: 6 Overall: 6 I have to preface that, if I had reviewed Hibino in the past, they likely would have received 4 stars. Unfortunately, my latest experience was such a letdown that I have to average that into this review. My usual order here over 10+ years has always been their Kaisen Don, which had some of the better quality sushi rice available in Queens. If you don't think sushi rice is important, then skip my review. If you do, then know that my preference is slight warm rice that does not clump together, with a nice touch of vinegar. Hibino seems to get this part right regularly, but not this past Sunday. It was cold, clumpy, and super light on seasoning. Furthermore, as soon as the bowl arrived, I was a bit skeptical since it's not the usual square box filled with premium goodies. Instead, it was a smaller round bowl with relatively common pieces of sashimi. In the past, there were toro, ikura, uni and scallop, but none were present on Sunday. The only premium pieces I received was the spotted prawn. The rest were salmon, yellowtail, bluefin tuna, sea bass, and arctic char. More importantly, some of the sashimi pieces were somewhat mushy and slightly fishy, not the best quality. On the other hand, we also ordered their Chirashi, which had seared toro, yellowfin tuna, salmon belly, yellowtail belly, shrimp, and flying fish roe. Between the proteins and rice is a layer of shredder egg. Sadly, rice was still cold and lacked flavor, but the egg did help a bit. Though I prefer the thin slices of sashimi in the Kaisen Don over the chunky pieces of fish in the Chirashi, I did prefer the latter on that day. Bottom line, I will give them another chance, but the downgrade on the quality of rice and premium seafood in the Kaisen Don was a major disappointment. Praying my next visit restores my faith in the restaurant.

However, after the first time trying it, my partner and I were blown away by the quality of the meal. Each set includes miso soup, fresh sashimi of the day, uni topped tofu custard, pickled vegetables, eggplant, pickles, and your main dish. Our favorite has to be the katsu, it's probably the best value item on the menu. The miso cod was also excellent, super buttery and tasty while not being too expensive. Both options are available under $40. I would also recommend just ordering the standard Japanese rice, since it's already very filling as it is and we've never needed any of the rice with additions. Service can be a bit slow if you come later in the evening, which is understandable as it gets busier with all the set meals coming out. Ambiance is super cozy, with a sit down area that has cushions and a low table. Can't really go wrong with any spot in the restaurant. We come back here all the time when we're craving something homey and filling, would recommend Honzen!
