This restaurant is in old building that has a wonderful historical vibe. I liked the decor, it was interesting to look at. The server was very friendly and helpful and was very prompt taking my order. The menu is packed with good ole fashioned comfort food. While there wasn't anything outrageous on menu it will certainly please most everyone. I had the grilled pork chops. Even though they were a thin cut they were still tender and juicy flavorful. Real mashed potatoes and corn rounded out the plate. I liked the dinner roll, but it would have been better if it was warmed. I will visit again. read more

Adorable rustic cafe off the main path. Super friendly staff and great food! Had the grilled chicken sandwich on the sour dough wheat. Top notch flavors and quality! Beyond amazing food!! Place is amazing nice historic building historic feel!! Staff is amazing and it's definitely a hidden gem!! When in Cuero it's a must stop restaurant!! I got the chicken fried chicken with baked potato and corn!! The roll was lovely and the gravy was excellent it also comes with a salad which was outstanding bc the RANCH & veggies! Didn't take long what so ever! My hubby got the lunch special which was awesome along with the price.. over all should have a few more stars added but you'll have to try for yourself.. left full and completely satisfied beyond my dreams!! Today's lunch was amazing a total score.. why continue to read when you can come try for yourself next time I wanna try to save room for dessert lol but seriously go try it's amazing read more

We were in Cuero for a family event and wanted to have lunch before. After seeing the stars to this place we gave it a try. It was on a Thursday so CFS or Meatloaf. My husband hat the meatloaf and I had the CFS. The presentation may not be fancy but this is good country cooking. My only complain is that my CFS was not top quality, had to leave some not so good part on the my plate. I would recommend this place if you looking for good home style country food. We enjoyed this place, the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Service was fast and it's reasonably priced. Should we ever drive through Cuero, we would for sure stop here for lunch. read more

Return visit to this eatery. My first visit here was delightful-not so this time. Decided on hamburger steak, salad, mashed potatoes, gravy and roll. All homemade and very tasty. But our waitress obviously hated her job. HATED HER JOB. Barely spoke, not attentive. Threw the bill on the table and walked off. Girl, find something else to do please. 4 star for food. One of the last great restaurants in the area. You hear about historic building in the reviews but nobody really mentions the history behind the name. The entire town was founded by german settlers from what I can gather back when America's beef was still being drove down the chisholm trail. Dewitt still boasts the highest head of cattle per acre and there's no better place to get some of that on your plate. read more

I wanted so desperately to like this place. We have a real shortage of places to eat in Cuero. But, after 3 visits - all during lunch, I realize I'm better off hoping for a pet unicorn than to find a restaurant that combines 1) good food, 2) menu variety and 3)customer service. Let me be clear - the women who've served me here have been friendly, positive and attentive but the food presentation is just lacking any appeal whatsover. On my 3rd visit I just couldn't find anything that sounded good, seeing the same old menu items on the other 3 restaurants in town that aren't fast food. So I went with a dinner salad and baked potato. They both arrived at the same time and the baked potato was just a dried looking potato, sliced open, on a plate accompanied with a soup bowl that contained 4 little individual plastic containers with lids of butter, cheese, sour cream, and bacon bits - all ice cold. Couldn't anybody bother to put the items in a container other than to-go items? The salad was just torn greenleaf lettuce with - again - a lidded plastic container of salad dressing. If I wanted it to go I would have asked for it that way. To be fair, this lack of presentation or special touches to make food appealing is a city-wide epidemic as we have experienced this at all restaurants and maybe it is because the majority here are fast food places. With all the oil field traffic and growth, it would seem that demand might help substantiate better offerings and presentation. The ladies are very friendly and I feel bad complaining but I am STARVING for something other than hamburgers or Mexican food. I had high hopes this would be the "home-cooking" it's touted to be. Sadly, it's just another restaurant that opens cans, warms up the food and sends it out with little regard for how the consumer will perceive the dish. I chalk it up to small town syndrome and will continue to look for that pet unicorn to show up. read more

We tried to come her a couple years ago while in the area but couldn't make it happen. Today went in for lunch. Daily specials were beef tips on rice or egg noodles and baked chicken. We each got one and tasted each other's. Great home cooked food, fast service, friendly staff and good prices. Definitely recommend this cafe. read more

We finally found a great place to eat between Austin and the coast! We're kind of picky and this place met our every expectation for a good country meal. Specials were country fried steak or meatloaf, so my husband got country fried steak and I got meatloaf so we could compare. We both were not disappointed! The meatlof had this amazing brown gravy, with mashed taters and green beans. Delicious! In fact, I cleaned my plate entirely, which I NEVER do! Our kids (7 and 5) had turkey sandwich and chicken strips. The chicken strips were so good! They were both happy. The salads we got before our meal were so fresh. My son almost had a meltdown that he didn't get a salad once he tried ours. For dessert... my husband's eyes lit up when she said they have homemade buttermilk pie. I have never had or even heard of buttermilk pie (which my husband just couldn't believe), so we ordered it. OMG, so glad we did. Now I love buttermilk pie - well at least Bahnhof's buttermilk pie. OH! And EVERYONE was so incredibly nice! We were disappointed that Bahnhof was closed on Sunday for our return trip to Austin, but we will definitely be back next time we're headed to the coast. read more

I am not sure if there has been a change in cooks over what was reviewed in the past, but the food was horrible. When teenagers complain about how bad burgers and fries are, you know there is a problem. Then to offer mushy spaghetti and broccoli as a lunch special is not at all special. The only thing they seem to have gotten right is the potato chips with the club sandwiches. The sandwiches themselves were dry and made without any sort of desire to please. The chicken fingers were mostly breading. Given that the building is under construction, the ambience left a lot of room for improvement as well. Needless to say, I would recommend against visiting this train station and wait until you can find a better place to stop and grab a bite. read more

Unfortunately, the Bahnhof Cafe is closed indefinitely. A sign on the front door said that the city had required that they do some repairs for safety reasons. Is there any place else decent between Austin and Port Aransas? read more
