Probably not worth coming to if you don't live nearby, but without a doubt the best bagels in Riverdale/Kingsbridge, and maybe even a little further than that. The bagels are crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside, like bagels are supposed to be and more and more infrequently are. Prices are also good. That being said, the service is horrible, there's no sitting space, cash only, and there's often a line in the morning, so if any of those things sound like a deal breaker, you might want to skip this one. Otherwise, enjoy yourself a pretty tasty no-nonsense bagel. Tip: If you order coffee with your bagel, make sure to ask for it out of the bag unless you want a soggy coffee-flavored bagel. I really really want to enter a place with the word "bagel" in its name and be satisfied with the bagels. But it didn't happen here. I ordered their "new" egg bagel and received a specimen that was paler than a regular bagel, and just as plain. Over-starched, possibly steamed; I don't see how it could have been boiled. No character... and somehow they've survived all this time? Ah well, I'll journey elsewhere next time. I have lived here all my life and for 35 years of it I've gotten my coffee and bagels from Bagel Corner or the other store they own on riverdale ave (Rolen) When my son was a baby I would sit and have a bite and talk to Val and Karen ..(It's Not just about the deliciously baked bagel and steaming hot coffee) Val is one of the few original employees there. New owner of bagel corner & sister store Rolen bagels . I recently gave feedback on yelp of my experience in one his stores in my neighborhood. I walked in this morning, he recognized me . I ordered a few bagels from one of the clerks. The owner is on register says you want cream cheese? I didn't respond. He says again and adds butter to his comment. I replied I'm not going to pay tax & also reminded him that he still had NOT put plus tax on his menu board. He tried to give me an example that Home Depot does not have a sign up. He also tried to play games with me . WRONG PERSON to " egg on." I decided to ask for my refund he gave me it back and told me not to come back. ASSHOLE your in the food service Industry & your comparing yourself to a do it yourself multi million $$$$ industry? REALLY He will not survive on the trial he is on. Bagel Corner is one of the better current practitioners of the art of making the classic New York bagel.Though not as dense and chewy as the bagels in my youth, they are vastly superior to the pneumatically inflated, overly sweetened bagels sold by Ess-a- Bagel , and even worse, H&H. Bagel Corner produces a bagel with a nice, glossy, crust and an interior that provides some resistance, resulting in a real need to chew. The bagels are not filled with air pockets and they are not too soft. I'm giving this 5 stars base don my memories of it as a kid. Like another reviewer I used to stop in here for a bagel an some milk for like 50 to 75 cents. The bagles as I remember them were soooo delicious. And they had a nice crunchiness on the outside and the not too soft inside. If you wanted butter it was slabbed (not spread) on it. I now live in Livermore CA, and have nothing but Noah's which sorta kinda comes close......NOT!!!! Anyway. If oyu live in Riverdale have a bagel for me please. Came in this morning, about 7:15am, got my wife a pumpernickel bagel with roasted garlic, which she loves and has gotten before. This time, upon feeding my wife, since we have a newborn, she began to encounter an allergic reaction. I called to ask if they had any nuts or seafood in the cream cheese or bagels. She said no and said there was no way this could be. I told her my wife was having an allergic reaction and proceeded to ask for the ingredients. She named the ingredients, the only thing I can think of is that they made a Lox bagel and didn't clean off the knife. My wife has take 2 Benadryl's and is not feeling so well. The need to be more careful with cross contamination. Will never buy here again. read more

First and foremost, wish I could give this place a NEGATIVE star-rating. I encountered the rudest, most-disrespectful POS behind the counter when ready to pay. There seemed to be miscommunication between myself and the lady (who was pleasant) prepping the bagels. When I walked into the Bagel Corner with my brother we were in good spirits and knew exactly what we wanted- bagels with lox. The grumpy lady at the counter immediately infected us with bad energy. She didn't greet us with any pleasantries common in the service industry, just a cold "What do you want?". I was already getting bad vibes from the place and considered leaving, but I figured that even a bad bagel shop can probably make a decent bagel with lox. Wrong. Less than 90 seconds from when I ordered, the lady thrust a small to-go bag in front of me. I was confused, because I never asked for the bagels to-go, and the bag in front of me seemed far too small for two bagels with lox. I opened the bag and found that indeed, there were two very small bagels inside. The bagel seemed entirely untoasted (maybe that's what happens when you toast for 10 seconds), with an unsmeared golf ball sized lump of cream cheese right in the bagel's hole with none on the perimeter. And the lox. There was so little lox that I truly could not taste it in any of the 4-bites it took to eat the whole bagel. The little bit of lox that I took out of the bagel to taste was dry, bland and disappointing. Today was my birthday breakfast. I just wanted a simple bagel with cream cheese and lox, and a quiet and polite dining experience. What I got instead was just awful. Horrible service, tiny bagels, and cheap portions. Not to mention needing to hear the counter people bitch and moan the entire time that they don't want to be at work. If you are looking for a decent bagel or a polite breakfast, DO NOT GO TO BAGEL CORNER! To any employees/owners of Bagel Corner- I shit on your establishment.
