Their bagels are delicious, prices are good. I don't see employees handling food with their bare hands, and I'm here at least once a month. They've never been rude, they don't mess up my order and they are fast. Disclaimer: I've never been to Dunellen bagel, which I first assumed these reviews were about since it gets mentioned in a lot peoples' comments. Regardless of how it compares to Dunellen bagel, it's worthy of at least being tried. Apparently I have thick skin, because I haven't been offended by or noticed a lack of friendliness from the staff. When I go to get a bagel I only care about the quality, cleanliness and price--not how friendly they are unless they directly offend me (I accidentally asked for an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich at a Starbucks and was chastised by the cashier because they only offer "gourmet something something", not breakfast sandwich--that offended me). It may be that I have low standards, but I like coming here and have been for awhile now. read more

I wish I could tell you about the food. Apparently there is a policy that whoever takes your order, makes your order. Our order taker didn't bother to make our order and after waiting 30 mins for a couple of bagels with cream cheese, we cancelled our order and left. Can't understand why this is the way that it works; our order was up on the board with everyone else's but the staff is solely focused on the order that they wrote down. We won't be back. read more

Good bagels but not enough staff. When I went on a Saturday morning there was a long wait time to even order, and same person was taking orders, making food, etc. and a second person was struggling to make orders, take phone-in orders and ring us up. I thought I'd give it another try this Saturday morning so I tried to call ahead around 9am to save some time. The phone rang 15 times and NO ONE ANSWERED! R.I.P. Bagel BOP... I grew up in hillsborough and like most people from the area loved Bagel BOP. I recently moved back to hillsborough and was looking forward to reliving fond memories of going to the BOP as a teenager. I quickly realized pulling into the parking to my surprise and dismay that the Bagel BOP was no more and replaced by the Bagel Bistro. Walking in i had to wait several moments for the 2 employees behind the counter to break away from their conversation to greet me and then several more moments for an employee to emerge from the back to take my order. I placed my order for several bagel and grilled sandwiches very simple easy items, what I got was a total disaster. Let's start with the grilled sandwiches. A grilled sandwich should be golden brown crispy and delicious. What we got was barely grilled bread that felt like it had been soaked in a bucket of water before they assembled the sandwich. I wish this was an exaggeration but it's not, the beard felt like 2 damp sponges with meat and cheese between them. All that can be over looked as long as the bagels were good, I mean this is a bagel place after all right? Wrong the comments from our group where that the bagels were bland, stale tasting and over toasted bordering on burnt. But the straw that broke the camels back is that barely any of the orders were correct. Items were missing from some bagels but placed on others incorrectly, flavored cream cheeses were placed on the wrong bagels. To the people claiming that "it doesn't matter it's still Bagel BOP to me and always will be" are so wrong. What a shame... Please come back Bagel BOP because it seems their are no good bagel places in hillsborough anymore. read more

Bagels are usually hard, but that's not even the worst part. The girls who work there don't even acknowledge your presence. I once did a whole transaction without them making eye contact and not even a thanks or bye at the end of taking my money. It's almost comical how rude they can be. Bagel BOP is now called Bagel Bistro. I don't know if it changed ownership or anything, but to me it's still "Bagel BOP" - and the only thing I'm familiar with there are the breakfast sandwiches. If you get breakfast sandwiches from McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts or Quick Chek, please take a break from reading this for a moment to slap yourself in the face. Then get in your car and go to Bagel BOP/Bistro and get yourself a REAL breakfast sandwich. I HIGHLY recommend the following: porkroll, egg & cheese on a roll with a little salt, pepper & ketchup. I agree that bacon is God's gift to man, but get the porkroll - you're from NJ and you're getting a breakfast sandwich. If it doesn't have porkroll on it then you need to slap yourself again. And bagels are cool & all, but not for breakfast sandwiches - they're too hard & require too much chewing. Let your teeth sink into a nice soft roll. Trust me. Get the exact sandwich I described above - it'll be the best breakfast sandwich you've ever had in your life. read more

The service was very friendly and relatively quick, but that's where the positives end. What a disappointment. I ordered a ham sandwich with swiss cheese and mustard on an onion bagel. The bagel was clearly under-baked, there was plenty of ham but only one tiny sliver of cheese and they put mayonnaise on it instead of mustard. Mind you, there were three people working there and only one other customer, so it's not as if they were overwhelmed; there is no excuse. read more

Update: I used to love Bagel Bistro, but recently it appears they got new staff. I went in today and there was no one else in there besides the girl in front of me and neither of us were greeted or smiled at. The two girls running the counter were busy prepping or whatever. Finally the girl took my order for a dozen bagels while the other girl was wearing short shorts and eating behind the counter, so sanitary! She failed to tell me it was 65 cents more for specific bagels of which I got three so my $11 bagels quickly became close to $13. Whatever, I was willing to let that go but then when the receipt printed it was over $14. When i asked she said it was because of a service charge for credit cards. So now my $11 bagels which is a lot to begin with are $3 more on top of the crappy customer service I received. Bagel stadium is $8 and .25 cents for speciality. They should at least have a sign or tell you before you order! I dont mind paying for quality but now I feel ripped off. read more

Very, Very horrible place! They do not have the patience to non-native customers. They speak too fast and impatience show through their face. That guy looked like I owed him money when I asked him to repeat his recommendation. I stood aside over twenty minutes for food because they forget it in the kitchen. I asked that girl and she went inside and never came back. After Several minutes, another woman brought out my food and put aside to serve others. So funny shopping experience! This place is awful. There are millions of bagel places in Boro and I would never recommend anyone to go there. I went to get two bagels this morning. They were not busy and it took forever and when I went to eat my bagel there was barely any cream cheese where I even paid extra for vegetable cream cheese. Never again! I have been a patron here several times before and the only nice person ever was the dude with the sleeve tattoos. Everybody else is either rude or is inconsiderate with your time and loyalty. Tell me how almost 90 percent of the time the same woman has rung me up (and I've been there many times over the past 2 years) and she has never once acknowledged me for being a regular patron? Unfortunately she is the rude Staten Island stereotype you would see on Mob Wives. Also tell me how the owner himself has never even given me a nod even though he's almost always there and he must know I'm a regular! That unfortunately shows a certain arrogance on his part since admittedly their bagels are great and the place is always doing good sales. Now today was the final straw as me and another customer waited three minutes to even have our order taken and while I admit I could have asked them to take it I purposely waited for them to make the first move. Guess what? It never happened! They were prepping deli meats and slicing bagels instead! So the task is more important than the customer at this place and therefore I walked out even though I passed two other bagel shops on the way there! This customer is now gone! read more

O Bagel BOP, I dream of you from afar. OK, I suppose it's possible that Bagel BOP has declined in quality, as I haven't lived in Hillsborough in a while. But they just don't make bagels like this up in Boston. When I was a kid, we'd walk a few miles to get to Bagel BOP during summer vacations. Their bagels were always so good and fresh. I long for the Sunday mornings where my dad would come home with a dozen bagels, piping hot, and the cream cheese would start to melt almost immediately upon spreading it. After checking their menu online, I saw that a dozen bagels would be $11. Fair enough. I decided to give this place a try. What a disappointment. I did read the reviews and figured I could live with the negative aspects of the place, I was only going to buy a dozen bagels. I arrived at 9:30am. They had no salt bagels. The salt bagel is the staple of bagel stores, come on! I ordered a dozen and asked the attendant to mix them up, please, after seeing the paltry selection. A woman behind me said that people who do that are the best customers. The attendant laughed, filled a bag and went to the register. I had seen a sign in the store that Monday was "buy a dozen for $11, receive a bakers dozen plus one", 14 bagels in total. Sadly, this was Friday. I had my $11 cash ready. Imagine my surprise when he jokingly said "one thousand, three hundred twenty pennies". I really thought he was joking, he was not, he charged me $13.20 for the dozen. I asked if it was cheaper by the dozen and he just laughed. I know prices have gone up but I have NEVER paid that much for bagels at a local store. I will never again because I will be never be going back to this hack store. I warned the nice woman behind me what just happened and she was shocked and said "no way". After taste testing all the bagels from the bagel shops in Hillsborough, this was the worst. the bagels were not very good. the atmosphere is not great. if you are getting a bagel don't waste your time here you better off going to Bagelicious, another bagel shop in the area. I find the plugs for Dunellen bagel in these reviews a bit suspicious. First of all, Dunellen Bagel's customer service isn't much better than this place -- if at all. They're grumpy middle aged white men who I rarely see smile. Second they're far enough away from this place to hardly be considered a competitor. Third, I see little that differentiates this place from DB as far as their bagels, coffee or what have you. Both are on the pricey side but maybe that's just because EVERYTHING is getting so damn expensive.. I agree that the ladies behind the counter aren't the friendliest and I remember one time they charged me extra for onions on my tuna bagel.. Extra for onions ? Really ? Way to be penny wise and dollar dumb since I think I've been back here once since then. read more

Alright so I walked into this bagel shop around 1230 ish, brought a friend who has never been here and my fiance. I love this places French toast bagel. So we ordered I had a pork roll egg and cheese on an egg bagel my friend had a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel. My fiancé had a egg salad on an egg bagel. We got to a table and was served. My food was fine and so was my friends. Not enough ketchup but not an issue. My fiancé had eaten half and said she couldn't eat any more. I asked her why and she said it was over peppered. I took a bite and I felt that I had to sneeze. That's how much pepper was in it. Also the egg salad was to dry. Not enough mayo to hold it together. I could get over the dryness but it being over seasoned I could understand. So I go to pay and said I wouldn't say anything unless asked. I got asked by the gentleman at the front how everything was. I said ours was great but hers was over peppered. This woman behind the counter, I presume the manager, comes up and asks what I mean by over peppered. I said it has to much pepper. She proceeds to take the egg salad out and go to the cashier, basically saying I don't see any pepper, there's no pepper in this. Goes to the employee in the back and asks her. This is all going on while a line of people come in. I'm starting to feel embarassed. She then takes a spoon tastes it and says it doesn't taste over peppered. I am stunned. I don't know what to say. She then tells me no one has told her this in 4 years. She took off 2 dollars. Which I didn't want a refund. She ate half, we should pay. My fiancé should of said something on the first bite, but I was so disgusted by her attitude, I'll think twice before going in. Her rant made me feel like an imbecile. I work in a deli and would never do that to a customer. I intend on contacting the owner cause this was ridiculous. read more

By far THE WORST bagel store in town. The food is garbage!! Ever since the place changed hands, you can tell the new owner is being very cheap with ingredients. The last time i went there i ordered an egg sandwich with cheese....i got home and there was no cheese. As well, there was maybe half an egg on it. I should have just ordered a plain roll cause that is basically what i got. I also got 3 bagels and they all went into the trash. My 5 year old who eats everything said, Daddy this is gross, whats wrong with my bagel." I subsequently tasted it and it tasted like garlic ( it was cinnamon raisin) and also tasted as if it was frozen. It is a shame that the new owner ruined a great Hillsborough landmark. The bagels are large and have good texture: soft, but not full of air. I had a perfectly normal experience as far as customer service is concerned. I've never been to Dunellen Bagels, which is the place everyone is apparently reviewing on this page rather than Bagel Bistro. Bagel Bistro did what I wanted it to, and I'll be back. read more

HORRIBLE!!!!!! Sandwiches were sub par! Didn't get what we ordered! When I called Tracy tells me she did the next best thing but didn't even tell me. We ordered sandwiches on rolls. They ran out of rolls and put them on bagels. Not just that but she was rude about it when I got home and called. There was like 2 small pieces of Pork Roll and 1 egg. She hung up on me and I called back to tell her how rude she was and she said she didn't care. As a long time Hillsborough resident, I dislike businesses like this in our community. I would like to review based on the taste of the food but unfortunately was not able to try it. After calling and speaking to a gentleman on the phone who assured me they could deliver to my place of employment, then calling back and spending about 10-15 minutes placing an order, I was told they were sorry for wasting my time but would NOT be delivering my order! If there was a minimum delivery charge I would have been happy to have met it but was never given the option! I will not be trying this establishment. read more

Let me first say that I am a bagel snob. I grew up in New York and bagels were one of my favorite things. They weren't bread and they weren't doughnuts. They didn't have fruit flavors and the only variety was in the toppings. Those are what I call "real" bagels. When this place was Bagel BOP, they sold the closest thing to a real New York bagel in the area. I would use a coupon and stash a supply of bagels in my freezer. Yum! After it changed hands and became Bagel Bistro, the bagels also changed. They are still the best in town which is why they get 4 stars but they are no longer real bagels. The texture isn't as chewy or dense as it should be and they lack that special, yeasty taste. I guess they don't know the secret. They'll do in a pinch but I would love to find real bagels again. On a side note, the owner is usually nice but the rest of the staff tends to be cranky, so bring your positive attitude! read more

The food is always ok but the service is terrible. They're unfriendly for the most part and most of them are inattentive and slow. I went there two days ago for two toasted bagels and I was standing there for 15 minutes. When I saw the girl behind the counter just standing there, twirling her hair, I asked if my bagels were still in the works. She said, "Oh yeah, they're sitting here on the counter, I totally forgot about them..." Once I got them they were burnt and cold with little to no cream cheese. No thank you. I usually hold back on writing reviews being that I have worked in the food service industry, but I can't hold back any longer. When working in the food industry you tend to be a little more critical of the service you encounter. Now, bagel bistro is not my first pick when I want a breakfast sandwich, but it's just convenient. Every time I have gone to make an order or pick an order the girls that work there are just rude. I get it, it's not your dream job, but seriously put a smile on those miserable wannabe teenage faces and say hi. I'm not looking for you to kiss my feet, but the fact not only have you made me uncomfortable, there are other customers here with the same complaint. So, here is a word to the wise, take your "i'm better than you" attitude and crack a damn smile. As for the bagels, not bad, but not the greatest. But the mere lack of good customer service can make or break a customer coming back. Cheer up ladies, you're not as awesome as you think you are. read more
