This place closes at 2pm. Stopped in at 1:27pm to order 2 sandwiches. They tell me they close the kitchen at 1:30 and it's closed. It wasn't 1:30 yet There should be a sign on the door and/or in the window stating the kitchen closes at 1:30 otherwise, they should serve sandwiches until closing time. I can understand if this was a medium or large restaurant, but it's not. Locking the door and leaving at 2 seems more important than a customer to them. read more

I went there recently for a very simple order, a plain bagel with butter on the side. When the young man behind the counter began putting butter on the bagel, I pointed out that I had requested butter on the side. He said "no you didn't". When I told him that I had, instead of simply saying OK, and giving me what I had asked for, he kept arguing with me. I then pointed out that the customer is always right, and he said "no, they aren't ". I asked to speak with the manager. The manager simply came over and said "everything is OK" twice. He never apologized for his employee's rudeness and awful customer service. I see that multiple other customers have complained about poor customer service at this place. Horrible! I ordered Friday for early morning pick up . Saturday . When I arrived no one was at the counter for five to ten minutes . A woman actually turned and walked out because there was no counter person. My order was hanging on the board but not addressed. A non English speaking woman said not ready, ten minutes. I have been coming here for years and get bagels every Sunday. There are new owners and today I ordered bagels with cream cheese and usually you get a generous amount of cream cheese but today with the new owners all our cream cheese bagels had maybe half a teaspoon of cream cheese. If you are looking for a quick and cheap bagel, this is it. The bagels can be hit or miss. I've had it on days where it's fresh and chewy and I've had it on days where it was hard and crunchy, almost as if it was toasted prior to selling. I never got here when it was Bagel BOP but I do like coming here for a fresh bagel when the time calls for it. Thankfully, the bagels are affordable... What is not affordable are the lunch sandwiches. For a little over $8 I can get a ham and cheese sandwich. For the same amount of money, or less, I can buy all those same ingredients and have the same sandwich daily for at least a week, maybe more. This place can be pricey in some aspects but make up for it in others like the bagels or homemade desserts, etc. I think someone hit the nail on the head about the lines here. You always have to ask someone if they are in line since they are often just waiting around for their order to be made and wait next to the counters. It can be quite chaotic at times. I'd suggest that this place rope off an area with a "line starts here" so they can better flow the traffic through. It will be a little more organized. Unfortunately, I have to give it an average review but it won't stop me from going there. With the right adjustments, this place could be another gold mine in Hillsborough. read more

It was better under the former owners when it was called "Bagel BOP." Excellent bagels are now very good bagels. The bagels are still tasty but they are now more like rolls with holes, rather than authentic dense, crusty, chewy, New York-style bagels. Prices went up but the bagels also became huge - perhaps that's why the texture suffered? Still the best place in town for fresh bagels. Superior to pre-packaged or supermarket-baked bagels. On the plus side, the fluffy bagels make easier-to-eat sandwiches. LOL. And they still make great sandwiches for both breakfast and lunch. read more

This is the LAST time I'm going here. Their bagels are ok. Not the best but not the worst. Recently, they've had a turn over in staff and the service has been slower. Product didn't change so I kept going back. I should also mention they messed up 3 of my orders, one of which I specifically told them to not put a certain item on a sandwich because my wife is allergic to it but they did so anyway. Today, after I picked up a $14 food order and paid with my credit card, I noticed a different total on the receipt. When I asked what the "service fee" was, the woman at the counter said there is a new 4% charge on ALL credit card payments. HOW GREEDY CAN THEY BE??? I know this place is under new ownership since my previous review, so I decided to give them another shot. The first few times I came here I was impressed by the customer service and the quality of their bagels. Fast forward to today, their customer service was nonexistent and my bagel could've been good, had the girl not forgotten to finish making my order. I walked in, and I got a snotty "are you picking something up"? Mmmm no, I'm placing a new order... Purposely ordered my bagel extra toasted since their toaster sucks and only ever makes the bagel lukewarm, but my bagel sat at the bottom of the toaster getting cold as the employee "forgot" to slap on the cream cheese and keep it moving. She finally does so and hands it to me without a "here you go", "sorry for the wait", "have a nice day". Just handed it to me like I was an inconvenience. Welp, I tried. From now on I'll drive to Bagel Garden in Branchburg which is 30 min further from me just to get the customer service I deserve. Customer service is horrendous. Girls who work here at rude and bitchy. They make you feel like it's an Inconvience for coming in to get something to eat. I drove 5 miles away to this bagel shop in hopes that they had marble bagels because Bagel Stadium never has them. I immediately noticed how clean and well-kept it was. Everything was displayed well and appetizing; the variety of bagels, the muffins, the spreads. The minor exception was that many of the bagels were very assymetrical & that's a pet peeve of mine. Anyway, I was pleased to find that they had marble bagels in the oven which would be ready in 5 minutes. The service was great. The staff was friendly. Prepared with lox & cream cheese, the presentation was neat & appetizing. Unfortunately the consistency of the bagel was mediocre, something that may be acceptable outside of the NY metro area. The next time I'm craving a bagel I'll be returning to Bagel Stadium 3 miles east. Those bagels are authentic! They're just missing the marble variety. read more

The bagels are delicious. Huge Crispy on the outside. Fluffy on the inside. I was there a few minutes after opening And selection of bagels were still being brought out. The service is very slow. And even after server wrote it down, Had to repeat it several times. Your best bet is just get bagels. Don't complicate it. Also specialty cream cheese will cost you an extra 2.50. The bagels were "fresh out the oven" and still hot. SCORE!!! Got to the car and tore into the bagel.....why is it stale and crunchy??? And why does it taste more like a roll then a bagel ??? Bagel BOP is a staple of Hillsborough. Their bagels are fresh and tasty and their prices are lower than the other bagel shop nearby (206 next to Taco Bell) that hasn't been there for quite as long. The only negative review that I have is that I had a blueberry crumb muffin the other day and it was terrible. It was bland and tasted like the tin that they baked it in. So, as long as you stick with bagels, you'll enjoy what they have to offer! read more

I have been going to this bagel place for the past few years. If I'm correct I believe ownership changed recently. I always have a problem with this place. It's so dark, needs a makeover, and the staff needs a refresher course on courtesy/customer service. I ordered what I usually order ( a bagel with lox and cream cheese) and the woman asked me if I needed anything else and I said no I'm good. When going to pay she says oh I'm going to have to charge you extra because you asked for no cream cheese to I'm substituting it with extra lox. I go ??? Delicious food but it comes with a price. Last Sunday, I made an order on GrubHub, but it took an additional 30 minutes on the approximate delivery time. This is definitely forgivable considering it was a Sunday. HOWEVER, today I decided to make an order at 10:30 am and GrubHub didn't say it was closed or show any problem ordering. I received an email confirmation stating the restaurant received my order. After an hour and a half went by, I had to leave for an appointment (ANGRY and hungry) and hoped the food would be there when I got home. No food after another hour, so I called just to cancel the purchase. The EXTREMELY RUDE person stated they do not do GrubHub orders on Saturday. So I asked to please removed the purchase on my debt card, and he nastily told me that I had to call GrubHub and hung up on me. I will NEVER purchase from this establishment again. Not only are they unintelligent enough to provide GrubHub with the dates that they will not be accepting orders, but they are extremely rude when there's a problem and hang up on a customer. They've never been rude, they don't mess up my order and they are fast. Disclaimer: I've never been to Dunellen bagel, which I first assumed these reviews were about since it gets mentioned in a lot peoples' comments. Regardless of how it compares to Dunellen bagel, it's worthy of at least being tried. Apparently I have thick skin, because I haven't been offended by or noticed a lack of friendliness from the staff. When I go to get a bagel I only care about the quality, cleanliness and price--not how friendly they are unless they directly offend me (I accidentally asked for an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich at a Starbucks and was chastised by the cashier because they only offer "gourmet something something", not breakfast sandwich--that offended me).
