Attentive and friendly service, good food quality, enough menu options for everyone's needs, and a scenic view that can't be beat. I had the haddock supper with chips and peas, husband had the gammon steak with egg, chips and peas. We both liked our dinners enough to think about going back for their full breakfast. Not cheap, but not expensive either. Nothing too fancy here, but definitely worth a visit for something slightly different from the standard pubs on Main St. when you're in Largs-- especially if the sun is out and you can sit on the front seaside patio! Nobody else has this wonderful view! P.S. It's now called the Green Shutters Bistro...

My friends daughter was hungry so opted for a kids mac cheese and chips which went down really well while we just had some soft drinks and coffees. There's the usual fare on the menu - main meals, sandwiches and icecreams and some good veggie options. Although we weren't eating we did clock the prices which seemed pretty steep. Some butter tablet icecream ( one kids scoop) was £2.50 which did seem pretty cheeky. Our small coffees were over £2.50 each but we didn't object too much given we were enjoying the chat and the view. We did laugh at some of the other prices though - £3.10 for a breakfast roll and egg and 80p for a single digestive biscuit! I must admit the young guy serving was a gem - really smiley and enthusiastic, but I do think that this place is taking liberties with its prices. But when you're having a day out by the seaside, price isn't that important!

There's a variety of small round and square tables and soft-seated dining chairs (perhaps the tables are slightly too close together but this would only be a slight issue when the cafe is full). There's a nice blue carpet throughout, pretty floral pictures on all walls, shelving units with ornaments, good lighting, a long counter with mirrors behind and delicious looking cakes under glass (I didn't succumb on this occasion!!) apparently everything is home-baked. There are breakfasts served all day, from eggs on toast and full cooked meals to honey toasted Granola. Lots of 'light bites' and full 'Hot Plate' lunches on offer too, plus salads, baked potatoes, sandwiches with imaginative fillings (£4.95-£5.50) and a special 'soup and a sandwich combo' (£5.95). There's a children's menu too. Lovely desserts as well including ice cream sundaes. Largs is a great place to find good quality ice cream, thanks to the Italians there! There's waitress service in the cafe and the lady who served us was very pleasant. The pop music playing on the radio was slightly irritating and didn't seem to fit the surroundings somehow, though at least it wasn't loud!

There is so much choice of delicious Indian dishes and also a European menu. The restaurant was clean with beautiful decor and a wonderful view over the Clyde with the ferry to Cumbrae going back and forth. The service was excellent and friendly. We've decided to go there again over Christmas! For some people access might be difficult at the restaurant is upstairs without a lift. The staff seem happy to help those who have difficulties by carrying pushchairs or bags, etc. They also do a take away service and the restaurant is open at lunchtimes as well as evenings. Sometimes you're lucky and can park in the street outside or around the corner, otherwise there is a large car park directly opposite (costing £2).

It's an old building, and obviously the stair carpet was well worn so gives the wrong idea of what to find, the staff greeted us immediately and were very courteous, not very many people inside as he had actually had new carpets fitted in the main restaurant so he explained he had to cancel the buffet for that day. We did not wait very long for a pre dinner drink or the menu. Ordered house special saffron rice and chicken korma and lamb rogan josh poppadoms etc. The meal arrived within ten minutes, and it was absolutely delicious- the meat was very nice not this tumbled chicken you tend to get now and the lamb was succulent and soft it melted in your mouth. The owner was a great hospitable guy who could not do enough for you, and his wife and the young English guy waiter were very friendly. The meal cost £28.50 for two people absolute bargain. The best Indian meal we have tasted in a long time, deserve 5stars.

Vastly overpriced too. UPDATE 2011 Unfortunately still not impressed. Went there the other day for breakfast. We ordered two things but both were completely wrong when they arrived. I imagine the waitress didn't listen because I have a very clear speaking voice. I ordered scrambled eggs and toast and I asked for an egg roll for my husband with the egg very well done - as hard as possible. My scrambled eggs arrived adorned with rashers of bacon across the top - definitely not something a strict vegetarian of 25 years wants to see!! I asked for fresh scrambled eggs - I didn't want the bacon just to be removed (as happened somewhere else once which left the eggs tasting of bacon fat). Of course, I then had to wait a while for this to be done. When it arrived it seemed to have been thrown together without too much care because there were bits of egg shell and concentrated salty areas amongst the egg. However, I didn't want to send it back a second time so ate it anyway. As for my husband, well, his egg roll arrived fairly quickly. He turned it sideways to bite into it and the liquid yolk flowed out onto the plate. So he sent that one back and had to wait for another. When it arrived it was fine. The girl was reasonably pleasant but the man serving (Max?) was friendlier. I daresay they thought we were a real nuisance but they did their best to put things right. We found the cafe a bit cramped but, apart from that, it was a pleasant place to sit. There was nice decor and it was bright and cheerful with the sun coming through the long window beside the street. There was jazz music playing at a sensible level which was nicely atmospheric. Free newspapers to read as well. It's next to the huge car park near the ferry and on the edge of town so a very good position. The menu offered a lot of choice throughout the day (breakfast 9-11.30; lite bites 3.30-5.00; dinner from 5.00 and open 7 days a week too. For my fellow vegetarians, there a veggie breakfast available (£.5.50). Later on there's macaroni cheese, baked potato with cheese, and omelettes. The wine menu is good too and there are lovely desserts, cakes and pastries on offer. I must admit I wanted everything to be as near perfect as possible because I was looking forward to updating my first review (which I have just shortened). It's a shame to have had a poor experience again. They might just have been having a bad day which can happen to us all occasionally. We'll see what happens next time!
