The Beacon Bistro

The Beacon Bistro

As front-of-house theatre cafes go, this is one of the best. The Beacon is a new-ish building and…read morethe cafe/bar is very clean and modern in style, with large windows providing good views over the river. It's open throughout the day, so you can drop in for coffee or brunch; but they really excel at the pre-show dinners. Really nice food that is well-presented with attentive service. Good sized portions too. If you want a classy theatre experience come and eat here beforehand, but allow plenty of time so that you can relax into the genteel atmosphere and enjoy the views across the Clyde.

It was quite busy, with the headlining band eating right among the other patrons, but we were able to find one empty table which was nice. We ordered our drinks and sat down and enjoyed the atmosphere before the concert. This is a huge bistro, plenty of seating for a meal if you're in the area (with or without seeing something on at The Beacon) and plenty of nice staff members around to help. Even though we were only here for a quick drink, a staff member came over to make sure we weren't after a meal. Looking back, it would have been nice to have a bite to eat, as we weren't able to score any solid meal after the event, only drinks. Great place, and I love the star lamps in the windows.

Some people decided full stop never to go…read more(without ever having been) and others make it a weekly occurance and its not unusual to have a brithday party or some sort of celebration tucked away at the back. We have been going here for years. Since we were 16 it was our stop if one of our pals was one year older, had passed their driving test, or we just wanted to feel grown up and go out for dinner! The food is always far better than I imagine it to be! The portions are MASSIVE in here to unless you are completely famished, I would recommend giving the starter a miss and going right onto the mains. Service isn't brilliant, but then again it is a small town and it's usually young servers learning the trade, so be patient. However it is noteworthy to mention that service is always undoubtebly friendly and welcoming. So next time youu find yourself in Greenock pull up a chair in Morgans, and enjoy the biggest meal you'll ever have.

Morgan's Cafe Bar on West Blackhall Street, was our ..eh.. local…read more It has changed owners and management several times and has had more makeovers than I care to remember. It is a decent enough bar/restaurant and has all your expected beers on tap or bottle. The restaurant part has always been a little hit or miss. It does OK fares with little gusto. - Com'on - it IS Greenock - you couldn't expect too much of culinary standards, as long as it is decent. And they did 'decent food' very well. Not serving the usual food of "[blank] with chips" it did salads, fresh green, rice and el dente pasta meals. Fancy enough for Greenock I suppose. So Morgan's is OK and cheap (ish) and that is what it is.

The Indian restaurant at the Port and Harbour is a disappointment. It promises Scottish and…read moreOriental cuisine but it is no different to any other indian restaurant in that you can get a Gammon Steak and a few dishes with chips. Perhaps I am wrong. It does differ in two regards :- Firstly, the meals are not as well prepared, the meats seem to be cheaper cuts over cooked for safety (Thankfully). The curries are stodgy and too brightly coloured to be safe. The reds and yellows look as if they have been stolen from the paint shop. Secondly, the service is very poor. It was both slow and inaccurate. In our group one meal was entirely forgotten. (Sadly though it did resurface - more than once) This place has changed hands a number of times in the last years and one has to wonder if the site is jinxed.

I have droped it a visit, and I was gobsmacked to see everythng have been changed and the service in the restaurant are still excellent. However, I have not yet viewed or stayed in the hotel yet Mind you this place is quite pricey, and it is suitable for well off people
