Keep in mind it's BYOB, however complimentary coffee & dessert is offered. He has great local suggestions for stores to buy wine from, though, which I would also recommend! Also ask Drew about taxi options home - he put us in touch with an excellent driver and even organised it for us. All in all, I couldn't recommend this experience more. Friendly but fairly aloof in terms of service, the young waitress spending much of this slow service flirting with a bartender, Stravaigin's menu offers a good bit of customization whether one opts to partake a just a Burger, in courses or using small-plates as a sort of Tapas. Not neglecting Whisky across a Cocktail list, Elevenses a smoky Citrus masterpiece, the "wee" portion of Haggis is perfect for one with four-bites of liberally spiced Offal alongside equal size quenelles of Potatoes and Rutabaga. Spanning south for fried Bitterballen, straight out of Germany with smoked Ham, Fish Fritters get a bit muddled by the aggressive heat and creamy dressing while Carrots are unevenly cooked but pleasant in a mix of Nuts, Beets and unnecessary Tofu. Uncertain why any menu would offer both Flan and Creme Caramel for Dessert, though locals seem to prefer Cheese regardless, an Italian riff in the former was small and smooth but frankly unmemorable in either a negative or positive way.

I would like to suggest that diners are offered a dish of veggies of the day for the whole table, or ask the diners to pick 2 veg from a small selection? I wasn't super hungry as I was saving room for our lunch at 1pm. I got two poached eggs and toast. The poached eggs were a bit runny for my liking. Overall though this is a great cafe and I like the layout. The service was very friendly. They were setting up a bunch of reserved tables for what looked like a fancy lunch. Lot of people were working there at the time and I assume prepping for a big party.

Not that it was mundane in any sense. It was delicious! I washed these down with a Diet Irn Bru - the guilt-free version of Scotland's most popular soda. It really does have it all - fresh fruit and vegetables all leafy and colourful, a gin lovers corner, wonderful cheese and meats deli, health foods section including a variety a GF flours, breads and oatcakes (try their own oatcakes, completely different from the brand that sounds like Talkers but sooo much tastier!), tray upon tray of freshly laid eggs...I could go on but you get the idea! And that's just the food section! They also have a glorious gift section where I could've easily spent a small fortune. Everything from kitchen gadgets to picnic baskets, kiddie gifts to Emma Bridgewater pottery and everything in between. I spotted a few local producers too which I loved as I always like to see locals businesses supporting each other. (We found a spot upstairs. Our bartender was quite knowledgeable in the extensive collection and guided us to a good choice. (Our main direction in every bar was to give us something we'd have a hard time finding back in the States.) That got us to a Duich Moss dram...heavily peated (just the way I like it) from Islay...a great choice for one of our last whiskeys in Scotland. If you like Scotch Whiskey, you can certainly get it any and everywhere in Scotland...but this place is a true Scotch lovers' destination...the selection is unrivaled, and you'll find yourself in a great, historic atmosphere to enjoy it.
