They have really good sales on tennis, pickleball, and golf clothes and shoes!! The clearance section had shoes at $40! While assisting and catching up with regular patrons, Jay took the time to educate me on how to regroup my clubs so I could maybe try to do them myself next time and also give me some insight on general club fitting. It's a small little shop (next to a decent driving range), but there is undoubtedly a sense of community here. Between the patron who was trying out all sorts of clubs from the available selection to the gentleman who wanted to dibs on the next shipment of a particular brand of clubs that was coming in that week. TL;DR - Come for the service. Stay for the people.

Jay and Matt are extremely knowledgeable and the shop has everything you could ever need. I have purchased my irons, hybrids, woods, putter and even my bag from there and I spent far less than I would've at a normal retail establishment (plus, the aforementioned stores don't even carry the Cleveland Golf equipment brand I wanted). Whether you are looking for new or used, they'll either have it or know where to get it. Did I mention they take trade-ins? They are as good as it gets and worth the drive regardless of where you live in the central Virginia area.

Ultimately it is well worth the cost. My coach Kevin D. is great. Kevin developed a plan and we worked through a lot of different swing issues. We even did a playing lesson out on the course. I love being able to come in and practice indoors when it is cold/hot outside. I have dropped 2 points off my handicap with the 15 lessons that I took. Looking forward to dropping it some more. Overall I would 100% do it again and I plan on extending my plan out when it's time. If you decide to go this route, you need to put the practice in, if you do not you will have wasted your money. You need to take what you learned in your lesson and practice it and get ready to focus on another topic at your next lesson. Thinking of cost, it is roughly the same as going to any legit PGA level golf instructor. The difference is that you have to pay it all up front at GolfTec. But the added benefit is that you get to come in and practice, using all the technology/equipment, and you do not have to pay for range balls. Final thought, I dropped some money on new golf clubs a year prior to starting at GolfTec. I wish I had taken that money and used it on these lessons first. I would have been much further along than I am now. It's funny that people will spend a bunch of money on equipment and then complain how bad they suck at golf. But they don't want to spend the money on lessons so they can use their shine expensive golf equipment. Just go and do it.

I stopped into Dick's the other day for a can of Mace. I walk downtown daily and have had a few…read morealmost-altercations with drivers who don't understand they need to stop for pedestrians who are halfway across cross walks with the walk signal, so I wanted to arm myself in case I ever encounter an extra aggressive motorist. I used to have a can on hand when I worked in a fairly dangerous part of North Philly (that I never used), but that stuff expires after a few years, so it was time to refresh! When I walked in with my mom, we were immediately greeted and assisted with finding the Mace. They actually had a large selection of cans, which I thought was pretty random but nice. I chose the pink one without tear gas for $15 and was quickly on my way. The rest of the store seemed clean and well-designed, but I didn't stick around to browse. This location is in the Willow Lawn shopping center surrounded by a bunch of other chains, but parking was easy on Sunday. I'd return for sporting goods or some more Mace if needed in the future. I wish they would add more targets to dial in distances. I've got multiple lessons from Brooks Ward and he's a great guy. He adjusts to your play level and is easy to talk to. I was shooting mid to low 80s pretty consistently before meeting with him and now I am into the high 70's low 80's after a few months of adjusting to changes. Our lessons were more focused on swing mechanics and specific shot types. The 6 hole course is a great time if you only have a half hour or if you are teaching someone new to the game.

I will likely sue Club Champion for negligent misrepresentation, breach of contract, and unfair trade practices. As noted previously, my driver and wood swingweight was noticeably different from the fitting. However, Mason dared to lie on several occasions. First, he said we only used my clubs. Then, a few days later, he said he used a lighter model for the fitting for the driver, which is a different loft than my driver. This does not account for my three woods. He also did not notify me of such changes during the fitting. I have all of this in the text and will use it as evidence. Management was not good either. He went MIA for a month and delayed our communication. He thought I would drop it after some time. I reached out to him again, but this is not a big deal for them. They allow their employee to behave in such a manner and do not care. Just read reviews about them online before deciding to visit them. Google Reviews feels like they are all fake. I do not recommend club champion. Got fitted for irons and long range clubs and all the swing weight is completely off. D0 irons but turned into a mix of C5 and C6. D2 drive and 3 wood but D8 and D6 (wtf). Irons wasn't a hard fix but the driver and wood is unplayable. It feels like swinging a sludge hammer. The fitter in Richmond, VA is also a liar and conducted negligent misrepresentation. After the fact, he said he probably used a lighter qi35 head instead of my qi35 head? For one, he didn't tell me. Two, there was no way he did that for both my driver and wood. Sold me expensive shafts and they are unusable. He also used a 10.5 head instead of a 9.0 according to his regional manager. Also, when I asked him about it, he guaranteed we only used my clubs (have proof via text). Mason is either a shitty fitter or lying. At least lie about using the same degree head to your regional manager.
