The charcoal pineapple + vanilla appears to be a great marriage of flavors. They were out of the cones I wanted, but I was good with the bowl. I look forward to trying other flavors. Awesome place if you're looking for something different! They pretty much only sell ice cream but not your regular or traditional flavors. They set themselves apart by going out of the box. According to the cashier their two most popular are the "Mixed Feelings"(charcoal pineapple + vanilla) and "Koo Koo for Earl" (coco puffs + Earl grey). We chose the mixed feelings. Then they ask if you want cone or cup. If you choose cone, then you have to pick from a variety (charcoal, chocolate, matcha and some others). We chose charcoal. They also have many different toppings from traditional to "boujee" like 24k gold leaf (+$5.00). Service was quick and friendly. Once we got our cone man it looks so appealing and instagram worthy. The taste is also good. You mostly taste the pineapple and the sweetness of the vanilla is a nice contrast. The place is very appealing to the eye. Bae is a ice cream shop located in the Asian district of Houston (which is huge with lots to offer by the way). We'd seen pictures of the ice cream on Instagram and google. It looked so fun and creative so we knew we had to visit while we were in the city. When we arrived they described the flavors to us and let us know the machine for their top two flavors was down (bummer!) Luckily they let you try their selections so we picked alternatives. I wanted to love it all but unfortunately, I just wasn't that impressed. The ice cream tasted more like a yogurt or something similar instead of soft serve like it's presented. Wanted to try a new dessert place in Chinatown. I ordered the matcha ice cream on a cup. It's nothing special, just another ice cream place. 1. My ice cream was too soft, like it didnt have time to process in the machine. Also the ice cream wasn't creamy, it just tasted icy. 2. Place is too small, it crowded. It's not a place you could sit down enjoy the ice cream & hangout with family or friends. I didnt like the layout of the store, just 1 big table. 3. Services was slow too. The plus side is they do give u a sample of the flavor to try before you buy. There's plenty of ice cream places in Chinatown that are way better. Decent soft serve icecream, I recommend the matcha flavor or Earl grey tea, both taste really good. Always remember that you don't have to get the icecream as a combo even if it looks more interesting since some of the flavors can be too strong or sweet. It was my first time going and I can say I won't be going back! The service was subpar to say the least. The ice cream cone was small in comparison to others I've had but the part I was most troubled by was that the way the ice cream was in the cone. The ice cream was swirled perfectly, but from tip of the cone going down the to the cone the middle was completely hollow throughout! We enjoyed our visit to their Little Tokyo location in LA last year and were excited to find out they were opening in Bellaire a few weeks ago. Been here three times in the past week because it's so so good! It would have been four but we couldn't wait in the super long, out the door line one night. Our favorite is the Koo Koo for Earl and our friends love the Chocolate and Matcha combo. Love the decor and not to mention the honesty of the staff. The first time, one of our friends realized he lost his very expensive Cartier bracelet the next morning. When he called to ask if anyone found his bracelet, they immediately asked if it was a Cartier and that they had it. What a relief! Their honesty alone is worth giving them more business. The strongest feature of Bae is the aesthetic. They really nailed the perfect swirl, and it holds up beautifully for photos. Their interior decor is also great for this purpose. Their ice cream I would say is decent. It's a bit firmer/grainier and not as melt-in-your-mouth as I would prefer my soft-serve to be. Overall I wasn't really blown away by their flavors or the creaminess of the ice cream as I am at Aqua S, although you might get a bit more ice cream for your buck here at Bae. First time here, not too bad but hard to find. No signage store front or on the street. Drove in circles but finally found it! It was pretty packed at 2 PM on a Friday afternoon. There were about 8-10 option for flavors of ice cream with choices of 4 or 5 cone flavors, one flavor for a cone bowl, or you can put it in a cup or make a float. There was a lot of options for toppings I chose the matcha/chocolate with matcha cone and gold hearts and silver stars. It was a delightful mix and was pretty good! I want to try the cereal mix next time I was confused if it was yogurt or ice cream? Whatever it is the concoction was very good and will like to come back next time.
