Very thorough healing experience. I frantically found James for my boyfriend who was bedridden after a severe ankle sprain. James was able to get to our apartment within a few hours, I'm very grateful for how quickly he got back to me. My boyfriend isn't an acupuncture skeptic per se, but he's less likely to turn to it than I am so I was a bit apprehensive about it but he LOVED James. They bonded over basketball (the injury was basketball related) and James had very very thorough knowledge about sports injuries. It was incredibly impressive. He even offered strengthening exercise for my boyfriend to do, and advised us on an herbal tincture to take the swelling down which really worked. A week later I saw James for some digestive issues and also had a fantastic session. I really left feeling so much better and hopeful that I could resolve a semi-chronic issue. Other people note that he is so gentle, I really felt that too. Most importantly, I've been healing up nicely. Dr. Bae is the best. Great bed side manner and very personable. He's also taking all the precautions necessary during the pandemic. He temp checks, sanitizes your hands and checks your breathing levels. He's done wonders on the my lower back pain and even recommended specific stretches to help me out. I haven't visited Dr. Bae since before lockdown. He recently moved to a much better ventilated location considering the current pandemic challenges. His check in and screening were thorough and he's meticulous about sanitization and keeping things safe and secure. NOW onto the acupuncture- I've seen James 4-5 times. Every time he is a god send, particularly for any kind of trauma/injury work. He came highly recommended through my industry which can be tough on the body. The acupuncture is top-notch, and he is knowledgeable in so many other areas as well, that I always feel my needs are completely taken care of. Dr. James is a scholar and health professional. I've known him for quite some time now and can attest to his skill and wide knowledge base. He's really good with his hands as well as with the needles. If you don't particularly like Western doctors, he's a great go to guy. Attentive and widely experienced in the treatment of diseases in many categories. I ask him questions on many subjects related to health when I see him and he's always very resourceful. His treatments really cover a wide ground because of his yoga, ayurveda and psychology background. Being a meditator and yoga practitioner myself, it's a treat to be in the care of someone who's so knowledgeable, experienced and committed to his practice and continuing studies. Some of my friends have had great results from acupuncture, so I wanted to give it a shot. Found this place via Yelp reviews, and everything that's been said is true. Ive only had one private consultation so far but I certainly plan to continue with the community sessions. James was very helpful, and provided a mix of acupuncture, herbs for healing and muscle massage. For a first timer I would highly recommend it! The facility was nice and clean, good calming music, and I felt very comfortable. James listened to my problems and seemed very knowledgeable about pretty much everything - he even know I was a caffeine addict without me saying a word about it! I visited Bae Acupuncture ~9 months to 1 year ago (yes, this review is overdue!) and, simply put, I wasn't impressed. For starters prior to my first visit, I was emailed an intake form that requested my medical history, vitamin intake, etc., etc. I spent a good hour or two comprehensively filling out the form and emailed it back. On the day of my first appointment NONE of this information was taken into account because James didn't have my form. He also didn't have access to my form via electronic means and didn't remember the content it conveyed. He also didn't recall my being scheduled on the day and time that I was. I politely expressed my frustration and mentally summed it up to disorganization. When I threw in the fact that the office was overly hot (HE was sweating and I began to upon entry), I was already put off. I wasn't at all relaxed, but I remained open-minded hoping the best was yet to come. After I rehashed some general things I had shared on my intake form, we settled on targeting my general back pain. Admittedly, I felt like I was being rushed and that his attention was divided elsewhere. He mentioned that he'd normally do cupping for my back issues, but that he didn't have the needed items on hand. Frankly, that comment added nothing to my experience, but it reinforced my previous thoughts. Long story a bit shorter, post acupuncture I really didn't feel any different. Yes, I felt a bit more relaxed and rested--anyone would laying still with eyes closed, but my back pain was unchanged. I've had numerous acupuncture sessions prior to visiting Bae Acupuncture and even the worst of these made me feel more cared for, significant, and heard. The worst of these at very least matched the relaxed/rested feelings I had post this session. It's obvious that James has many positive trait-based qualities--others readily attest to this. Regardless, for a first timer like me, these didn't make up for all the negative downsides. They also didn't inspire my return. read more

This guy should be indicted for medical malpractice. He nearly punctured a nerve in my neck and, on top of that, his office was infested with roaches. The place wreaks of musky aromas and when I explained that my neck pain was worse than before the "treatment," he got upset and had a modd reaction with me. I've gone to James for my last two injuries and every single time I experience IMMEDIATE results-both reduced pain and swelling. I can't leave Brooklyn, because I need James! I've been seeing James for acupuncture treatment for a few years. I'm a chronic migraine sufferer and when I wasn't in pain, my mind was in a permanent fog - I struggled to form sentences or had my boyfriend help me try to communicate my jumbled thoughts into words so I could put them down on paper. It was very frustrating. I had been in this state for no less than a year. I finally decided to give acupuncture a try and found James Bae. He is so nice and hilarious! (On his way to the stereo, he asked if Metallica was ok to play. hahhaha... His music selection is actually very nice and soothing). I had a great session and felt that "bruised" feeling in my head dissipate, and as I left the building, I felt clear-headed for the first time in at least a year! Choking back tears, I was in disbelief - I wasn't expecting such an immediate improvement. I was so excited, I went straight home to work on the creative writing pieces I had abandoned, and was able to write freely without struggling with jumbled thoughts and the inability of getting thoughts from mind to paper. I have been visiting James for treatment ever since and even got my boyfriend and close friend on board. I still get migraines, but the frequency has lessened and they are less severe thanks to the acupuncture treatments. I email James now and then in need of emergency migraine relief and he has been able to accommodate me. The clinic is beautiful, quiet, and clean. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Bae Acupuncture!!! After two years of mostly futile fertility/health treatments at a typical Western medical clinic, I decided to try acupuncture. I admit, I did not do too much research, but happened upon a Living Social coupon for Bae Acupuncture, looked up the reviews here, and decided to try it out. I made my appointment by email - very quick and efficient - and prepared my intake health history form. Even the intake form impressed me: it was so thorough and covered every possible aspect of one's health and wellness. When I arrived at the office, I met James Bae, whose poise, calm voice and huge smile made me immediately feel at ease. We reviewed my history thoroughly and again I was impressed by the additional questions and insights James offered. He is extremely knowledgeable, well read and experienced, and unlike most doctors I've encountered in hospitals, he is humble, caring, thoughtful and communicates clearly. James is totally accessible....AND he is HILARIOUS! The space is very clean, soothing and pretty, filled with books, beautiful screens, calming music/words on the speakers and an altar on a table. The treatments are very relaxing and vary depending on what the patient needs at any given time. Along with the treatments, James will explain his assessments and gives advice on diets, exercise, meditation, breathing and prescriptions for special herbal blends personalized for each patient. (Ordering and receiving the herbs was extremely easy and cheap!) In addition to this, James sends out weekly emails on very interesting, relevant topics related to his own scholarship that always inspire me. Within several treatments, we immediately noticed huge improvements in my mood, energy levels, spiritual well-being, general health and specific fertility issues. I saw James for a long standing injury, for which I had seen other health care professionals, including a physical therapist, a chiropractor and a couple of other acupuncturists. The other acupuncturists were too expensive to see regularly on my budget, though acupuncture seemed to offer more relief than other types of therapies. James is a much better acupuncturist than the other ones I saw, which is why it is so amazing that he is willing to offer his services on a sliding fee scale. He seems to have a much better understanding of the human body--he made some simple suggestions regarding exercises and self-care that really made a difference in addition to using the technique of cupping. Worst acupuncture experience I've ever had. The place was dirty, the room was disheveled, he covered me with a scratchy cheap towel as opposed to proper linens and sheets. It was rushed. He had multiple clients he was juggling at the same time, dashing from one room to the next, he's $20 more than my previous acupuncturist and I would pay my precious acupuncturist $50 more to have her professionalism and calm demeanor, than this place. read more

Many can acquire the science of acupuncture but few have the hands of a healer. James has those hands. I have been treated by James for about a year now for various ailments - eczema, pulmonary problems, sleep disorder etc. James never fails to make me feel better the very next day. I have a pulmonary condition called pulmonary sarcoidosis which Western medicine has no solutions for. James is usually able to clear the congestion and make my breathing easier in just one visit. James has the ability to be very present with his patients. Therefore, he makes his patients feel secure. You feel seen and care for; not just one from the herd navigated through the system. In addition to being a gifted healer, he is also a kind and giving man. I love visiting him for it always feels like I am visiting kindness. A community acupuncture client for about a year I agree with some of the good ratings given, however his new office structure de-emphasise community and focuses more on private clients. The community setting changed drastically and once he closes the door to attend to a private client he may not return to check on you for up to 60 minutes. He also can not hear you from the private room should you need his attention yelling wont help. Additionally he does not constistently offer exact instructions when prescribing herbs. He also does not review in detail your medical needs with each visit, he mostly asks how you are doing, very vague. It is easy to think you are receiving great treatment when you haven't experienced other practitioners. Due to the change in community hours I found a different practitioner who to my surprise had full medical forms ( 6pages) to fill out, and talked me through every medical ailment I ever had. This approah indicates a more WHOLE approach to treatment as opposed to Bae's approach which targets/isolates the treatment to your area of concern. The new acupuncturist ( Practical Acupuncture-Lennox) even checked on me DURING my session, not when it was done. Good Acupuncture just got better thanks to my switch to Practical Acupuncture. James Bae was the best acupuncturist I have ever had. I was diagnosed with bells palsey which is a paralyses in the face because of an infected nerve. James treated me every other day since I was diagnosed and my bells palsey was completely cured in a week in a half when it was supposed to take 4 weeks to a year. I believe that it cured so fast because of my treatments. His space is extremely relaxing and clean and his prices are affordable for Williamsburg Brooklyn and with the knowledge and experience he has made me feel safe.
