I was introduced to Dr. Mike through my girlfriend, who was seeing him for a hip injury. For nearly a year before my first sess with Dr Mike, I had suffered constant pain and discomfort in my neck and left shoulder area. It sucked. Long story short, i went to Dr Mike for ~6 months initially twice per week, then once weekly when symptoms were manageable.... I'm virtually symptom free today. It has been nearly 3 months since I stopped my sessions. I was initially a skeptic... it took my girlfriend many months of convincing for me to finally give in schedule an initial consultation. As many people are, I was resistant to seeing a chiropractor (my prior experiences with chiropractors where less than remarkable). However, i was immediately convinced by his approach to understanding and addressing the root problems of my pain. And while I was really hoping I could go in maybe 2 or 3 times and be fixed, I knew that it was going to take considerable time and dedication to coming in every week to get the long term or even permanent relief that I needed. I first found Dr. Mike while searching for a chiropractor for my girlfriend, whose spine is like a slinky held in extension by hope and a mass of knotted muscle. As he worked on her for a few weeks, our days changed and lives improved as she gained the ability to start conversations with phrases aside from "My back hurts." I'm a weightlifter, and for the most part the barbell keeps my back strong enough to hurt only in a way that indicates I'm making progress, but one day I was doing a chin-up when I heard a slight pop and fell to the ground in agony. My upper back and neck froze up completely and I couldn't move. I went in, looking markedly more stiff and in pain than when we last met. I explained how I felt my training regimen had helped my lower back, shoulder, and other such problem areas, and that I was confused as to what had gone wrong in a chin-up to hurt my neck. He asked me what my daily activities were like outside the gym, and if they included, say, hunching over a laptop significantly below my eye level in a way that constantly bent my thoracic and cervical spine. I meekly admitted this. The moment he touched my neck, he sighed with a tone of grim resignation to the task ahead. It was a solid mass of tensed muscle. As he slowly, painfully worked on the tissues, we got to talking. Turned out we went to the same gym, and he'd also read and enjoyed Mark Rippetoe's Starting Strength. When I could manage to talk through the pain, we discussed which of the gym's squat racks we preferred. This is to establish that he was not the sort to say that you shouldn't do squats because they're bad for your knees. When the session was over, he managed to dramatically improve my range of motion and level of pain, but told me to hold off from training. Despite his label as a chiropractor, not once in the time I went to Mike did he do the Dramatic Neck Crack that is the staple image of chiropractors in pop culture. He mainly did ART (active release therapy) work on me, which is kind of like when you peel apart multiple chicken cutlets from a package that all got stuck together, except he does it without opening the package, the package is your skin, and you are the chicken. It is stunningly painful at the moment it's done and then dramatically reduces pain in the long term. Once we fixed my neck he helped me improve the mobility in my left shoulder, which has always been a problem area. Dr. Mike is legit great at his job and, provided you can afford it at all, is a worthwhile investment in increasing your health and comfort within your flesh prison as long as you remain on this mortal coil. read more

Dr. Murray is the only Chiropractor I have ever used, so I'll admit I don't have the most comprehensive frame of reference, but I cannot imagine there is anyone better. He has helped me with neck, back, leg, foot, and shoulder injuries. And not just minor ones. The first time I saw him, I had most likely partially herniated a disc in my back only 36 hours prior, and I was in constant pain. Dr. Murray helped guide me through the entire recovery process, and in the 18 months since my back has been problem free. I have enthusiastically recommended him to my coworkers and friends. I'm a pretty skeptical person by nature, and lot of folks look at me sideways when I mention that I've seen a "chiropractor." And I'm sure, as with any profession, there are in fact some unsavory characters out there. But Dr. Murray is the polar opposite. If you listen to him, you will get better. I was frankly pretty scared the first time I showed up to get treated. I literally hobbled from my apartment several blocks, and hoped that this man would be able to provide me some kind of relief. Literally anything. I hope I never have to be in that kind of pain again. Dr. Murray examined me and told me that I had to rest more before he could treat me, least he aggravate my very recent injury. I really didn't want to listen to him, but I did, and it could not have turned out better. I went back for several weeks for treatment twice a week, and I was able to resume going to CrossFit. Mike speaks slowly at times, but I like to think this reflects his deliberate, measured, and highly effective approach to treatment. All five stars. Why ? Dr. Mike got magic hands. I totally busted my right ankle in a kit surfing accident about six years ago. Everything ripped, torn, busted - tendons shortened. You get the picture... I went to a bunch of doctors who basically all shook their heads and said 'well - surgery is the only way - but you are going to be on crutches for a while'. That was not really an option therefore I just hobbled around, which also messed up my crossfit game. In comes Dr. Mike. One session. No more pain walking. Two sessions. No more pain working out / doing crossfit. Yep. The man is THAT good. Better believe the hype. What also helps is that Mike understands that 'just don't move it' is not an option for active people like me. I started going to Dr. Mike for treatments two years ago when I threw out my neck. I've been susceptible to neck stiffness since childhood and have seen many PT's, chiropractors and massage therapists over the years. After the first visit with Dr. Mike - he did an adjustment and tissue massage (myofascial) on my neck - I felt much better, and after the second I was nearly 100%. I've continued seeking treatment from Dr. Mike for adjustments and I really enjoy his method of healing. His philosophy about locating and treating the source "the core" of any ailment is unlike most doctors who just focus on the condition or injury (quick fixes). Dr. Mike takes a lot of time to understand and explain why the injury may have happened in the first place, and then he'll give exercises and recommendations for you to work on to prevent it from happening again. Other injuries I've seen Dr. Mike for have been a sprained ankle, and metatarsal (bones in foot) injuries from kickboxing and years of walking in bad shoes! As long as you are willing to do the exercises Dr. Mike suggests and believe in a less "mainstream" medical approach, you will definitely notice an improvement in how you feel, breathe and live! read more

Dr. Mike was able to help me improve motion in my knee after a sports injury. He explained what was going on and what was causing the problem in terms that I could understand. He is professional, a patient and attentive listener, and he takes his time. His "office" is in a gym, which at first I was a little nervous about, but it's very comfortable. After breast cancer surgery (mastectomy) I could barely raise my arms over my head, there was so much scar tissue in my chest that movement was completely restricted. I heard massage and ART could possibly help, so I figured I would give it a try. Hands down Dr. Mike is the best at his craft and I will forever be a patient of his. Being an active Muay Thai fighter I went to him looking for a solution for my lower back pain (3 herniated disks, 2 bulging.) My very first session he made me try to touch my toes and I couldn't get past my knees and after treatment I was able to go six inches lower. This may not seem like much, but as someone who was suffering 24/7 from pain it was a major improvement. Through steady treatment, three weeks later my back was better than ever, fighting the following month winning by KO in the second. Dr. Mike has also helped me come back from a partial tear of my MCL and Plantar fasciitis. I will stand by his treatment 150% and have recommended a number of my training partners and family for treatment, with them having equal success. I came to Dr Murray for severe leg stiffness and pain caused by a muscle tear playing recreational basketball. In clear and understandable language he explained to me the underlying cause (adhesions) and his method for breaking down adhesions and monitoring progress between visits. I found his methods to be smart and objective. Over the 5-6 weeks I treated with him I noticed more flexibility and range of motion and also reduced pain. Very disappointed - I've waited for a month to cool down before writing a review, but feel like future patients should know about my experience. I've periodically been seeing chiropractors and osteopaths for the past 20 years due to a back condition that cannot be fully treated. Recently moved to the neighborhood and found this dr on yelp - Reviews looked great and I was expecting a doctor that would focus on fixing both short term syndromes (more chiro) and addressing longer term treatment (more osteopath and lifestyle coaching) For $150, I got 30 mn of obvious statements on lifestyle, such as stress is a strong root cause of back pbs, eating organic, and low carb will be helpful, and I should avoid sodas (talking to a European guy leaving in Bklyn, he probably could have adapted his general speech...). After long wait listening to obvious yet trying to be polite, Dr finally looked at my posture and instead of a mix of osteopathic and chiropractic movements to give me back some mobility on the back, the sacrum, and the neck, I got a nice 15 mn cervical massage stretching muscles but nothing more and I left with the exact pain and lack of mobility I had in all 3 places. What was supposed to be 60-90 mn session when we spoke on the phone turned our to be 45 mn, probably because the next appointment arrived early. When I realized we were close to the end of the session, The reason I didn't ask for more chiro to fix short term posture issue (lack of spine mobility) is because with all that I didn't feel dr was comfortable enough doing chiro movements on the spine. Which is a shame... I'm not an all chiro / crack your bones type of guy, but after 20 years, I know you need both muscle stretch and chiro... A little bit lore focus on short term fixing while working on the long term fix wouldn't do much harm. Wasted an hour and $150. Disappointing. read more

My CF coach directed me to Dr. Mike after I experienced pain in my hips and my outer quad. I was losing mobility in squatting on my left side and I also had an annoying chronic sciatic nerve issue. I started an intensive twice a week treatment with Dr. Mike as he went to town on the adhesions. He instructed me on various exercises and rest between appointments and guided me on the path to restored mobility and decreased pain. The sciatic nerve issue completely resolved and I regained my full squatting ability after about 12 sessions. I highly recommend Dr. Mike and will continue to use his services.
