Although the Stapley location is nearby my house, the service and the food comes out insanely quick. This is also a bigger location and much more open seating. The al pastor here is always a good choice. I'm still shocked at how fast the food came out when I ordered because I barely sat down before my number was called. Maybe it's worth it driving an extra 15 minutes because I'll be honest it's really slow on the other location so I'm happy to say keep up the good pace. read more

Three stars for the food and one extra for COVID policies. The patio was well spaced out and I felt quite safe. The order line required masks as well. I had the tacos and wife had the tostado. We've come here 4 times so far, and every time we do, the food has always been just okay. The last time we came, I brought my mother since she has been wanting to go forever. We decided to just get our food to go since she gets a little uncomfortable around a lot of people. I asked the cashier NOT to open my bottled Sprite since we were going to eat at home, she opened it anyway. It was fine, not a big deal. They called our number, we went up, assumed napkins and sauces would be in the bag since they didn't say a single word to us, just handed us the bag. Four stars only because we ate inside and dealt with pesky flies. Crazy potato with carne asada is so crazy good. Comes in a cup and filled with baked potato, carne, butter and sour cream, a little bit of onion and cabbage. Partner had the grilled Gordita with birria which was also fantastic! The masa grilled perfectly and the birria was rich, saucy, and so flavorful with a smokey note. Not spicy at all. Great crispy chips and their salsa is flavorful and little heat. I enhanced the smooth guacamole with a bit of lime and salt, which is what it needed. This is our second time here and we will definitely be back when out on this side of the east valley! We came in for lunch around 2pm I have to honestly say that we weren't impressed at all the salsa bar was dirty, the asada was as dry as beef jerky on the tacos and there was alot of flies buzzing around the dinning area that didn't sit well with me at all plus it was over priced for dry meat in a tortilla. read more

This was my first & last time at Backyard Taco! I ordered online & picked up the food inside the restaurant. When I got home I found that the portions were small, the taste of the food was mediocre at best, & the tortilla on the gordita was hard to bite into, as well as excessively greasy. I just love the grilled chicken tostada from BT. I don't even look at the menu anymore - just get me two!!! The shell has the right amount of crunch, the chicken always tastes fresh. So since I was finishing up some errands on that end of town, I swung through the drive thru for some "Linner!" This visit I also ordered the bean & chips which were tasty. I like that they offer the burritos as low carb bowl style. Again, I'm a huge fan of their chicken so my next visit I'll get the chicken bowl style as I've never had it before. Great tacos..great service! The taco bar where you can put your chosen toppings, from sauce to pickled onions, is top notch.

I'd give it five but there are a few things I think they could improve. The great: The tacos. Uncomplicated, authentic street tacos with as many housemade salsa's/toppings you could imagine. The diet coke. ;) hey, it's important to me. The simple/cool atmosphere. A lot of community tables and plenty of outdoor seating. The needs improvement: Customer service. I went back and forth with this one. Honestly, I don't go to restaurants for the customer service, BUT when it's great i'm more inclined to love the restaurant and go back. It shows you care. I didn't see one smile or friendlier than normal face from any of the 11 employees I could see. They could improve if you're into customer service. The lighting. It had potential to be great but the cafeteria style bulbs overpowered the cool artistic lighting. The chips. They were great but needed more oomph with salt/ flavor. Would I be back again? Been a fan of BT for a long time. This was our first time visiting the newer location in Gilbert. THE GOOD - The building is big, bright and beautiful. So much more elbow room. Service was fast and everyone in our party of 5 enjoyed the taste of the tacos, particularly the chicken and al pastor. THE BAD - Steak quesadilla was basically a ton of grease and bland meat inside a tortilla. It dripped a giant puddle of grease onto my plate and I didn't really taste anything like cheese. They also got one of my tacos wrong, but quickly and happily replaced it - no problem. MUY MALO - It was a Saturday night, so expected it to be busy and hectic, but the table we found was a total wreck. Food/trash on the seats and on the floor underneath. I saw a cleaning person and asked, "excuse me" to get her attention. She turned around in full snarl mode and answered me with a loud, "WHAT???". I was shocked. Rude. I asked her if she could clean our table and after about 5 minutes, she came over and wiped the top off. She was already starting to walk away, when I pointed out there was still food and trash on the floor. She went for a broom, swept one side, then just walked off. Is it so hard to get a clean table? The owner lady (I believe), came over right after and finished cleaning the area herself, which was very nice of her. So, all in all, we would have had an ok time if it wasn't for Miss Sassy-pants who couldn't be bothered to tidy up a bit. That, and my girlfriend ended up getting pretty sick from the food. Think we will stick to the original location from now on. Never have had a problem there. read more

Terrible food. There was not enough condiments in the world to make up for the taste of the food I bought there. I'm going to try a different location Tried the location off the 60 by the AMC, good lord there was so much grease in the food, I'm certain it had more grease in the food than grease in my car. What I'm disappointed in is everyone else working there. They where standing around and jgnroning customers. I asked for salsa and the gal went to grab it. Instead of grabbing it and walking 3 feet back to me to hand it to me, she went over to the drive through to loudly gossip to her "friends" that where working. We came here a visiting Arizona and we're here for a good taco Tuesday place, this place was recommended to us. I was really disappointed with their crazy potato it was very bland no salt because they food process a lot of the cabbage and onions it's very water-based like they drained it, so it pulled a lot of great flavors of the meat. the beans were very bland nearly had to put a whole packet of salt to give it flavor. I would say for what you're paying for it's not all that... highly disappointed, the meat tasted I like it was cooked in the used oil or been the frigerator to long... Meat didn't tastes fresh,but I will say the service was fast .they don't offer you any kind of salsa's especially if you like hot sauce even if you're telling them that you're brand-new maybe there are other things that the restaurant mat offer but you're really going to have to really ask them. read more

So I heard the hype about this place... that when it first started (hence the name) that it was literally a back yard operation that got so good that the neighbors made it move out. I heard that when it opened there was a line out the door. Etc. To make it short... I have absolutely no idea what the hype is or if I got some bad hype info. A quick review would be - no character and no flavor. Between the wife and I we ordered four things off the menu. We weren't impressed with any of it. No flavor (maybe some, but I've had better at home out of a packet) - this goes for the meats especially. The most flavor I got was from the potatoes oddly enough. I'm not going to count the sauces as that isn't what you're paying for. I honestly think that I can make better food and I'm far, far removed from culinary excellency. The service sucked. We had never been here and the gal at the counter seemed totally annoyed at our questions. And when it was time to sign she wanted us to sign with no pen. We asked for one and she didn't hear us. When she realized we didn't sign she again seemed annoyed. Point is she was too busy talking to other people and/or daydreaming. Soda was flat - I told them and they kind of looked at me like they didn't understand. Speed of service. The food came out in like 1 minute. So that is good, but I think it kind of speaks to the bland taste as it is all mass prepared and just tossed out the window with no regard to flavoring. The main concern is - is it hot? If the answer is yes, then give it to the customer. I'd like to think that it was an off night but I have the strong feeling it was not. I'd like to give it a second chance but I don't think it is worth the drive nor the price to give it another go. I sure hope that whatever backyard operation gave birth to this had more concern to the quality of food than what I experienced tonight. read more
