Al Pastor tacos on corn tortillas
    Christine T.

Backyard Tacos really hits the spot when I am craving tacos. My go-to is the Al Pastor tacos. You can choose between flour or corn tortillas. They're small like street taco sized tortillas. Each taco comes with two tortillas - just one is not a strong enough structure to hold up all of the meat. Al Pastor is topped with chopped onions and cilantro. So if you don't like either of those toppings, make sure to tell them when you're ordering at the counter. There is a condiment station where you can grab a variety of different sauces. I love their Jalapeño sauce - in this recent trip the sauce was extra spicy! Sometimes my family will order a Papa Loca with Al Pastor. It means "crazy potato", and it's not at all crazy - just delicious! It's loaded with meat, butter, sour cream, and cheese. The price depends on what meat you choose. On a separate occasion, I've tried a Bueno Bowl with Al Pastor, which comes with Mexican rice and whole pinto beans. It was good, but I find myself wanting the tacos more. The restaurant is clean with plenty of tables inside and on the patio. The food comes out pretty quickly, and everything always tastes fresh. Tip: If you get chips & salsa or chips & beans when dining in, you get free refills on the chips.

The family wanted a quick dinner tonight, so we stopped by Backyard Taco since we were in the area. The restaurant was clean, and the condiment station was well stocked. We arrived a little before 7 p.m. The drive-thru line was long, but there was no wait inside. I usually order the Al Pastor tacos, but tonight I decided to try the tostada with Al Pastor. I'm used to tostadas with just beans and cheese, but this one was loaded with meat (no beans)! The food was fresh and made to order. Next time I will try the tostada with just beans and cheese. Tip: Grilled onions and jalapeños are free on the side, but you have to ask for them when you order.

Just stopped by Backyard Taco in Gilbert. I ordered the 2 chicken taco plate and a chicken bowl, both were packed with flavour. The meat was juicy, well-seasoned and fresh off the grill. The bill was around $25 with a drink. What I really loved was the casual, indoor and outdoor vibe. It's perfect for a quick bite. Felt more like an office cafeteria. Plus, the salsa bar is a game-changer, I loaded up with fresh pico, spicy salsas, and lime. My tips: * Don't skip the salsa bar, customizing your tacos makes the whole experience better. This is one of those places I'll keep coming back to when I'm craving real, no-fuss street tacos. So good!

My family and I visited Backyard Taco for a late dinner on a Friday in January. It was one of the few places still open after 9 pm. This Backyard Taco is located near Agritopia and offers ample parking, but it might be challenging during peak hours. The restaurant is large and spacious. The patio is also large and equipped with heaters, which was nice during our visit. We were greeted right way. The staff behind the counter was very helpful as we asked many questions. My guys ordered burritos and chips and beans without cheese. I had already eaten dinner, so I only sampled the beans and chips. The beans were tasty, although I would have preferred them with cheese, despite our choice to exclude it. I look forward to returning to explore more of their menu offerings!

    Carne Asada "Quesadilla"

It was a busy Saturday with lots a families. We can with a big group before the dinner rush and people kept trying to take our tables and chairs. The food was pretty okay and the serving sizes were nice but I as super disappointed in the quesadilla. There was little no cheese. I expect a quesadilla not to be able to open due to the amount of cheese holding it together. The cup of birria was plenary but did not have the same effect with the lack of cheese. The quesadilla is more like a giant taco in my opinion.

The food here was amazing. I haven't had great tacos in a while and these hit the spot. We ordered a family pack of barbacoa and al pastor tacos. The barbacoa meat was great and flavorful. The al pastor meat was on another level. It was so tender and juicy and seasoned so well. There were chunks of pineapple in the meat for a hint of sweet and sour with the meat. The meat was chopped up super small too which I like for these style of tacos. The flour tortillas were grilled on both sides and fluffy. The searing area has an indoor and outdoor section. We sat outdoors in the winter but they heat it up for you. A lot of seats so it's not too crowded. Service is self-service. They make the tacos for you but you grab your own condiments. There are so many condiments and salsas to choose from. On top of all that, it's very affordable and they do taco Tuesday deals.

Was in the mood for a nice good juicy fat burrito. What I was met wit was a small dry bad burrito. I ordered a carne asada burrito. The meat had no flavor and was dry. I've also never heard of having to pay for cheese to be in a burrito.... Shouldn't it come wit cheese? I'm from Cali and any burrito has cheese so I'm just confused. I was also very sad to hear they didn't have any French fries.. for $15 this burrito was not good at all. The EXTRA ADD ON didn't even look like they put much in it. There was barely any rice and any cheese. The cheese was all at at bottom and rice was dry and all clumped together. I was really excited to eat before I had to go to work and was very disappointed wit the food here. The burrito was literally filled wit jus meat. Don't get me wrong I love good meat portion but the ratio of meat to other things in the burrito was VERY OFF.

Ask the Community - Backyard Taco

Do they have a taco Tuesday?? If so what time and what are specials

    Yes. Tuesday. $1.95 tacos

    Is the patio pet friendly?

I have seen pets out there, but not recently. It’s so hot.

Do they use msg in any products?

I don't know their full ingredients list, but it is not a common addition to Mexican food as far as I know. Their "backyard" roots tell me that they probably stick with what you'd use at home.

When will the drive thru open?

The drive-through is officially open! I just went there and got some taco Tuesday tacos

Parking was a breeze, and since there were three of us (including one never-full teenager ), we went for the Mexi-Q Platter and added an extra birria taco so everyone could try one. It absolutely lived up to the hype! The surprise standout? The brisket tostada--sooooo flavorful and satisfying on every level! We also loved the sausage link, Mexi-Q twinkies (aka smoked jalapeños stuffed with brisket and cream cheese, then wrapped in bacon ), and honestly, everything we tried was a hit. For sides, we ordered Grandma's Calabacitas (a yummy squash veggie mix), roasted cream elote, and Julio's mac n' cheese (which I skipped, but the guys were big fans). We wrapped up this phenomenal meal with their GF banana pudding (they offer both GF and regular options), and it was seriously scrumptious--such a treat to have a gluten-free dessert that feels just as special! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and attentive. They double-checked that everything we ordered (minus the mac n' cheese) was gluten-free, which is always such a relief. It means so much when a place truly understands gluten and can clearly guide you on what's safe. We sat outside and soaked up the beautiful weather--it was the perfect setting for such a fun and tasty meal! An easily awarded and well deserved

While working in the area of course I hot up my Yelp app...... 2 miles up the road I see this place listed, I click...... and I see a couple reviews from a few of my Yelp friends Derrick & Art. Well, after reading Derrick's review, which is EXCELLENT BTW, I was i may give to go here, then saw Art's endorsement & I was sold! Upon arrival, the parking lot is small, instant anxiety that the place is packed! NOPE.. Just a small lot to park, so food a spot & get here NOW! There's a bunch of Coveted outside seating, clean place, inside is cute & inviting. They jam country too... Approached the counter meet Brian F., this dude rocks! Often I will tell the place I'm visiting that I'm a rookie, must say thanks & ask what I want, not Brian F. he is real friendly. Brian F. said let me grab you a sample Brisket too help you decide... I mentioned i was torn between Brisket & Birria, so Brian F. said "get both! ", he recommends the Birria & Briaket for a 1st timer, I replied, LFG! Give me 2 of each, Brian replied "what about a twinkie? Having grown up during the Twinkie heyday, I was confused & not real interested... Brian F pulled out a Twinkie....
