[[HIGHLIGHT]]If I could rate Backyard's ambiance and commitment to the FIFA/sports experience 100000/10, I absolutely would. The concept is so well done, it feels like you're sitting in a lush outdoor backyard patio, but you're actually inside a massive, air-conditioned space with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, panoramic views, and TVs in every direction. The energy during a game is unmatched, and it's easily one of the coolest sports bars I've been to.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was great too. We ordered the Buffalo Grilled Chicken Pizza along with a few beers, and everything hit the spot. They also offer beer pitchers, which is perfect if you're coming with a larger group. That said, the prices were definitely on the higher side, and the service was painfully slow. We waited almost 45 minutes for our pizza, which took away from the overall experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]For the vibes alone, I'd come back in a heartbeat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But between the steep prices and slow service, I can't give it more than 3/5 stars. If they improve those two things, this place would be an easy favorite.

Came here to catch the USA/Bosnia match. Our first experience here back when they first opened wasn't great because the food wasn't up to par, but after hearing they had a new menu, we decided to give them a second chance. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe was great and our server was wonderful, but the management practices here are incredibly dishonest and frustrating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When the bill came, I realized my beers were marked up $2 each over the menu price. When I questioned it, I was told there was a surcharge for the game. The staff claimed there was a sign at the door and that guests were being verbally warned. None of this happened. The line to get in was so long you couldn't see the host stand, our server never warned us, and the friends who arrived before us never heard a word about it either. Funnily enough, I was the only person at our table who actually got charged this fee. When I brought the manager over to sort it out, she didn't seem to care. She first blamed a "system glitch," then pivoted to arguing that it was a "bigger game" so a surcharge applied. Then, in a complete shift of logic, she tried to claim that they had actually undercharged me for my potato skins, so I was "already getting a discount." It was an insulting attempt to brush me off, and they just took a random $3 off the bill to get me to go away. When we actually checked the front entrance for this "sign" on our way out, it was written in barely legible red chalk on a blackboard, stating only that there may be a surcharge--with absolutely no details on how much or on what items. We actually had tables already reserved to return here this coming Monday, but we will be cancelling them immediately. Instead of doing the right thing and fixing their mistake, the manager doubled down and argued with me. It's not about the money; it's about the principle. They blew their second chance with us. Sneaking random upcharges onto the bill and then fighting a returning customer about it is terrible business. I can't even imagine how much they are making off these secret charges! Won't be back.

We were so excited when Backyard opened in Desert Ridge because this area really needs a casual, family friendly sports bar. It has such great potential with the huge TVs everywhere, lots of seating, and space for kids to wiggle. Unfortunately our experiences have been consistently disappointing. The biggest issue has always been the service. Almost every visit has involved very slow service and long waits. A few times we watched the hostess stand with multiple open tables available while people waited with no explanation as to why no one was being seated. At first we gave them grace because they were newly opened and figured they just needed time to work out the kinks, but years later it honestly has not improved much. They have updated and expanded the menu over time, which was definitely needed because the original menu lacked variety for this type of restaurant. My kids do enjoy the pizza, so that has been one positive for us. Unfortunately the food has been hit or miss for us. We ordered the Backyard nachos without meat on one visit. They use more of a liquid nacho cheese instead of melted shredded cheese. Shortly after eating them I became extremely sick and had to leave before my entree came. I assumed it was just a random stomach bug. Then months later my husband ordered the exact same nachos, again without meat, and about 20 minutes later became very nauseous and got sick at the restaurant. Nobody else in either group got sick, but after two separate incidents tied to the same dish it definitely left us uncomfortable ordering certain foods there. I do not eat meat, so I have wondered if there is some sort of animal fat or ingredient in the cheese or preparation that did not sit well with me. Another frustrating experience involved drink charges. A friend ordered a vodka with grapefruit juice and was charged not only for the cocktail but also an additional $3 just for the grapefruit juice. Our group thought that was excessive. We have also heard similar complaints from other friends about unexpected extra charges appearing on bills with drinks. It's a bummer because Backyard could be such a great spot. The atmosphere is fun, the kids enjoy it, and there honestly aren't many places with better TVs for watching sports. We just wish the service and food experiences matched the potential of the place.

Came by on a Tuesday with a decent sized group. Had some tables reserved so seating wasn't an issue. Started ordering as soon as we sat down. Menus were straightforward. Started with the huge sample platter, multiple wing varieties, sticky ribs, tater skins, and numerous pizza pies. Orders came out pretty quick and were decently done. Typical bar food. Sticky ribs and wings were the crowd favorites. The Brookie dessert was how we closed out our meal. Wasn't bad. Host kept things lively as there were trivia and bingo games with nice prizes. Our waitress came by every so often to check on us and kept our drinks full. Not a bad choice if you needed to quick place for a large group.

So, the review is for the mismanagement and miscommunication on their end and for keeping me waiting for a response on the critical day when the USA is playing a Round of 32 game. When I called them yesterday (June 30), the person who called herself a host didn't share a single detail about the minimum spend inside or outside, and all of a sudden, just to get a table, they introduced new rates ($400 for inside and $250 for outside). When I called the restaurant today (July 1) at 11:55 AM, the person speaking with me confirmed that she would text or call me within an hour to let me know whether the reservation was confirmed. Since they did not communicate with me, I called again at 2:29 PM. After spending 13 minutes on the call, the manager (?) told me that I had to pay for the table. Their unethical behavior and unprofessional service led to me missing reservations at other places that were not charging any upfront money, while I stayed committed to watching the US game. I am definitely never going to this place, and I will also let my coworkers know about this experience.

We visited over the weekend and really enjoyed our experience. The atmosphere was wonderful, and the service was exceptional, Jordan was one of the best servers we've had in a very long time. While the food was average, we'd definitely return for the great vibe and the ability to bring our dog inside to relax and enjoy the AC with us.

Came in after doing the Sip and Stroll at Desert Ridge. This place is HUGE with tons of seating options. We grabbed a shaded spot on the patio. Spa Water - Tito's, cucumber, lime, simple, soda water Hubby loved it. I didn't try it because I'm not a cucumber person. Tee Time - Crown Royal Peach, lemon, simple, unsweetened tea I'm a sweet-tea kinda gal, but this was actually pretty nice. The lemon and peach make it feel summery, even though it's November in Phoenix. Cinnamon Toast Crunch Shot - Fireball + RumChata These should be illegal. They are SO good. Poolside Punch - chili mango rum, triple sec, OJ, lime, simple Tropical and tasty, but we make almost the exact same drink at home. Spinach & Artichoke Dip - Do. Not. Order. Super runny, basically tastes like warm milk with a little shaky parmesan. The baked flatbread is good on its own but terrible as a dipping option--it just turns soggy and falls apart. You can't get any actual dip on it without it sliding right off. Really disappointing start, especially because this came out way before our drinks (which we ordered at the same time). The manager offered a substitution, so we swapped it for the pretzel. Bavarian Pretzel Over-the-top presentation that didn't match the actual quality. Pretzel itself was good--nice salt, good bake. But the dipping sauces were a letdown. Queso was basic food-service, and the honey mustard, while tasty, is absolutely not the right mustard for a pretzel. Give me a spicy whole-grain mustard and we'd be talking. As-is... meh. By the time our second round of drinks took nearly 20 minutes to arrive, we decided to skip ordering any entrées. Overall: Fantastic service, decent drinks, but the food was a major disappointment. With so many better options nearby, we probably won't be back.

A great sports bar if you're in the search for one! As soon as I walked in, I was amazed by the huge tv screens and character of this sports bar. On the right side, there's an old-fashioned car and vibrant, image-plastered walls. They also had a live DJ in the back who played bangers during commercial breaks. There's lots of natural lighting from huge garage-looking doors, which I heard they open for a nice cool-down during evenings. It was super busy and lively when we arrived. Tiana was our server and was very nice and attentive. They have a very extensive drink and food menu. The espresso martini was one of my favorite espresso martini's I've ordered! Very sweet tho (to my liking). I got the backyard burger, which was okay. I was hoping it was a little more spicy, even though it did have a grilled jalapeño. My partner got the chicken sandwich, and while it was good, he also thought that the honey mustard sauce was interesting and was willing to try something else on the menu when we return. My partner's brother got the Hawaiian pizza, which he liked. It was a decent serving for the price. I think it's decently priced/on par with other restaurants in the area. I do like that they give you a pretty decent serving of crispy, crinkle-cut fries! They were delicious.

Stopped in this afternoon w best friend, "Need a bib" and my niece, her husband, and their youngest son. Pet friendly, and lots of furry four-legged pups frolicking. Happy hour, at least during weekdays, is from 3 to 6. Certain drinks and appys reduced. A cool vibe. With numerous big screen TVs, some of which are GINORMOUS! Three of us ordered shaved steak sandwiches, one a wedge salad w chicken, and one a sausage/ pepperoni pizza. Service was exceptional. Madison was attentive, efficient, and friendly. I polled everyone. The consensus was the ambiance and service rated a 5. But to us, the food was just ok. The cheese on the steak sandwiches seemed (and tasted) like melted Cheese Whiz. For $19, the Back Yard needs to up its game. A bit noisy and not the kind of place to bring a date. Good hangout for friends after work for a few drinks and some apps. In general, prices a bit higher than what I'm used to. Last, my friend, NAB... could not determine the sources of the multiple stains on his shirt. Take your pick among salad dressing, cheese whiz, steak drippings. Maybe all the sbove. 4 stars

What a cool spot! I love that you can bring your dog inside. Such a rare find, especially in Arizona. The entire staff was so welcoming and seemed to genuinely love dogs, which made the experience even better. We ordered the ribs, chicken wings, potato skins, and a burger. The burger was fantastic and reminded me a lot of In N Out in the best way. The wings were good, just a bit on the sweeter side than I prefer. I wasn't a fan of the Korean-style sauce on the ribs, but the ribs themselves were still tasty. The potato skins were more like loaded baked potatoes, which I actually really enjoyed. I can already tell this will be a regular spot for us during those miserably hot summer months. Great food, air conditioning, and my dog gets some mental stimulation too. Win win! read more

This is tough because I don't know the hiring situation. They could be short staffed but I do the rule of 3...... don't judge them on 1x or 2x go 3x and then write the review. I have been there 6x and every time I say I'm not coming back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The TVs are great so it makes it great to watch games[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], but any sort of big game you can never walk in and get a table always needs a reservation. I was excited to watch the World Cup USA game but everything is reserved so I stood, no big deal. The service is just so slow, they seemed to have 6 bartenders but just like every other busy time I have gone. The service is horrible, the job looks stressful because the staff is so unfriendly. They do not smile or make you feel welcome at all. They are annoyed you're ordering a 25 dollar drink. I'll go back if it's not a big game but if it is any kind of big game ? Prepare yourself for long waits at the bar. Nh comments seem pretty consistent but it's close and tourists go when in town so they can get away with horrible service to out of towners. This is a sports bar. A huge sports bar with tables where people can sit down. It's like you're in your own backyard. But you're actually in an air-conditioned environment. Big screen TVs are every direction you look with lovely bright colored picnic tables and chairs. Unfortunately, this was our first time there and we didn't know what to expect. It's not the place for a two year-old. My two-year-old granddaughter was with us. We were just looking to have a hamburger in a nice upscale restaurant. It's extremely loud so be prepared for that. (Not an upscale restaurant but nice none the less.) If I had known, this was a sports bar we would not have gone with a two-year-old. Service was OK, a little bit slow. Food was ok. Not enough fries with hamburgers. Our food server seemed to be disappointed because we weren't ordering any alcohol. We asked for lemon water. Also known as agua fresca water. It appears that that's where their sales or tips come from. When I got the bill, the lowest tip on there is 20%. This place is not worth 20%. And the way our food server acted, no way was she worth 20%. I had to go looking for her to get our final bill. We must've sat for an additional 20 minutes after we finished eating waiting for her pass so we could flag her down for the bill. I finally had to go to the cashiers station to get the bill. Our server also seem to be seriously distracted. Not sure why but this looks like a place where you could make really good tips if you just paid attention to your customers. maybe she had too many tables to take care of. I don't know. But I think when you leave your people alone and don't even bother to check on them, they've been there over 30 minutes yeah that's not customer service worth 20%. I don't understand why restaurants don't teach and put an emphasis on their food servers that their tip is based on their presentation, their friendliness and attentiveness to the table not on what the restaurant thinks they should get. (Former food server/waitress of 40 years) Would I ever go there again? Probably not because the bar scene is not my forte nor do I get the thrill of watching sports teams compete. I think it's a great place for men to go if they want to watch their favorite football basketball whatever. Have a couple drinks appetizers hamburger whatever. But definitely not for a family with small children. It's just too loud in there and too distracting for children. But hey, each of their own. read more

I really wanted to like this place but every time I have gone to enjoy a meal or drinks here the service completely ruins it. The food is just okay. The one thing it has going for it is that the vibe is great! I love the live music, the high energy but unfortunately when your service is consistently terrible I have zero interest in returning. Just for an overall example... several times I would have stayed longer and enjoyed more drinks but the servers are more interested in talking amongst each other than they are about checking on their tables. No sense of urgency. read more

Football Sunday. This place has it all. Games, atmosphere, good food and staff that are just awesome. Been coming here since this season started. ADDISON consistently forgot about our table once we were moved to her section. She charged us twice and even got the bill wrong. We disputed the transactions with the bank since although she corrected the bill, it was still wrong. She never apologized or accepted responsibility instead we were met with a rude indifference. We usually have a great experience with the waiters there so if you get her switch try to a different section. read more

I organize various friends birthday parties and we choose a different venue all the time. I had never been to the backyard in desert Ridge and thought it was a nice casual choice for 10 of us gals to have a happy hour and a bite to eat. I have to admit I started out with low expectations, but right from the moment I got Ashley on the phone to make a reservation, I was impressed! Her attitude was fantastic. She was bubbly and happy, and that was a great start. We arrived there and got taken to our table and the most happy lovely cutest waitress ever, Tiona looked after us in a better fashion than a five star restaurant! All the staff I had interaction with were fabulous! The drinks were great, the prices were great, the food was ok and a great time was had by us gals celebrating!! Thank you Backyard!! Had dinner here w/ family tonight. Interesting sports bar vibe mixed with massive TV's, indoor games like corn hole and jenga, and 2 massive bars! Food was typical bar food with some twists. We all had a mixture of nachos, their special sandwich - smoked beef w/ cheese sauce and horsey sauce, hamburgers, mac and cheese and a mix of salads. Went on a Thursday around 3pm. It was moderately busy, we were seated right away and helped quickly which was nice. The restaurant is huge!!!! Much bigger than I thought. The doors were closed almost all the way, but we did get a good breeze inside. I love the ambiance and giant TVs! Will definetly come back for a baseball game! The food was decent, nothing exciting. They definitely need a happy hour menu printed. We asked what was happy hour and one item was on it, when we got our bill, it was not correctly priced. When I asked our server about it, it sounded as if she knew there was an error, but didn't fix it. It was just odd. We came here on a very busy weekend during March Madness and it was buzzing! They have done a good job of making a large space feel like a fun backyard. Lots of lawn chairs and games. Very large screens in the middle of the restaurant and then smaller ones in other spots. The bar by the door had numerous televisions so all spots are good spots. Dogs were even allowed. We were told there was a 3 hour wait to get a table although we could see empty tables. Unfortunately the high tops by the bar area are not serviced by the bar and are saved for reservations. We did stand by the bar for awhile and we got lucky when three people left and we had seats. Everyone behind the bar was friendly and working hard. Our drinks and food arrived quickly, especially considering how busy it was. Normal bar food menu. We ordered crispy wings and nachos and both were tasty and had a nice presentation. The nachos came topped with fresh avocado. Delish! Beer was around $7.00 each and nachos were $17.49 for a generous portion. Great atmosphere and a fun time here. read more

Met up with family here for dinner and we didn't start off great.... Our hostess sat us down and gave us the lunch menu. She didn't say who our server would be and just left. Not very friendly or professional.... We waited for 20 minutes before our server came. The hostess failed to let the server know that they sat a table outside of their dedicated area. Which I do not blame the server for but the hostess failed their job. After we got our server she was very nice and apologized for the confusion. She was attentive and got our order right and our food came out pretty fast. I ordered the southwest Cobb and it was okay. The dressing not good and the shrimp was plain even though there were spices on them. If I ever go back I would order only drinks and appetizers. Cut this place some slack...they are newer and figuring out their space. My husband, daughter (11), and I liked our experience here. There's big TVs everywhere, interactive games, and music at a good level. Looked like a band was setting up when we left, so check for live music too. Very cute decor - makes you feel like you're in your aunt's backyard. Our server was sweet, friendly, and attentive...service was great! The food was good...I had the turkey melt minus the jam, hubby had the omelet, and daughter had French toast. The food isn't going to win any awards but there was a nice variety to choose from. This is a concept coming from EEG & mimics their location in TX. Formerly a Sandbar and looks to "set the bar high" as an elevated entertainment spot. The atmosphere is super inviting. Open-air recreation complex which hosts a few huge L.E.D LARGE screens, many flat screen TV's sounding both bars & state-of-the-art lighting from cool palms to the DJ's facade booth. Menu offering creative comfort foods such as bugers, bbq, sandwiches, salads mex and more. Pair your food with over 45 beers including craft beers, elegant cocktails & wine served at two different bars plus a dog-friendly outdoor patio with plenty of turf & an area for your fur babies to explore and play. In our party we started with the Nachos. Fresh made chips in-house with a wonderful cheese sauce, but what made them even better was the pickled chilies, roasted tomatoes & charred jalapeño crema. Also got the potato skins which come with a beautiful braised beef short-rib, caramelized onion, cheddar & Guinness gravy. More of a "poutine style" potato skin, but good. Other orders included: Meatloaf Loco Moco which was a generous portion and is prepared with a thick slice of pan-seared meatloaf, two over-easy eggs, rice, fried onions & a black pepper gravy. Excellent! Cinnamon French Toast is a sweet dish made up of brioche, whipped cream, candied bacon, walnuts, maple syrup which made for a delightful dish. Service and staff were on point. Not sure what to say here. They advertised a shuttle to the a Phoenix Open. We paid $40 because we liked their early shuttle time. They had a HUGE bus and we were the only patrons. We paid $40 and that included breakfast and a drink. Our sever was absolutely lovely they are lucky to have her. The food was decent. Here's the kicker, when he dropped us off at the Phoenix Open, he let us know there was no return trip. We had to get an uber. We usually go to The Vig for a round trip shuttle for FREE, but tried this instead. Only posting this so anyone in the future knows NOT to do this. read more

Backyard hang out with friends, but make it indoors All of us locals have been awaiting the opening of The Backyard at Desert Ridge. We've watched it rebrand from the old Sandbar to this new bigger building right off Tatum, plus their marketing has been pretty good. Now it is here and has opened to some disappointment and bad reviews. It was heavily marketed as a place to bring your dogs, but that area has been behind in constructi and so only service dogs are allowed currently. The menu is still limited as well, so there is lots of room for improvement when they release the full menu. I still have hope that they will work out the kinks, and it will become a fun local spot. I reserved online a couple of weeks in advance for a party of eight. It's nice that they allowed to book that many whereas lots of restaurants allow to book up to only 5 without calling. The problem is that when I realized more were joining our party, I tried calling for 3 days in a row to change the reservation, but no one ever answered. They did get us seated right away, with no issue adding 3 more to our party. With 11 of us, we probably should have had two servers or one a bit more dedicated to a large group. I enjoyed my burger and fries, and although I didn't ask how everyone else enjoyed their food, I do think it all looked pretty good. The drink menu for their specialty drinks is pretty gimmicky and full of sugary choices. When our party was done, a few of us stayed behind and moved over to the bar and enjoyed a few more beverages. It is pretty loud in there, but to be fair, we went on a rainy evening, so all of the roll-up glass doors were closed, which didn't help with volume. There were a few yard games scattered around and quite a few tvs all over, including some extra extra large ones hanging overhead. There were a few receipt discrepancies that had to be worked out, and I have seen many reviews claiming the same issue. So again, there are quite a few things to improve on, and I really hope they do because this will be a fun spot. I would definitely feel comfortable bringing my family with two young kids and not having to worry about them being loud or rambunctious. This will be a fun spot for friends to meet up or families to hang out. read more

Food is always yummy here! Lindsey was the bomb.com She went above and beyond without any fuss on my many request! If you want to see your favorite game on a HUGE tv and have a great time, you need to come to the Backyard! I also love these comfy chairs while I sit 3 hours watching games haha! We politely asked if the sound could be turned on, only to be met with blank stares and a shrug. The hostess simply replied, "I don't know about that," without making the slightest effort to find out. For a venue that markets itself as a sports bar, that is utterly embarrassing. The welcome was just as poor. There was no hostess at the entrance, so we asked the hostess in the betting area, who rather dismissively told us, "I can't help you. The hostess will deal with you." Charming. When the hostess eventually appeared, there wasn't even a "hello" or "welcome." She simply walked off expecting us to follow her. Once seated, things somehow became even worse. Despite there being plenty of staff standing around, it took an age before anyone acknowledged our table. After taking our initial drinks order, our waitress vanished for extended periods. We repeatedly wanted to order food and additional drinks but simply couldn't find her. We even asked staff behind the bar and other employees if someone could help us, only to be met with complete indifference. Nobody appeared remotely interested in providing service. The televisions themselves were another disappointment, with several screens glitching and making the match difficult to watch. Again, nobody seemed particularly bothered. As for the food... painfully average. Bland, uninspired and completely forgettable. Certainly nowhere near good enough to justify returning. There are countless places in Scottsdale serving far better food with staff who actually care. The entire operation felt disorganised, poorly managed and completely lacking any sense of hospitality. With service this bad, mediocre food and staff who seem uninterested in customers, it's difficult to see how this place survives in the long term. A sports bar that doesn't understand sport, service or hospitality. One star is generous. We won't be returning, and management should be thoroughly ashamed of the experience they're providing. Don't come here. There are WAY better options in Scottsdale.

So i was beyond thankful it wasn't insanely busy when we went on Sunday and there was shuffleboard thank god. I also happened to spill my water on accident and was frantic on trying to find something to help clean up before our waiter came back and instantly cleaned it up and was very forgiving about the situation after i kept apologizing for the mess. Now onto the beer and food. The potato scoop appetizer was absolutely amazing. By far the best appetizer I've had in ages something so simple but oh so good! Beer was great, the cocktail we got was supposed to be an award winner which was fine but not sure if it was good enough for me to want to go back repurchase that. I'll stick with the beers. We were surprised to see the restaurant had the front door propped completely open letting the hot air into the restaurant. Since this is a small restaurant you really couldn't escape the heat. The heat unfortunately caused us to leave after a short while.

As a parent, I find this extremely disappointing and frustrating. Families with infants should not have to struggle this much just to find a safe and accessible place to change their baby. I sincerely hope the restaurant addresses these issues, as the experience left us feeling very unwelcome and frustrated.

From the moment my friends and I entered this establishment, we were greeted not with hospitality, but with a palpable sense of disdain and hostility. Our group, comprised entirely of respectful patrons over the age of 18, was subjected to a profoundly unprofessional and frankly humiliating display of condescension and antagonism -- all, it seems, due to the simple fact that none of us were ordering alcohol. Our server, whose demeanor oscillated between apathetic and openly combative, made her disdain immediately known. After only a few of us had placed our food orders, she returned and -- with the grace of a DMV clerk on her worst day -- sharply inquired whether the rest of us planned to order, her tone dripping with contempt. It was not a question of curiosity, but of interrogation, as if our very presence in her section was an inconvenience to her evening. Her relentless pestering continued with unwarranted frequency and increasing hostility. Before we could so much as take a sip of water or enjoy a conversation, we were approached by a manager who might have moonlighted as a failed stand-up comedian. With an unmistakable air of sarcasm, he declared, "We are a for-profit company," as if we were naïve children in need of a capitalism lesson -- all because we had not collectively ordered a feast worthy of royalty. His tone made it abundantly clear that our party was not welcome unless we intended to fund his quarterly bonus. If the experience had ended there, perhaps I could chalk it up to a bad night. But unfortunately, the indignity only escalated. Not long after, the same manager returned with a newfound accusation: we were told that anyone under 18 must leave. We politely informed him -- with the documentation to prove it -- that we were all, in fact, of legal adult age. His response? A dismissive "Oh," followed by an unceremonious retreat, as though our very presence disgusted him. Moments later, the server reemerged, this time with a new fabricated policy: we, as individuals under the age of 21, would have to vacate the premises by 8 PM. Strangely, every publicly available resource -- including their own website -- stated that this supposed age restriction only takes effect after 10 PM. When confronted with this contradiction, the manager once again returned, this time abandoning all pretense of professionalism. He blatantly admitted that the rules were being invented on the spot at the behest of his superior, who allegedly declared he "wouldn't wanna see people like this." Let me be perfectly clear: this was not merely an uncomfortable dining experience -- it was a grotesque display of ageism, classism, and unjustified elitism. We were not intoxicated, unruly, or disruptive. We were a group of young adults trying to enjoy a modest meal and conversation, and were instead treated as an unwanted burden to be removed. In my many years of dining out, I have never encountered such deliberate alienation and outright fabrication of policy to ostracize a paying table. This establishment has not only lost our business but has secured a place in my memory as one of the most flagrantly inhospitable venues I have ever stepped foot in. The Backyard Restaurant was a complete disaster from start to finish. I genuinely don't understand the hype -- unless you're into overpriced food, nonexistent service, and a chaotic atmosphere. We waited 45 minutes for a table, even though several were visibly empty. When we were finally seated, no one came by for another 20 minutes. No water, no greeting, nothing. We had to flag someone down just to get basic service, and when the food finally arrived, it was borderline inedible. The burger I ordered was dry and flavorless, like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. The bun was stale, the toppings were sparse, and the "house sauce" tasted like watered-down ketchup. My friend's chicken sandwich was somehow both greasy and rubbery -- a real feat. The ambiance was equally awful. Loud, disorganized, and dirty. Sticky tables, chipped paint, and a weird mildew smell in the air. Honestly, the whole place felt like it was being run by people who had given up. To make matters worse, our server disappeared entirely after dropping off our food -- no check-in, no refills, and when we finally asked for the bill, it took another 15 minutes just to get that. Our experience at this restaurant was beyond disappointing. From the start, we were met with confusion and dishonesty. We placed our food order, only to be told afterward that we needed to order -- as if our previous order had vanished into thin air. Then came the constant backpedaling and rule-changing. First, we were told we had to be over 18 to stay, which we all were. Minutes later, that magically changed to "you need to be 21 after 8 PM," which is a flat-out lie. Every official policy we found online clearly states that under-21 guests simply need to leave by 10 PM, not 8. The staff clearly didn't want us there and were just throwing out excuses to get us to leave. To make matters worse, one particular waitress -- with reddish-brown hair and visible tattoos on her arm -- was incredibly rude and harassing. Her tone was condescending and aggressive, and she treated us with zero respect, as if we were a nuisance rather than paying customers. There was no reason for that kind of attitude, especially when we had done absolutely nothing wrong. The unprofessionalism, lies, and outright hostility from this place were shocking. If you're looking for a welcoming, honest, and respectful dining experience, this is not the place. I strongly recommend going elsewhere. read more

I used to come here a couple years ago when it was Sandbar and I was happy to see that they decided to reimagine the restaurant. I think this place has a great vibe for desert ridge, surrounded in garage doors to make it feel like you're actually in a backyard. And the fact that they are extremely dog friendly just adds to the "backyard" vibe. TVs EVERYWHERE! They show all the games and have view of at least 5 tvs wherever you sit. The food is MUCH better than it was at Sandbar. They got a new head chef, Chef Tony, and he really knows what he's doing in the kitchen. I had the BBQ sandwich, the meat was really tender, and the BBQ sauce tasted homemade and very good. Also get the chicken tenders and the waffle fries. Drinks were very good too and the best part was the service of the bartenders. Even the barback takes the time to make sure you're okay. 10/10 happy with the new addition to Desert Ridge. read more

Since we live in the area and eat out a fair amount we decided instead of leaving which would have been the intelligent choice we sat at the bar. Another mistake. The bartender was not particularly nice and just wanted our credit card for the check run up. We ordered a couple beers and looked to order some food. This is where the decision was made by us to NEVER go here again and to tell our friends to not waste their money. French fries for $9.00, $17.00 for a simple burger, $16.00 for chicken wings for food quality was adequate at best. If you want to pay 28% more than their competitors then do it. The manager went above and beyond to make my father-in-law's birthday celebration special by surprising him with free tacos and an extra birthday discount. It was such a thoughtful gesture that truly made his day. The food at Backyard was outstanding. The wings were flavorful and cooked to perfection, and the Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. My favorite new hangout spot in the area! The food is delicious for being "bar food", the service has always been great & I really enjoy the live music they have. I bring my dog here since they're dog friendly and he loves it too! They have a really good happy hour from 3-6 during the week and that's typically when I go, but I'd say the prices are fair even when things are full price for the portions you get! I ordered their new Asian chicken salad most recently and it was big enough I had left overs, it seemed very fresh. I will never be returning to this restaurant after witnessing appalling treatment of my Black friend during our visit. It was clear they were being singled out and treated with disrespect solely because of the color of their skin. No one should have to experience that, especially not in a place that claims to welcome all customers. Restaurants that condone or tolerate racist behavior have no place in our community. I came to backyard desert ridge to celebrate my birthday with some friends. We had the lovely Olivia as our server. She attended to our every need promptly and with a smile. Tiana was our server at Bayyard and honestly I'm convinced she runs that place like an air traffic controller with espresso in her veins. Great service and great food!! New management and chef as well. My favorites off the menu are the Mac n cheese, shrimp tacos, and the margherita flatbread. They have live music during the day and a dj at night (on the weekends) to keep you entertained as well as arcade games. Not to mention corn-hole as well. Definitely recommend!!
