If you're looking for a massive sports bar, packed with rabid fans and drinkers, so loud your hearing suffers, this is the place for you. I had it confused with another venue with a similar name, but fewer screens and patrons; quieter and with a big covered patio outdoors with lawn games available. This is NOT it. We started with an argument at the entrance. We had a reservation and were told the people ahead of us at our table were not leaving, so they had to figure something else out. We waited and waited, only to be told by the hostess that "you were late for your reservation by 9 minutes!" We'd been waiting for at least that long or longer. Then she repeated, "the people at that table are not leaving." ... and so, what? There was nothing pleasant, enjoyable or particularly good to eat. First, The place is way too loud on a Friday afternoon around 5:00 p.m. Does it make sence to have a live band, sports with volume at every TV and then backgoound music playing. It was just so bad. Service was great, Michelle was wonderful but the food was just below average by a lot. We got a green goddess salad with carne asade ($25!!!) and it was the most expensive salad we've had. Daughter's chicken tenders were probably the best as far as it being actual chicken tenders. Husband and I shared a fish sandwich and there was just a piece of batter in our sandwich. Michelle got us a new one and although fresh, it had zero (I truly mean zero) flavor of any sort as if they just tossed a fish into oil and cooked it. Great Sports Bar in the old Sandbar Desert Ridge location. They've enclosed the old Sandbar patio and totally renovated the space, which is now absolutely huge. I wanted to love it, but it missed the mark. I thought there would be cornhole, but any yard game was removed. Honestly, that wasn't the biggest letdown. We were one of 6 tables filled in the place (and lots of workers, I didn't see our server working another table), and we had to continually wait for service - wait to have our order taken, wait for a refill on soda, wait for the bill. The burgers were mediocre. If the service was good or food was good, it would have offset the experience, but it just didn't deliver. The ambiance is really cute - it's a great fun lively place. I can see when you are going for a game, it would be fine. As far as a place to stop for a Friday lunch while shopping, it wasn't the right experience. Great atmosphere and drinks, ruined by awful food. Servers were good and cute. The cheese quesadillas were only OK and they were served with no pico de gailla or sour cream, just plain and dry. Which is no way to serve quesadillas. A tiny tiny serving of guac was $2 extra, and there's no chalula or tapatio sauce in the place, just watery Tabasco which sucks. The chicken tenders were decent, but the sauce that came with was no good, and there was a big pile of not good fries. They really need to change their fries. The carne asada fries were just disgusting. A big pile of unrecognizable goop with very little meat, on top of nasty fries. Those 3 disappointing apps and 2 beers with tax and tip cost $87. We sat at the bar & were immediately greeted. We had the turkey melt which was excellent with bacon, arugula, grilled red onion and Brie cheese, which made it absolutely delicious! I would like to start with I really really hope they are understaffed. Walked in today for lunch around noon. The hostess was there and then she wasn't. And a pretty large line formed, then once she finally came back, we were sat at a table near the bar, we sat there for at least 10 mins. Multiple servers walked past us, no one ever came to greet or acknowledge us, we finally decided to go eat somewhere else. It's unfortunate, they have a decent drink list. Maybe sometime in the future I'll give it another attempt, overall looks like it might be a fun place. They either need more servers or better servers. read more

Arrived prior to opening to stand in line for table to watch ASU bowl game with a party of 7. We were not able to be seated together due to tables that could accommodate our party didn't have servers available or those tables were being held for ownership group and alumni group reservations for later that afternoon. Interestingly enough those tables were filled several minutes later with patrons that were not ownership or alumni. Poor management and it was not fun being lied to and inconvenienced. Was at Desert Ridge and we had our pups with us so naturally we had to check out Backyard because it is dog friendly. Super fun place and pretty decent food. We ordered the Chicken Fried Steak from the brunch menu and also the Chicken Biscuit sandwich. For dessert we also shared the Bananas Foster Eggrolls w/Ice Cream. They claimed to have an ESPN event here for college football Saturday. Blocking off every single booth that would seat 10+. The booths are completely empty while they have people packed into the normal dining area. The drinks were the main star for sure. The tv options stole the show as the ncaa tournament was on and we were able to keep up with several games at once. The 3-wall open air concept was literally a breath of fresh air. The two bar setup is smart for the casual breakfast/lunch crowd to turn "old town scottsdale" vibe in the night. We ordered a beer and espresso martini. Martini was on the sweet side. It took about 16 minutes after having empty drinks for a bartender to ask us if we wanted anything else. During the 16minutes a bartender actually took our empty glasses, but neglected to ask if we wanted anything. We ordered the potatoes skins even after reading some of other reviews. It was fairly disappointing. The turnaround time from Order to delivery was good. The cost was overpriced for what we got. The potato skins were flavorless and for less cost, we could have gotten something much better in quality and quantity at another local restaurant I'd recommend to the restaurant to either add spice to their meat or reduce the meat and add toppings like sour cream and bacon to improve it. Angie was a fantastic server! She helped us navigate the menu and offered suggestions as it was our first time visiting! Juliet did her best, but given the circumstances of the kitchen, being so far away from our table and even the bar was not an easy access for her. Came to Backyard for St. Paddy's day and got lucky... lucky in the sense that we had great service at the bar thanks to Hailey who made great drinks, was very attentive, and lots of fun. On the other hand when we originally checked in with the hostess for a table she quoted us 20 minute wait, after 35 minutes we checked back in and were told we were second on the list behind reservations which made sense. Well 2.5 hours in total after eating and drinking at the bar we decided to leave. On the way out we asked to take our name off the list due to the crazy wait, the only response we got was an "okay", no apology for never being seated or taking responsibility for misquoting us originally. We had an amazing experience there! The food was really good. The restaurants decor was super unique and it's just like you're sitting in your backyard . Taylor was our waitress and she was super sweet and kind. My sons pizza took way longer than expected and the manager was really nice about it and was extremely accommodating for the mess up. And my son ended up throwing up on the table and they were super nice about it even though we felt terrible.
