Glad we found this local bistro! We came from a long hike/trekking at west peak overlook. We were so tired and hungry - drove to this place hoping that we will get a real good food. Backyard Bistro did NOT disappoint us. It was really good from main course to dessert. Their carrot cake was on point, not too sweet and rich with ingredients. Similar with our main course which was Pecan Crusted Chicken Breast and Egg' Benedict with pork butt (the specialty of the day" Experience was really good and if in the event that we will be going back in that area we will for sure go back here. Checkout our instagram @roadtwoadventure for more Texas adventure!

Smoked Salmon Benedict was the perfect balance of flavors. I was hesitant about the combination, but had zero regrets after ordering it.

Backyard Bistro is a hidden gem, offering locals and visitors a small town, farm to table, quality culinary experience. As Pipe Creek locals since 2020, with a high regard for the culinary arts, my husband and I find comfort in knowing that this place has remained consistent since our first visit. Keeping menu favorites and frequenting menu specials, our palates stay enticed to come back for something we loved, or to try something new. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is clean, cozy, and charming, their hours are consistent, and most importantly the food is beautifully presented and equally delectable. We highly recommend a visit.

Hidden treasure! We stopped to look at antiques and discovered this small kitchen in the back. The service good but slow, noise levels moderate and the food is delicious. GF friendly. I had a burger and loved it. Charred ground beef topped with cheesy mushrooms, yes yes yes. What really made me happy was how the chef prepared a GF dish for my partner. When she's happy = I'm happy.

This is my second visit to this little bistro. The eatery is in the rear of a large antiques establishment. It is very quaint with a nice, casual vibe. Many of the furnishings are for sale. There is also a large outdoor dining area. On the day we visited we had reservations for 1030. There were tables available but the place filled up while we were there. Two of our party ordered the special- a chicken fried steak with gravy, eggs your way, toast and fruit for $13. One of us got the spinach and tomato omlet with fruit for $8, and I ordered an appetizer of 4 panko encrusted cheese grits in remoulade sauce for $6. We also shared a shrimp corn dog appetizer, basically shrimp fried in cornmeal in a sweet and spicy thai sauce. It was $4 for 4 shrimp so we all tried it and liked it very much. Two of us ordered tea and one got coffee. He also ordered the cauliflower soup which was not served so we had to get it taken off the bill. We ate everything. It was wonderful, made fresh and cooked to order. Our total bill was $55 plus tax and tip. They have a nice selection of homemade desserts but we were full from our meal. I did not take anything away from my rating although the waitress forgot the soup and it took way longer than it should to get the bill, get it picked up and then returned. If there is one thing I would criticize is the bathroom. There is only one and it seems whenever I have gone to use it someone is in there holding a morning constitution. So I just stand there outside the door in the middle of the restaurant waiting for whoever is in there to wrap it up, so to speak. I think they need to make a second bathroom out of the overly large space they have for one sink and toilet. Somthing to consider for the future. In summary, this bistro is quaint with just a big enough portion of fresh tasty food you can finish without getting a box, and very reasonable prices.

This place is not just a Hill Country gem, but a Texas gem. It is located in the heart of Bandera, TX right off Hwy 16 and just a hop-skip-and-a-jump from San Antonio. The service was phenomenal- friendly and attentive - and the food was perfectly cooked and DELICIOUS!! I had the Pecan-crusted Chicken and it was cooked to perfection. My daughter had the Bistro Burger and sweet potato fries and she hasn't stopped raving. Plus their yummy desserts are all handmade fresh! I am so glad we stopped instead of driving back to San Antonio. We will definitely make the drive back specifically to visit this restaurant. You should too!

Awesome, quirky vibe in the private dining area.

Pulled over on the way home from Boerne and was pretty surprised with the entire experience. Definitely exceeded my expectations. You drive down a sketchy caliche road thinking you are going to someone's house behind an antique store. You are only partially right. It's a house, but no one lives there anymore. The parking lot is small, but if the weather is warm there's a ton of seating outside. If the weather is bad, you may be a little tight inside if it looks like the parking lot is full. Don't worry, park where ever. All the tables were taken so they asked if we wanted to sit outside on a February Friday. It was cool, but we were hungry. On the way they said that we could have the private dinning room. Sure! It turned out to be a little house/room/shed way out back and it was awesome. I thought I was living large. Very pretty, very romantic. If only we didn't have a third wheel with us! Started off with the corndog shrimp and it came with onion soup. The corndog shrimp were very novel. Shrimp on a skewer that had been dipped in corndog batter. Tasted awesome. Came with some sweat & sour chili sauce to give it that Asian vibe. Well done there. The onion soup was a bit sketchy and wasn't nearly to the same level of quality or innovation. A dollop of cheese was in there somewhere and a piece of bread. A high & low before starting the entree. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and really enjoyed it. It wasn't the ginormous slab of fried steak you are used to, but it tasted absolutely fantastic. There was some gravy for it and the great mashed potatoes but it wasn't swimming in it, so I was happy. It was accompanied by some nice steamed/backed zucchini and tomato slice. Pretty good roll ended the event. The waitress was nice but I think she forgot us a few times being out in the remote spot. No big deal, we were having fun with our conversations. Overall a great, unexpected meal. Pro-tip: If they put you in the private dining area consider yourself fortunate and enjoy the wonky privacy. Make sure you have your patience pill or don't go out there. Finally, bring your own music or it's like a tomb. We whipped out Spotify and dialed it in.

    Biscuit with strawberry butter.

Randomly found this place after picking up a rescue dog and WOW was I amazed. I ordered biscuits with jam and they gave us some of their "strawberry butter". I dont even eat butter but I ate theirs with every bite. Not like a normal person but the entire dollop with every bite. The shrimp corn dog was perfectly seasoned and cooked. I ate 6 pieces all to myself. Everyone loved their dishes. But holy moley guacamole was their ice cream (honey and the basil peppercorn) OUT OF THIS WORLD! To top it off, they give out coffee in huge mugs. I was blissfully in heaven. Please excuse the only photo I took. My children made fun of me for it, but yolo!

Then, when he got sick and had to change it to Monday, we idiots did not look to see if it was open that day. We were driving out to Pipe's Creek to check on my trailer, so he looked online for restaurants in the area that were open and found Jo Mama's. After a quick look at the menu, we decided it was worth a try. They had several specialty burgers that all sounded good, so we stopped in. The dining room is tiny, but you do have the option of eating in Chubby's bar next door. We stayed in the dining room. The people working at the restaurant were all super nice and helpful. I ordered a bacon and blue cheese burger with a side of sweet potato fries and an extra cup of their homemade blue cheese dressing for dipping. My son ordered the Frito pie burger with tater tots. We also both ordered sweet tea, which was actually bottles of Gold Peak. My son did surprisingly well with his burger. It was super loaded with chili and thus super messy. After he had scarfed the burger down, he had a full serving of Frito pie on his plate. He said the chili was awesome. The tots however were just "okay". My burger was amazing. The patty and bread were the perfect match. The bacon was thick and crispy. Everything came together to make it really delicious. But, if I'm honest, the highlight of my meal was the sweet potato fries. They were nice and crispy. But, what put them over the top was a generous sprinkle of sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla powder. That combination was positively addicting. I blindly ate all of them, which is very unusual for me. I normally eat about 6 or 8 fries and give the rest away. I visit my trailer to check on it after major storms and when I haven't camped as much. Plus I go to Pipe Creek to hook it up for trips and bring it back for storage. I'm pretty sure there will be a hamburger in my belly every time I go there in the future. I want to work through the menu and try the others. Why? Just because they are there, and after eating one of them, I know the rest are going to be awesome, too.

The jalapeno hush puppies that came with it were excellent. However, the coleslaw had a very odd flavour, and neither of us liked it. It tasted acrid to me. I didn't really like the fries because of the seasoning, but I still had a few. The server initially gave my cousin water instead of the sweet tea that he ordered. We walk in and there were at least 3 waiters around looking at us confused if we should order at the counter seeing a line there or just seat ourselves. We finally decided to flag a waitress and ask her. As friendly as people are in this town it was not the case at this restaurant. The lady was short with her answers and almost felt like she is mocking our questions. I saw that the must try is the Texas Spud which seems to be a loaded baked potato. In general from what I know baked potatoes might include bacon and my friend doesn't eat bacon. The way she answered about it was such a turn off! We were about to have a full mean ended up opting to just try the Texas Spud and a side of onion rings since she recommended that The onion rings are old and inedible we left them. The Texas Spud when it came to the table I ended up having a full understanding of it by eating it. So basically it is a baked potato with chili on it (no meat) it feels it came from a can and cheese pickled jalapeño and sour cream decorated with tortilla chips around it. It was ok but I could say I have tried it. The restaurant itself is very old. I believe it is the oldest running restaurant in Bandera I got to see The John Wayne Room which is western-themed dining room. Decorated with memorabilia dedicated to "The Duke". Beware The "Pastrami Reuben"…read more I saw that hundreds of people on Yelp had reviewed Cibolo Creek Brewing and overall ratings were over 4 stars. I should have done a bit more reading and looking at the pictures. We stopped in on a mid-afternoon Sunday in early June. First impression upon entering through the front door was confusion. It was not really clear what the process was to order and get a seat. We approached the bar area and then noticed the "order here and seat yourself" signs. Several people came in behind us and so we felt a bit rushed to order. There were several craft beers on tap, but I was told I could not get a flight at the moment. I was able to get a taster, but with all the people behind me waiting to order, I didn't feel I had time to find out more about the beers before committing to a 16oz pour or lose my place in line. Shame on me for not doing my homework. We tried "The BEST Burger" and the "Pastrami Reuben", both with fries and two beers for close to $60 plus tip. The burger wasn't the best. It was sort of "meh". The homemade fries were good. The so-called Reuben was closer to a brisket sandwich than an actual Reuben. The meat was very mesquite-wood-smokey and then appeared to have been fried on a grill (definitely not steamed). It was very chewy despite being thinly sliced and had NONE of the flavor good pastrami has. The menu claims the meat is tri-tip, but tri-tip is known to be a tender cut. The meat on that sandwich was NOT tender. Cibolo Creek Brewery is in a great location (which sort of explains the prices) right next to the Cibolo Creek Trail and River Road Park and they do have a nice covered outdoor seating area with large family-style picnic tables. I may return to sample a few more of their beers and see if there is something I like better on the menu.
