Smoked Salmon Benedict was the perfect balance of flavors. I was hesitant about the combination, but had zero regrets after ordering it.

Backyard Bistro is a hidden gem, offering locals and visitors a small town, farm to table, quality culinary experience. As Pipe Creek locals since 2020, with a high regard for the culinary arts, my husband and I find comfort in knowing that this place has remained consistent since our first visit. Keeping menu favorites and frequenting menu specials, our palates stay enticed to come back for something we loved, or to try something new. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is clean, cozy, and charming, their hours are consistent, and most importantly the food is beautifully presented and equally delectable. We highly recommend a visit.

Glad we found this local bistro! We came from a long hike/trekking at west peak overlook. We were so tired and hungry - drove to this place hoping that we will get a real good food. Backyard Bistro did NOT disappoint us. It was really good from main course to dessert. Their carrot cake was on point, not too sweet and rich with ingredients. Similar with our main course which was Pecan Crusted Chicken Breast and Egg' Benedict with pork butt (the specialty of the day" Experience was really good and if in the event that we will be going back in that area we will for sure go back here. Hidden treasure! We stopped to look at antiques and discovered this small kitchen in the back. The service good but slow, noise levels moderate and the food is delicious. GF friendly. I had a burger and loved it. Charred ground beef topped with cheesy mushrooms, yes yes yes. What really made me happy was how the chef prepared a GF dish for my partner. When she's happy = I'm happy.

This is my second visit to this little bistro. The eatery is in the rear of a large antiques establishment. It is very quaint with a nice, casual vibe. Many of the furnishings are for sale. There is also a large outdoor dining area. On the day we visited we had reservations for 1030. There were tables available but the place filled up while we were there. Two of our party ordered the special- a chicken fried steak with gravy, eggs your way, toast and fruit for $13. One of us got the spinach and tomato omlet with fruit for $8, and I ordered an appetizer of 4 panko encrusted cheese grits in remoulade sauce for $6. We also shared a shrimp corn dog appetizer, basically shrimp fried in cornmeal in a sweet and spicy thai sauce. It was $4 for 4 shrimp so we all tried it and liked it very much. Two of us ordered tea and one got coffee. He also ordered the cauliflower soup which was not served so we had to get it taken off the bill. We ate everything. It was wonderful, made fresh and cooked to order. Our total bill was $55 plus tax and tip. They have a nice selection of homemade desserts but we were full from our meal. I did not take anything away from my rating although the waitress forgot the soup and it took way longer than it should to get the bill, get it picked up and then returned. If there is one thing I would criticize is the bathroom. There is only one and it seems whenever I have gone to use it someone is in there holding a morning constitution. So I just stand there outside the door in the middle of the restaurant waiting for whoever is in there to wrap it up, so to speak. I think they need to make a second bathroom out of the overly large space they have for one sink and toilet. Somthing to consider for the future. In summary, this bistro is quaint with just a big enough portion of fresh tasty food you can finish without getting a box, and very reasonable prices.

This place is not just a Hill Country gem, but a Texas gem. It is located in the heart of Bandera, TX right off Hwy 16 and just a hop-skip-and-a-jump from San Antonio. The service was phenomenal- friendly and attentive - and the food was perfectly cooked and DELICIOUS!! I had the Pecan-crusted Chicken and it was cooked to perfection. My daughter had the Bistro Burger and sweet potato fries and she hasn't stopped raving. Plus their yummy desserts are all handmade fresh! I am so glad we stopped instead of driving back to San Antonio. We will definitely make the drive back specifically to visit this restaurant. You should too!

Awesome, quirky vibe in the private dining area.

Pulled over on the way home from Boerne and was pretty surprised with the entire experience. Definitely exceeded my expectations. You drive down a sketchy caliche road thinking you are going to someone's house behind an antique store. You are only partially right. It's a house, but no one lives there anymore. The parking lot is small, but if the weather is warm there's a ton of seating outside. If the weather is bad, you may be a little tight inside if it looks like the parking lot is full. Don't worry, park where ever. All the tables were taken so they asked if we wanted to sit outside on a February Friday. It was cool, but we were hungry. On the way they said that we could have the private dinning room. Sure! It turned out to be a little house/room/shed way out back and it was awesome. I thought I was living large. Very pretty, very romantic. If only we didn't have a third wheel with us! Started off with the corndog shrimp and it came with onion soup. The corndog shrimp were very novel. Shrimp on a skewer that had been dipped in corndog batter. Tasted awesome. Came with some sweat & sour chili sauce to give it that Asian vibe. Well done there. The onion soup was a bit sketchy and wasn't nearly to the same level of quality or innovation. A dollop of cheese was in there somewhere and a piece of bread. A high & low before starting the entree. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and really enjoyed it. It wasn't the ginormous slab of fried steak you are used to, but it tasted absolutely fantastic. There was some gravy for it and the great mashed potatoes but it wasn't swimming in it, so I was happy. It was accompanied by some nice steamed/backed zucchini and tomato slice. Pretty good roll ended the event. The waitress was nice but I think she forgot us a few times being out in the remote spot. No big deal, we were having fun with our conversations. Overall a great, unexpected meal. Pro-tip: If they put you in the private dining area consider yourself fortunate and enjoy the wonky privacy. Make sure you have your patience pill or don't go out there. Finally, bring your own music or it's like a tomb. We whipped out Spotify and dialed it in.

Food was a great late night snack! Was tasty and though I don't have a picture I also got a salad and the dressing was among the best I've ever had. I took a trip about 30 minutes to closing in order to go, and even though they were bombarded with people, they were still very polite and helpful. It's a cute little pipe creek/ bandera spot and I love the look, very rustic.

But - we decided to stop. My first impression was 'a restaurant that's attached to an ice house . . . ok, low expectations. I was wrong! My wife ordered the Patty Melt which is a generous hamburger patty served with caramelized onions (nice and sweet), melted white American cheese and cheddar cheese, covered with their house made tangy Patty melt sauce all placed in between toasted sourdough bread. That sandwich was amazingly juicy, full of flavor and just downright really good! Probably one of the best two Patty Melts I've ever had! The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with a great flavor! If my burger wasn't so good I'd have wished I ordered this instead of just having a bite. I ordered the Jalapeño Popper Burger and wow - great! A huge seasoned patty with cream cheese, jalapeños (grilled), bacon, an onion ring and a raspberry chipotle bbq sauce. That burger was perfect - the flavors were perfect together. The burger was juicy - it was really good. I had a side of onion rings and they were also great. The onions were dipped in buttermilk and then their house made batter and deep fried to perfection. Subtle flavor that worked well but wasn't overpowering. So - it's in the middle of a small town - attached to an ice house - and the food is exceptional! Highly recommend it!!

The jalapeno hush puppies that came with it were excellent. However, the coleslaw had a very odd flavour, and neither of us liked it. It tasted acrid to me. I didn't really like the fries because of the seasoning, but I still had a few. The server initially gave my cousin water instead of the sweet tea that he ordered. On a sunny Mother's Day morning, myself and 3 family members enjoyed a wonderful dining experience…read moreat Sunny's! Almost a month and a half beforehand, I made reservations online, which was quick and easy. For the occasion, they offered a special menu to help streamline ordering. The entrees were $28 and included either a mimosa or specialty drink. My mom and aunt both ordered the Southern Hospitality, which came with eggs, shredded hashbrowns, bacon, sausage, toast, and berry compote. My aunt paired hers with a mimosa while my mom chose a drip coffee. My little cousin had the mini stack pancakes topped with fresh berries and whipped cream. I was looking for a lower-carb option, so although I considered the omelette, most of the included ingredients were not to my liking. Instead, I ordered 2 eggs with added tomato and a side of hollandaise sauce. For my drink, I chose the Sunnycito coffee. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals! The presentation of each dish was beautifully curated. I really enjoyed my food overall, though I was not particularly fond of the hollandaise sauce. The flavor was not very enticing to me, and the consistency was a bit too thick. However, the Sunnycito coffee was absolutely superb! I almost ordered another one to-go. It was a beautifully blended, smooth, rich concoction inspired by a café con leche, or "cafecito", a Cuban-style coffee. When I looked over their regular menu beforehand, the drinks were labeled as either hot or iced, and I had only seen the Sunnycito listed hot, which is how it is traditionally prepared. Our wonderful waitress kindly asked if I would prefer it iced, and since I was in the mood for something cold, I happily agreed. I highly recommend this drink! They also add a hint of orange zest, which was such a unique touch and something I had never encountered before in a coffee. Despite how busy the restaurant was, everything seemed to run very smoothly. The staff remained attentive to everyone's needs, and our water glasses were never empty. I regret forgetting our waitress's name, but she was personable, sweet, and attentive throughout the entire experience. Altogether, it made for a very special and memorable Mother's Day celebration. I can't wait to return!

One oddity is there is a ramp leading to a door, but apparently that is not the entrance, at least according to the sign on the door. The entrance has stairs you need to ascend. So much for wheelchair and mobility issue friendly. We were seated quickly. Overall impressions are its clean, and normal restaurant chatter. There is seating inside, as well as outside, and apparently there is an upstairs seating area as well. Seating inside is close together, so this is not the place for conversation that you don't want others to hear. Waited quite a while without any acknowledgment of any kind, no drink order taken, nothing. After our waitress arrived, our drink orders were taken. At this point, since we still haven't received our drinks, I'm going to break from normal and mention the terrible service. I would normally wait until the end but this deserves mentioning. A different waitress approached and asked about our drinks. After another wait, our drinks arrived. Correction, the 2 coffees arrived. Not the Diet Pepsi that was ordered. On the plus side, my wife and daughter rated the coffees a 4.5 and 4, respectively. They did mention they were slightly less happy with the sizes. We finally placed our food order. Upon arrival, the food, fortunately, was excellent. My wife and daughter both rated the crepes 5 out of 5. I would rate the omelette 4.5-4.75. We are hoping the service was a fluke, because we had read good things about Sunny's, and their overall ratings are high. I can say this was one of the worst services I've experienced in quite some time, including fast food establishments. We will try again, and hopefully the service is better. So take from this what you will: Based on food and cost, I would rate Sunny's a 4.25. Factor in the service and I would rate it a 2.5, and wouldn't return. Hopefully our next experience is better.
