The moment we walked in, we were greeted by a smiling hostess and we were sat very quickly. The menu was filled with many Farm to Table items that all sounded delicious. The Chicken Rollete, stuffed with truffles with a side of fabulous homemade mashed potatoes was phenomenal. It was tender and wonderfully flavored. My sons decided to split Aaron's Chicken Fried Steak and wee not disappointed. The portion was huge and even though they split it, it was wonderfully plated separately. Being that there is an antique shop connected with the restaurant, the ambiance is quaint and cottagey. The stars of our evening were Wilbur and Templeton; two handsome and well behaved pot-belly pigs that live on the farm part of the property that got the pleasure of meeting. Most awesome coconut cake ever! This place is a gem! They have the best food in the area and the decor is just what you would expect in a quaint restaurant behind an antique shop. It's charming inside and out! All of the food is freshly prepared and the cakes and pies are wonderful! They have excellent breakfast and great quiche. The pecan crusted chicken is one of our favorites, but everything is good. The coconut cake is delicious. I like it so much that I ordered a whole cake to take to my father for his birthday! The carrot cake is also fantastic. It's moist and has an excellent cream cheese icing that just makes it. Great place! Go, and enjoy! read more

This place is such a treat, and only a few miles away from us. Sort of a hidden treasure just behind Country Accents Antiques store which is a treasure in itself. The chicken fried steak is not like any you'll have anywhere else. It's very tender and almost melts in your mouth. The burgers are good (ask for the eagle burger which has a fried egg), the veggie crepe is wonderful, but the most delightful thing I've tasted here so far is the crab cakes Benedict on the brunch menu. Be sure to save room for the awesome home made desserts! The service is good, and The atmosphere is cozy and pretty special in warm months when you can sit outside and watch Wilbur the pig just over the fence. They have local, live music on Friday and Saturday nights. read more

On a visit to Bandera to visit family we made stop at Backyard Bistro with the whole family. This place is amazing! Great hospitality and charm with a Texas twist on staples like chicken fried steak, bruschetta, and crab cakes. The portions were generous and what makes this place extra special is the backyard. There's ample seating outside, a play area for the kiddos, access to a chicken coop and potbellied pigs roaming around. This restaurant is only 8 miles from Bandera, a nice getaway from San Antonio so do yourself a favor and get out there! Also our waitress Shelley provided terrific service. read more

We were staying at an Air B&B in PipeCreek that was out of the way so we ordered our supper for both nights. The food was fabulous! Very upscale for a small out of the way places. We had flat iron steaks, pecan crusted chicken and chicken fried steak.... all delicious. DO NOT skip desert we had the cinnamon basil pepper Ice cream and buttermilk pie .... Outstanding! Wow, I was not expecting one of the best breakfasts I have ever had - in Bandera Texas. You really need to try the fried grits with roumalade sauce (Backyard Bistro if are listening just go ahead a sell the roumalade as a bowl of soup - it's that good). My family has been traveling across the country for the last 4 months. We didn't expect to find such an incredible place in small town Texas, but this was our favorite restaurant yet. We went out for brunch to celebrate our 6 year olds birthday, and were so pleased that we went for dinner the next day as well, our last day in town. It's a good thing we didn't find it until two days before we left, or we'd have given them all of our money. The food is delicious, like, incredible, but the people are even better. We had the same waitress for both visits, and she was just a doll. The atmosphere is cozy farm chic, kid friendly, and lively but not obnoxious. We've been going to this restaurant since it opened 11 years ago and are so appreciative of having a good quality restaurant in our area. Chef Aaron, the hostess and waitstaff are fantastic! We often have lunch or dinner there and particularly enjoy it when the weather allows us to dine outside. Favorites include the pecan cream chicken breast over linguini and the flat iron steak. Also have thoroughly enjoyed specials such as the scallops crusted with mushrooms and shrimp with risotto. You really can't go wrong. Whatever you choose, be sure to try one of the desserts made by Aaron. The carrot cake and black pepper basil ice cream are delicious! read more

This is my first time at this restaurant. It was previously a different restaurant. It's located in an old ranch house. The menu has a Mexican side and American side. I started with the potato ham and cheddar soup. It was very thick and tasty. My main course was the Mexican plate. It was good for Pipe Creek but nothing to brag about. Then again it's the only restaurant in Pipe Creek. I wouldn't drive from anywhere else to eat here but if you're in Pipe Creek it will fill you up. We've been here a few times because we live in the area, but I'm honestly not a fan. The service is generally good but the food is never of the quality I expect. For the prices and the atmosphere, I expect something like my Grandmother or Mom would make. The food has always been okay, but the chef always ads some twist that makes it very obvious you aren't eating 'home cooking'. On our last visit I order the fried chicken, but what I got was a breaded boneless chicken breast with an odd twist on mashed potatoes and gravy. It was disappointing. read more

Great service, and very friendly staff serving out undecided table of 8. The ambiance is awesome. It's only a little confusing to go here, just go through the antique shop and then the garden and keep going, and then you'll reach the bistro. You might see some chickens, a couple of dogs, some other bird type, and a very friendly pig on the way. Prices are reasonable and the food is great. A large portion of it is local and you can get really reasonably priced things. We came for lunch and I would sure recommend this over all the Tex Mex in Bandera, which leaves a bit to be desired. read more

Nice atmosphere with the wooden floors and all. I ordered what the waitress recommended , the pecan crusted chicken. Looked like a little bit more than 1/4 chicken fried in batter with almonds/honey on top of some flat noodles. There were maybe 2-3 teeny stacks of spinach and probably 1/7 worth of a whole diced tomato/onion. Not very much flavor at all in the lemon butter sauce, I could hardly taste it, much less the teeny portions of veggies involved. The sauce didn't even seem to coat most of the noodles. Even the chicken, which was had the most flavor, didn't seem to have enough. The good was the texture of the chicken was moist and well prepared. With a tea, the total was $14.50 (before taxes/tip), which was pricey for the amount of food and the bland taste of most of it, specifically the noodles. I might have just ordered the wrong item? Much of of their brunch menu was omelettes , which kind of bore me though. So, 3 stars. read more

Looking for a quaint out of the way restaurant, this is the place. We were doing a Saturday hill country drive and found this place on Yelp. Saturday and Sunday they do a very nice brunch 10:00 to 2:30 pm. Chef Arron is very creative chef and owner. We had the Eggs Benedict and I have to say they were probably one of the best I have ever had. The Hollandaise sauce was prepared in house and was perfectly done with cream butter not margarine. The eggs were cooked just the way I like them the first time. I can't tell you how many times I have sent back over cooked eggs Benedict. We can't wait to come back and try dinner on a Saturday night. They also have a very nice beer list and some nice local Texas hill country wines. read more

Great customer service here. The food was really good. Excellent seasoned French fries! I had the chicken salad sandwich and cup of broccoli cheese soup.
