Once again, my son and I made plans to go eat somewhere that was closed! Our original date was a Sunday. Then, when he got sick and had to change it to Monday, we idiots did not look to see if it was open that day. We were driving out to Pipe's Creek to check on my trailer, so he looked online for restaurants in the area that were open and found Jo Mama's. After a quick look at the menu, we decided it was worth a try. They had several specialty burgers that all sounded good, so we stopped in. The dining room is tiny, but you do have the option of eating in Chubby's bar next door. We stayed in the dining room. The people working at the restaurant were all super nice and helpful. I ordered a bacon and blue cheese burger with a side of sweet potato fries and an extra cup of their homemade blue cheese dressing for dipping. My son ordered the Frito pie burger with tater tots. We also both ordered sweet tea, which was actually bottles of Gold Peak. My son did surprisingly well with his burger. It was super loaded with chili and thus super messy. After he had scarfed the burger down, he had a full serving of Frito pie on his plate. He said the chili was awesome. The tots however were just "okay". My burger was amazing. The patty and bread were the perfect match. The bacon was thick and crispy. Everything came together to make it really delicious. But, if I'm honest, the highlight of my meal was the sweet potato fries. They were nice and crispy. But, what put them over the top was a generous sprinkle of sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla powder. That combination was positively addicting. I blindly ate all of them, which is very unusual for me. I normally eat about 6 or 8 fries and give the rest away. I visit my trailer to check on it after major storms and when I haven't camped as much. Plus I go to Pipe Creek to hook it up for trips and bring it back for storage. I'm pretty sure there will be a hamburger in my belly every time I go there in the future. I want to work through the menu and try the others. Why? We were passing through and hungry. My wife pulled this place up. I was highly skeptical - my experience has often been that many restaurants in small towns (Pipe Creek is a small town and I can say that because I live in another small town) aren't that great and wouldn't do well in a more populated place. But - we decided to stop. My first impression was 'a restaurant that's attached to an ice house . . . ok, low expectations. I was wrong! My wife ordered the Patty Melt which is a generous hamburger patty served with caramelized onions (nice and sweet), melted white American cheese and cheddar cheese, covered with their house made tangy Patty melt sauce all placed in between toasted sourdough bread. That sandwich was amazingly juicy, full of flavor and just downright really good! Probably one of the best two Patty Melts I've ever had! The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with a great flavor! If my burger wasn't so good I'd have wished I ordered this instead of just having a bite. I ordered the Jalapeño Popper Burger and wow - great! A huge seasoned patty with cream cheese, jalapeños (grilled), bacon, an onion ring and a raspberry chipotle bbq sauce. That burger was perfect - the flavors were perfect together. The burger was juicy - it was really good. I had a side of onion rings and they were also great. The onions were dipped in buttermilk and then their house made batter and deep fried to perfection. Subtle flavor that worked well but wasn't overpowering. So - it's in the middle of a small town - attached to an ice house - and the food is exceptional! Highly recommend it!! read more

HIDDEN GEM!!! I have worked in this area for over 4 years and never knew this burger spot existed until a new friend in Lakehills told me about it. I drove past it for literal years. She recommended the Bacon Blues burger last summer and I've only gotten that burger ever since. The cooks are amazing and the staff is always friendly. I've never had a bad experience here and doubt I would. Once they forgot the bacon on my burger but that's kinda on me because I came in close to closing time. Sorry y'all. I felt bad even calling but Jody called me back and replaced my burger. The replacement burger is the one I pictured. What a wonderful surprise this place was! We actually only stopped in because of the name, Jo Mama's, as my husband was born and raised in Hawaii, and he had a good friend named Jo Mama. But we loved the cute little place, and we cannot say enough about how good the cheeseburgers and the fries were! The fries had such a delicious seasoning on them, and everything was fresh and tasty as heck. We'd be in trouble if we lived near here, as we would be eating there every day! I got the Jalapeño Popper burger, I think I got a little too excited and didn't read the whole menu description, I missed the sweet sauce.. personally love a good jalapeño popper burger, and once I saw it I had high hopes, but there was A LOT of the sweet sauce, my burger was sitting in a pool of sweet bbq sauce. it completely dominated all the other glorious flavors and was like eating a dessert. although the sauce its self had a nice flavor I just couldn't taste anything else but that. will have to try again without it. read more
