I've been to several BBQ spots in my lifetime but I must say, Backyard BBQ has to be one of the most delicious BBQ joint I've ever been to. My journey to Backyard BBQ stated over a year ago. My bestie actually dined there first with his family and recommend it to me. I'm so glad I was able to enjoy a return trip with my friend. I enjoyed Backyard BBQ on many levels, especially but the twist comes in when you consider that fact that it's rigjt in the middle of a seafood heaven. I guess having a BBQ joint on a nautical mile to some may seem like an oddity but I consider it a stroke of genius because it works perfectly. If you're like me, after a full day out in the water watching fish, dolphins and whales, getting off a boat and having seafood wouldn't be my first choice and that's why good old bbq is the perfect alternative. Good friendly service was plenty! Both versions of the fried wings I tried start with a heavy batter. From there the chosen flavor was added. With the Lemon Pepper, there was a stronger lemon essence than pepper. The Thai Chili version was just a thick saucy mess. Of the two versions, the Lemon Pepper was better. The pork ribs were drier than I expected. It didn't really have the good smoke I was looking for either. The brisket was forgettable as it was really dry. Portions for all the entrees were really generous. Be prepared to take home leftovers. Staff was friendly and personable. Staff came by frequently to check on any needs my group had. We ordered so much food from this place and although we've been here once before (years ago) a lot has changed. Last visit, i loved the baked beans this time i didn't enjoy them at all. The mac n cheese was actually better this time and the potato salad was very bland and just okay. The fried fish was extremely salty! Too salty to enjoy. The collard greens, yams, fried shrimp and buffalo wings were good. There were a lot of hits but some misses. The service was fast for all of the food we ordered. I called in for the shrimp appetizer, collard greens empanadas, and smoked Mac and cheese. Every. Single. Dish. Blew me away. Restaurant is a simple spot. Nice little chill place on the mile with a few booths. You come and get straight to the point. Order your food and wait. They have happy hour but I was just here for the food. I'm all over the place with this review because that's how my emotions were when I ate here. First of all, who the hell ever thought of collard green empanadas WITH three cheeses? Amazing! Literally a flavor orgasm in your mouth...plus you're getting your daily dose of greens. The shrimp appetizer was such a big portion. The appetizer comes with truffle fries and I'm always here for anything truffle. Shrimp was nicely fried with an appreciative ratio of breading to shrimp. Just a perfect crunch. The mac and cheese is CHEESY. If you're lactose intolerant just stay away but if you're wondering if it's worth the stomach turn... it is. Backyard bbq restaurant review This place needs Gordon Ramsay! Lol Just saying how do we have reservations we arrive on time. We get seated 10mins after. They come to the table about 15min after being seated. The girl takes the order we are 4 people they had a prefix menu! We think the food should come out at a decent time! We asked about 45mins after the girl took our order to see if they had a status. it was a bit busy but the place is but so big! We asked The man and he says he sorry but that that's why they passed around some baked clams thinking that will hold us. Only thing going for them is the music. We waited another 45mins and left. Really enjoyed this restaurant Sunday night. I love that there's a parking lot right out front because parking on the nautical mile can be tough. Our server was extremely friendly and kept checking on us. Food and drinks were great. I enjoyed my blue Mai Thai. We had the empanada appetizer. This was a pretty chill spot- solid 3.5 ! I heard so many people raving so had to come check it out. I ordered so much food haha Got the lemon pepper wings, regular fried wings and jerkwings. Fries, Mac and yams. The jerk wings were ok. They were more sweet and salty in my opinion than Smokey and spicey so I personally wouldn't order again but worth trying i guess. If I could sum up Backyard Barbecue in a few words it would be GENUINE and Lip Smacking Good!! Luckily it wasn't packed the time we walked in (Memorial Weekend/Saturday).  There were only 3 other tables occupied at that moment and we were perfectly fine with that. I'm sure it'll be different in the evening.  We had the pleasure of being serviced by Cassie (the tall one), John and Co-Owner Kenny.  Cassie greeted us as soon as we walked in and told us we could sit any where we wanted.  A few minutes after sitting John approached us to inform one of the booths became available & we could relocate as soon as he finished sanitizing it. My greedy self was hoping Brunch was being served but that's only on Sundays. Cassie was Personable, professional, and funny. She took our order and I believe also made our drinks.  We ordered the lemon pepper wings & clams for our appetizers.  It was my 1st time having L&P wings and they did not disappoint!! We ordered the 2 meat combo and chicken Qtr with sides. Took majority of our food to go because we were full (except for appetizers). Blue Mai Tai and Legspreader(modified version)=Good.  L&P wings= Good. Brisket= Good. Qtr Chicken= Good. Burger= Good.  Candied yams, smoked mac n cheese= GOOD. Pickled onions & pickles=Good. Fries= Good. Fab cornbread; cheesy mac'n'cheese (toasted!); candied yams prepared perfectly; a tasty, meaty version of baked beans. ALL YUMMY! The ethnic tunes -- blasting -- were somewhat offputting to us. We suggest instead: classic R&B or cool jazz or Dixieland or Louis Armstrong. Where do I start, you really can't go wrong here with whatever you order. I came back for taco Tuesday's. The brisket tacos are my favorite because they are made with corn tacos (I hate white tacos) and the flavors are soooo good. Today I tried their skirt steak tacos and that was good as well. It has a sweet sauce drizzled on top of the tender marinated steak. The reason why Backyard BBQ is soo good is because the chief knows what their doing in the kitchen. The food is well seasoned here. My go to favorite is the lemon pepper chicken wings. The outside is crispy, but not overpowering. The Lemon and the pepper has a kick to it. I am sad to leave this review but I must be honest and hope that the owners can take a bit of constructive criticism. Upon arriving here on Saturday after 5 we were immediately seated as a party of 6. There were three guys serving and making drinks as well as greeting everyone that were super nice ! We looked over the menu and while we were doing this one of the guys brought us water with lemon on the side without us even having to ask. Later we met the second guy and soon after the third. They answered any and all questions we had , made recommendations and were super patient with us. Hence what makes me sad. I ordered the burger and fries as well as a pina colada ( only sandwich on the menu). The drinks were amazing ! 4 of us ordered drinks and agreed they were good and strong. On to my burger and fries. Like other restaurants today they branded the burger with their business name which is cute however they burned it into the bun and all I could taste was the burned bun. I decided not to complain and just take the top bun off. This led me to a super thin beef pattie (the tomato was cut thicker than the pattie) which also tasted burnt and lacked flavor. The fries were covered in Parmesan and something else I can't remember but they were good. My eldest sister got the ribs and though I didn't taste them my family agreed they were dry and for a BBQ spot the ribs weren't fall of the bone. They all agreed the corn bread was really dry and my eldest sister wouldn't even taste hers. You could literally see how dry it was. We also ordered the wings and shrimp. According to them it wasn't anything to write home about they were just "ok" and they agreed the better sauce was the sweet Thai. We also got the Mac & Cheese which the guys claimed was really good/popular but all we could taste was black pepper and a cheap cheese after taste. The yams were also "ok" Tbh I wouldn't return here because the food just wasn't worth it. I really gave three stars for the service and drinks. Sorry no pics I forgot as we were having fun. Celebrating the start of summer and 4th of July weekend at this awesome spot-black owned and professionally run. The owner Kenny came out to greet us and took care of the whole night. The food was really good. My friend LOVED his burger--said it was the best burger he ever had. That's huge! Brisket chuck and short rib made up this beefy trifecta...very impressive. My cousin loved his candied yams and baked beans. The empanadas were fire! Solid drinks. We decided to sit outside and it was the perfect night for it so it was kinda perfect. Located on the Nautical Mile, this black owned restaurant exceeded my expectations. Their honey lemon pepper wings are the best wings I've ever had; so crispy but not oily and the sauce is amazing. The candied yams...if I could have one last side on my death bed, I'd choose them. I'm not a rib person, but my mom wanted to try them and now I may be a rib person. They're not overly sauced, just the right amount. The brisket is tender and seasoned to perfection. The staff is so welcoming. The owners greet every person and the waitstaff are so friendly. Honestly, I'm very upset that I didn't discover this place earlier than I did but I'm so glad I found it!
