    Lemon Pepper Honey Wings
    Daniel J.

I am learning more about the BLACK OWNED Businesses local to me to frequent now and beyond February (Black History is more than a month!), and this is a great pick for repeat visits. This is located on the Nautical Mile and was open on a cold winter night where the food kept me nice and warm. The owner Chef Kenny, came out, greeted and chatted me up for a bit. He suggested I at least try the ribs and lemon pepper honey wings. The honey in the lemon pepper honey wings really takes a safe wing choice and makes it a great choice! The honey was just sweet enough not to drown the lemon pepper taste I'm used to, really great job balancing the flavors here. DON'T split this order, just enjoy it by yourself. You're welcome. The 18% gratuity is included, which I like, less math for me, and less chance of short changing the hard working staff here. Their big draw is Sunday Brunch which I will be trying, but a nice weekday visit to love on some wings in peace is a choice too. Good: -LEMON PEPPER HONEY WINGS -Sweet Thai Wings -Two Meat Combo (incl. Beef Brisket, Pork Ribs, Candied Yams & Collard Greens) -Parking lot available -18% gratuity included Bad: -None

Fried chicken dinner with Mac and cheese and cornbread

Not my favorite bbq spot. I kept seeing this place on Instagram so decided to give it a try. The food was made to order and very fresh. The chicken was nice, crispy, and juicy. I don't eat yams but was told the yams were way too sweet. The cornbread was good. The Mac and cheese was okay, nothing to rave about. The brisket was decent as some pieces were dry.

I ordered take out. My food was cold but I can't blame them entirely because my aunt picked it up and didn't come straight back. We got sweet Thai chili wings 10/10 even cold, bbq wings 10/10 (it looked like plain wings but there was a dry seasoning on it) , the fries were too cold for me to try. I will say I did not like the coleslaw. I definitely will be back but will dine in ! I can also say even though the wings were cold they were still crunchy! And you gotta love that when eating wings

    Chicken And Shrimp Combo

My partner and I went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't busy but there were people dining. We had the chicken and shrimp, which included sides. They give you wingettes, which was fine, but we did think it would be whole pieces of chicken. The food was very flavorful and tasted fresh. The workers seemed a bit preoccupied, and it took a while to get attention for different things, but they were pleasant. For some reason the floor was really slippery, not sure what that was about. The ambience isn't anything to write home about, but it's adequate for dining. We will definitely return.

great staff. the food was sooooo delicious I had the fried chicken with French fries and omg seriously the best baked beans I've ever had. Hubby had the ribs... such a delicious Smokey flavor with the Mac & cheese & collard greens. worth the hour drive we took to try this place out

Backyard Barbeque is a homey spot on the Nautical Mile. Definitely nothing fancy, the place is pretty well worn, and has a sweet mural on the walls. The team is all super friendly and helpful, and happy to recommend their specials. The drinks are pretty solid, and the food was really good. I tried one of each of the tacos they have, which were all good. The star of the show is absolutely the brisket. It was pretty freaking spectacular, extremely soft, super flavorful rub and meat, and so dang delicious. Highly recommended to swing by for the brisket!

Better than expected but still lacking. My birthday dinner from my son. He was feeling for soul food so yeah on my birthday he picks where we eat. Very casual small place. Maybe seating for 35/45 ppl the most. The one drink I had "twisted fantasy " tasted like something was spoiled in it. Drink not that great. Music was very good. Dj in the corner spinning old school music . It wasn't that late in the evening about 5pm & the waitress stated they were out of many items on menu. Some I would have loved to try.... But anyway my son ordered catfish sliders & Mac & ch. I had fried shrimp baked beans and Mac& cheese . It was all very good. It took awhile to get our food but was worth it. Waitress only checked on our table once, which is one reason not 5 . Think the price is about right/fair. I will be back, hopefully they have everything I want on the menu.

Sweet Thai chili wings were the favorite at this table!!! Drinks were yummy. Do not discredit the rest of the food because EVERYTHING was good. Service was amazing! It wasn't busy when we started our meal. By the end of our meal, a work group came in and we gathered our to-go leftovers and moved to the bar. YUP!!! After eating we went to the bar and relaxed talking with the owners and listening to the play list, which often had me swaying and eating during my meal. I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit and would definitely return (ladies night and karaoke-Thursday nights)! I recommend you try Backyard BBQ and let us know what you think. Two tips: 1- corn bread not shown in my review was enjoyed by my sister-she got one to go w/her leftovers. 2-if like me you enjoy texture try adding the pickled onions to your potato salad if you think it's missing something. It provided the sweet and crunch I needed.

The food was fresh and hot. The fries were seasoned well and crispy. The collard greens and thai chili wings were good also. Make sure you get the "Act Up" drink if you are 21 and older. It was the highlight of the meal. I will definitely be back. The staff was friendly and nice. They got us anything we needed. he ambiance is laid back and chill.

We were told the food is a 25 minute wait. Np! My Husband and I took a strolll up Nautical mile while we waited for the order. Come back 40 minutes later to see the same people eating in were not served yet and our food was not ready. No STAFF is available besides the 2 young men getting food from the back. No bar assistantance. Just as we go to tell the waiter we want to cancel our order he comes out with it. Well to those who never had soul food before this may be good! I tried to support my own, but this food is trash! Watery collards, dry mac, beans taste like tomato paste and the brisket is basic. I WONT BE BACK! $40 down the drain.

    "Maple Bacon"

I visited this restaurant on Easter with my family, hoping for a pleasant experience--and unfortunately, it missed the mark in more ways than one. Let's start with the food. I ordered the "maple bacon" expecting, well... actual maple bacon. What I received was plain bacon in a bowl with syrup poured over it. No glaze, no caramelization--just syrupy, overcooked strips swimming like they needed a lifeguard. Needless to say, I sent it back. I also returned the pancakes, which were dry, room temperature, and lacked flavor. Sadly, I've had better pancakes at the deli. On top of that, we waited two full hours for our food. And even then, our drinks didn't arrive until an hour into the wait. By that point, the vibe was already off--and unfortunately, it only got worse. When my family expressed that I didn't enjoy the food (they didn't either, but I'll allow them to leave their own reviews), they handed the bacon back to the server--who also happened to be the bartender, host, front-of-house manager, and co-owner (Michael Toney)--and let him know it wasn't to my liking. Instead of handling it with grace, he caught an immediate attitude and said, "It's just bacon," while screwing up his face. My family then chimed in and mentioned that I'm a chef, and his energy instantly shifted. A few moments later, he returned to the table and attempted to size me up by asking, "Do you know how to make bacon from scratch?" I calmly said no. He responded, "Well, my chef cures the bacon himself." I said, "Okay." That's when the passive-aggressiveness started. When I called out his energy directly (because yes, I noticed), he seemed shocked. Claimed he just "wanted feedback"--yet never actually asked what I didn't like until after I called him out. If he had, I would've gladly explained that syrup poured over bacon doesn't make it maple bacon. Instead, I had to remind him of that while navigating an awkward, defensive interaction that completely disrupted our experience. At one point I even said, "Your energy is hot," because frankly, it was. I would've preferred my pancakes to be hot instead of his attitude. After I said that, he replied, "No, I'm not upset. It's Easter--why would I be upset?" I responded calmly, "I don't know, maybe you're having a bad day." He never once asked why I returned the pancakes, which said a lot. I didn't expect a flawless brunch, but I did expect basic courtesy. What I got instead was subpar food and an ego trip--for simply having standards. I truly hope this was just an off day. But a word of advice: hospitality begins and ends with the guest experience. Instead of handling honest feedback with grace, Michael Toney made it a challenge--as if I had something to prove. I didn't. I'm a paying customer. That alone is reason enough to treat people with basic respect. With some customer service training, more staff and maybe a bit of anger management--the front of house could improve. As for the back of house? That might take a miracle.

Brisket - Pieces of cooked brisket are placed in a black container, showing a variety of textures and doneness.

There's definitely room for improvement, at least for the takeout entrees. Portions are good but flavor is lacking. Maybe it was an off -day but my chicken was unseasoned and bbq sauce was slathered on, almost like an afterthought. Brisket was too salty to finish. Sides were good.

BBQ RIBS ! Yams 10/10 !! - A plate features glazed barbecue ribs, sweet potato chunks, coleslaw, and slices of white bread on red-and-white checkered paper.

My favorite go to place for BBQ on Long Island. Food is always delicious and Dj is always playing the best music. Servers are always friendly. I highly recommend anyone looking for good Bbq and vibes to stop by this place on the Nautical Mile.

The staff were friendly and attentive, and I had the chance to meet the owner, Bobby, who was very approachable and took the time to introduce himself. My interactions him and his team I would rate 5-stars. I value supporting Black-owned businesses, which made the visit even more meaningful. One piece of constructive feedback: I ordered fried whiting, and the fish I received did not appear to be whiting. The fish was okay overall, but I would have appreciated being informed if it was unavailable so I could have chosen something else. I'm currently avoiding red meat, chicken, and pork and eating fish only during this Lenten season, so I'm especially particular about my food orders. Because of that, not receiving what I requested was disappointing. For that reason alone, I'd rate the food 3 stars. Because the overall experience was pleasant, I will give a 4 star rating--as I do plan to return to explore other items on the menu. I might order the whiting again, but will confirm the order before leaving and will return to sample more of the menu, especially since my parents love barbecue.

Even as the hostess was assisting another guest. She made sure to acknowledge that we entered the space, and the customer service continued at that level from entry to exit. The set up is cool. Has a restaurant, lounge and event space blend. Perfect for multiple opportunities to cover a patrons needs. On to the food. We ordered food to go. We tried different options as there were four of us. Portions were plentiful and packed well. My son says he really enjoyed the bbq burnt ends. I tried the ribs and Mac and cheese, my wife the pulled pork and spicy cabbage. Rounding the order out was mom, she tried the fried chicken dinner with cabbage and yams. I'd say the only item we didn't quite enjoy was the potato salad, left a little to be desired but all in all, everyone enjoyed their meals. I'm certain it would have been even better had we eaten in the restaurant as the food was freshly made.
