I have seen this place so many times and wanted to walk in, and I am glad I did. Small but quaint restaurant with a few tables, but great for a hungry crowd. At first glance, the artwork caught my eye, I loved the ambiance. Customer Service was top tier! The hostess and our waiter was on point. I am learning more about the BLACK OWNED Businesses local to me to frequent now and beyond February (Black History is more than a month!), and this is a great pick for repeat visits. This is located on the Nautical Mile and was open on a cold winter night where the food kept me nice and warm. The owner Chef Kenny, came out, greeted and chatted me up for a bit. He suggested I at least try the ribs and lemon pepper honey wings. The honey in the lemon pepper honey wings really takes a safe wing choice and makes it a great choice! The honey was just sweet enough not to drown the lemon pepper taste I'm used to, really great job balancing the flavors here. DON'T split this order, just enjoy it by yourself. You're welcome. My partner and I went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't busy but there were people dining. We had the chicken and shrimp, which included sides. They give you wingettes, which was fine, but we did think it would be whole pieces of chicken. The food was very flavorful and tasted fresh. Good food, but terrible online order experience Backyard BBQ has great food -- no complaints there. Everything I've tried has been fresh and flavorful, and it's one of my go-to spots when I can actually get my order. The issue is with their online ordering. About 75% of the time my pickup orders get cancelled last minute, which is really frustrating and unprofessional. It's disappointing to get excited for a meal only to find out right before pickup that it's not happening. I wish they would fix their online system or at least communicate better. I visited this restaurant on Easter with my family, hoping for a pleasant experience--and unfortunately, it missed the mark in more ways than one. Let's start with the food. I ordered the "maple bacon" expecting, well... actual maple bacon. What I received was plain bacon in a bowl with syrup poured over it. No glaze, no caramelization--just syrupy, overcooked strips swimming like they needed a lifeguard. Needless to say, I sent it back. I also returned the pancakes, which were dry, room temperature, and lacked flavor. Sadly, I've had better pancakes at the deli. On top of that, we waited two full hours for our food. And even then, our drinks didn't arrive until an hour into the wait. By that point, the vibe was already off--and unfortunately, it only got worse. When my family expressed that I didn't enjoy the food (they didn't either, but I'll allow them to leave their own reviews), they handed the bacon back to the server--who also happened to be the bartender, host, front-of-house manager, and co-owner (Michael Toney)--and let him know it wasn't to my liking. Instead of handling it with grace, he caught an immediate attitude and said, "It's just bacon," while screwing up his face. My family then chimed in and mentioned that I'm a chef, and his energy instantly shifted. A few moments later, he returned to the table and attempted to size me up by asking, "Do you know how to make bacon from scratch?" I calmly said no. He responded, "Well, my chef cures the bacon himself." I said, "Okay." That's when the passive-aggressiveness started. When I called out his energy directly (because yes, I noticed), he seemed shocked. Claimed he just "wanted feedback"--yet never actually asked what I didn't like until after I called him out. If he had, I would've gladly explained that syrup poured over bacon doesn't make it maple bacon. Instead, I had to remind him of that while navigating an awkward, defensive interaction that completely disrupted our experience. At one point I even said, "Your energy is hot," because frankly, it was. I would've preferred my pancakes to be hot instead of his attitude. After I said that, he replied, "No, I'm not upset. It's Easter--why would I be upset?" I responded calmly, "I don't know, maybe you're having a bad day." He never once asked why I returned the pancakes, which said a lot. I didn't expect a flawless brunch, but I did expect basic courtesy. What I got instead was subpar food and an ego trip--for simply having standards. I truly hope this was just an off day. But a word of advice: hospitality begins and ends with the guest experience. Instead of handling honest feedback with grace, Michael Toney made it a challenge--as if I had something to prove. I didn't. I'm a paying customer. That alone is reason enough to treat people with basic respect. With some customer service training, more staff and maybe a bit of anger management--the front of house could improve. As for the back of house? That might take a miracle. read more

The restaurant is clean and spacious and give you old-school vibes with musicians painted on the walls. I came here for black restaurant, and I thoroughly enjoyed the food. The ribs here are so delicious and tender fall off the bowl I highly recommend that the collard greens empanadas were good as well. Saturday Dinner! Dined here with a friend on a Saturday night around 9:30pm. We were able to get a table as soon as we walked in. The space was lively with a great playlist, ppl sitting at the bar and majority of tables with patrons. Once seated we were greeted by our lovely waitress January. She gave us menus and allowed for time to look over. Starting with a cocktail I went with a Whiskey Sour. This was not on the menu but being that they have a full bar I asked for it and received. The Whiskey Sour was bomb! Perfectly balanced so I decided to have another. As for my meal I had the pork ribs with Mac n cheese & yams as my side. Everything was full of flavor and sooooo good. My friend had the brisket with greens and yams. His brisket came out ice cold but the sides were hot. Totally confused by this we alerted one of the employees who said they would bring out a new plate. A different employee came over and only took the brisket back to reheat. Recently, visited for Sunday brunch around 1pm and the music was a vibe the entire time, they played 90s-2000 hip hop and R&B with a few reggae tunes. The owners are extremely nice and welcoming. I ordered the fried catfish, sautéed shrimp with cheesy grits and the unlimited Bellini. My sister-in-law ordered the french toast bites with cheesy scrambled eggs with the unlimited mimosa. I forgot to take a picture of the sweet chili wings because we ate them soooo fast. They were fresh, crispy even with the sauce on it. We shared all the food and drinks, everything was AMAZING. A DJ arrived around 3pm and the music got even better. We left for a little while and then decided to return and sit at the bar with another friend. The food was not freshly made, the brisket was super over cooked and the greens were made too salty or sat in the juice too long soaked up all the salt. 2. The table cloths were too big and didn't fit the tables 3. Presentation of the food was awful and served with metal and plastic never something I'd expect on the mile. 4. When i asked for the check they come over with the handheld and it just shows the total without itemization.
