I stopped into this cozy spot after passing it many times on the highway and finally decided to give it a try. The restaurant itself has a warm, inviting feel. The staff were friendly and attentive, and I had the chance to meet the owner, Bobby, who was very approachable and took the time to introduce himself. My interactions him and his team I would rate 5-stars. I value supporting Black-owned businesses, which made the visit even more meaningful. One piece of constructive feedback: I ordered fried whiting, and the fish I received did not appear to be whiting. The fish was okay overall, but I would have appreciated being informed if it was unavailable so I could have chosen something else. I'm currently avoiding red meat, chicken, and pork and eating fish only during this Lenten season, so I'm especially particular about my food orders. Because of that, not receiving what I requested was disappointing. For that reason alone, I'd rate the food 3 stars. Because the overall experience was pleasant, I will give a 4 star rating--as I do plan to return to explore other items on the menu. The family had a taste for soul food. Based on an IG story we decided to try Bobby Q's. We received greetings as we entered, and advised that we'd be helped in a moment. Even as the hostess was assisting another guest. She made sure to acknowledge that we entered the space, and the customer service continued at that level from entry to exit. The set up is cool. Has a restaurant, lounge and event space blend. Perfect for multiple opportunities to cover a patrons needs. On to the food. We ordered food to go. We tried different options as there were four of us. Portions were plentiful and packed well. My son says he really enjoyed the bbq burnt ends. I tried the ribs and Mac and cheese, my wife the pulled pork and spicy cabbage. Rounding the order out was mom, she tried the fried chicken dinner with cabbage and yams. I'd say the only item we didn't quite enjoy was the potato salad, left a little to be desired but all in all, everyone enjoyed their meals. I placed an order for salmon and shrimp with grits, along with a side of sage sausage. The meal was advertised as including a mimosa and a slice of pie for $30.99, but I did not receive the pie. Although the waitress was very kind and apologetic, the overall service was unacceptable. I waited for over an hour for my food, which is far too long--especially given the limited time remaining for brunch service. Due to the extended wait, I ultimately decided to take my food to go. Unfortunately, even after getting home, I was not impressed with the quality of the food. Between the long wait, incomplete order, and disappointing meal, this experience did not meet expectations. I'm really disappointed, this isn't my first time eating here. I had Fried chicken and French toast. The chicken came out looking beautifully fried but had NO SEASONING. The French toast was burnt, when asked how was my meal , I told the waitress my French toast was burnt, flat and tasteless. She told the cook, her response was " I didn't have the bread I normally use so, I used regular bread and I couldn't do anything about it (burnt). The fried codfish was breaded well but needed a bit more flavor, rated three stars. This was the best entree of the three. The side of greens and French fries were three stars with enough seasoning. My wife's seafood stuffed lobster was great, the ribeye was delicious, and the fried chicken was some of the best I've ever had. All of the sides were great too. If I'm being honest you're better off going to SOUTHERN GIRLS or BEACH BBQ. They're both close, better taste and much better customer service. We spent $180 in total and I've never seen so much southern food go to waste in my house. The "manager", Anthony, is a piece of work. I placed a large order and called back within 2 min to make an adjustment to ONE meal out of 7. He was flustered by the change and left me on hold for 10 min & got an attitude because I called back instead of just staying on hold. It took him another 15 min to get ahold of someone else for help and process the adjustment. I was disappointing that there was no gravy for the grits but to my surprise, the grits were smooth and creamy. There was no need for gravy. The fish was well seasoned and the Mac n cheese had a home made flavor. Although the food had good flavor I'd say that it was just a touch too salty. I was not happy that the 2 dishes were not labeled so we couldn't tell them apart, also they packaged the fish on top of the grits so it was soggy by the time I got it home. If anyone likes this food is because they do not know authentic soul food cooking. I suggest everyone go to queens, Brooklyn, Harlem. Nassau County just does not have good soul food and in fact some Jamacian restaurants have much to be desired also. I even tried putting seasoning on the chicken/fish. Did not work. What kind of fish was it? Surly not the whiting that was advertised. Let me tell you what it consisted of one small rib, a scoop of cabbage and a scoop of mac & cheese, and that would be an ice cream scooper that I'm referring to as in size. Came here for dinner for a celebration my program was hosting. We were provided with a curated selection of food trays, with the option to order menu items if we wanted. Our starter was a mashed, boneless chicken serving over a waffle, a twist from the traditional Southern chicken and waffles. I'm not sure if this is a regular menu item or not, but I think the aesthetic of the dish could be improved, perhaps with a little garnish or drizzle of syrup. My reasoning is that while the dish *tasted good, it initially didn't *look good. Maybe a slight change to the look and feel of the plate would get more people to eat it without hesitation. The chicken wings were crispy and well seasoned. I normally enjoy wings slathered in a sauce, but these were made with a dry rub seasoning and well made. I was no match for the pulled pork sliders, and definitely took a few home with me for a midnight snack. I had driven by this place so many times and finally got to try it and I'm so glad I did. I wish I could eat spicy food cause I took a small bite of my husbands jerk chicken and my sons Rasta pasta and oh my word!!! So good 10/10! Their mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were also amazing and must tries. My mom got a brisket sandwich and I got Turkey wings. Both were good. Overall the customer service was amazing! It did feel like it takes a bit to get your food (worth the wait though) and the food came out 1 at a time vs when they bring out all the meals together. The cornbread was hard as a brick, the candied yams were blackish in color, stringy and disgusting, and the cabbage had no flavor. Worst of all was the BANANA PUDDING. The short ribs melted in mouth and the bbq sauce was a perfect richness of sweet to go along with it. I normally do not send feedback but I felt led to let your establishment know of the poor quality of food that I received this evening on September 1, 2023. It was a To Go Order. I ordered a Fried fish and shrimp combo dinner and specifically ordered catfish as my choice of fish. I also order a Fried shrimp dinner. On your website menu the prices states fried shrimp dinner is $19.99 I was charged $25.99. On the website the fried fish and shrimp dinner combo is $23.99. I was charged $25.99 plus $6.00 extra for catfish. I had to prove to Anthony of the prices that are reflecting on your website did not match. After reviewing the discrepancies in pricing with Anthony he adjusted the bill by taking $7.00 off and $1.96 off. My bill total was $53.25 When I reached home I was highly displeased that I didn't not receive catfish in my combo order. I received REFRIED Whiting or Swai... The fish was not fresh . It was hard . I know catfish and this was not it. You tried to pass off this refried fish as catfish . How can you send out food like this? Serving this type of food would only make customers NOT return and tell others not to patronage your business. You should be serving fresh cooked fish/shrimp for all orders. I live in the area and always like to support our local business especially Black own business. The service I received tonight was simply horrible.
