This place feels like your traditional mom and pop restaurant where you can get a home cooked meal. When I got there, I was greeted by kind host who took me to my seat. There is plenty of seating to dine in as well as an area to wait with seating for carry out orders. The waitress was waiting on me was also very kind. My food came out quickly, and I also ordered carryout which also came out quickly. I ordered the catfish platter with a baked potato and macaroni and cheese. The fish was crispy and well seasoned. The macaroni and cheese was really good and the baked potato, was your standard baked potato. All of my food came out hot and fresh. The price point here is also something that you cannot beat. I also ordered a half-and-half to wash it all down. The next time I am in Marion, I will definitely be back to this restaurant to try some of their other offerings as well as their desserts.

Ordered ribs with corn on the cob and sweet potato fries. The only thing that wasn't refrigerator cold was the fries. The ribs and corn had warm spots but near the bone and cob were both cold, refrigerator cold. I don't send things back or complain as I believe food should come out right. The restaurant was not busy at all so maybe that had something to do with it? My friend riding with me had the same experience. Food may have been good had it been warm.

Prices were fair and the staff were friendly. I found it quite odd that half the seats were coned off and not usable which wasn't the best look. I'm from Texas so I'm already critical of BBQ but I was in the South and the country the BBQ should be good right? NOT! From the moment you walked in you could tell it was a local spot. No greeting, you just get asked what do you want. I placed an order for 1/2 chicken with Mac & Cheese and beans. They had folding chairs to sit down because the dining area was blocked off from sitting. I paid, and sat down. I wasn't given a number or asked my name. After about 15-20 min I got up to see if my order was ready. There was a line by this time. The girl that took my order said "you got the 1/2 chicken right?" Oh here it is. It had been sitting there. She bagged it up, I asked for sauce and utensils. I got to the room and was starving. I looked at the chicken. Didn't notice any char like I'm used too. But I said maybe it will still taste good. I tasted the Mac and cheese. Needed salt. The beans were OK tasted like they came out of a can. The chicken was dry and didn't look cooked all the way as I got closer to the bone. The sauce was basically watery ketchup. I ate the roll and beans. The rest went in the trash and I ordered a pizza. Maybe I ordered the wrong meat, I know this was a miss for me.

The staff here was friendly and engaging and I can say that both the woman at the food station and the woman at the checkout were great. The customers were also friendly. This place had a great vibe. I ordered the chicken here and for my sides, I went with the potato wedges and onion rings. All were excellent. Prices were in line with what you would expect. The half chicken with two sides was somewhere around thirteen dollars and a large iced tea was I believe two dollars and fifty cents. Robertson BBQ is just about ten minutes off of the highway and it is definitely worth the detour. All in all, Robertson BBQ is a fantastic place for barbecue and I would definitely recommend it and I will give it five stars.

This place delivers…read morethat authentic, Southern, mom-and-pop barbecue experience that you hope for when you're in Alabama. They cover most of the BBQ classics -- pork, chicken, ribs, burgers, and all the traditional Southern sides -- though no brisket here. Honestly? You won't even miss it. We ordered the 1/2 lb of BBQ pork plate with fried okra and corn nuggets (the plate comes with two sides, which is perfect). The pork was everything great barbecue should be: moist, smoky, tender, and packed with flavor. You could taste the care in every bite. It's the kind of meal that makes you slow down and savor it. The fried okra was crispy and seasoned just right, and the corn nuggets were golden little bites of happiness -- slightly sweet, crunchy outside, soft inside. A perfect pairing with the pork. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They gladly offered suggestions for sides and made us feel like regulars even though it was our first visit. That kind of hospitality makes a big difference. Parking is right out front -- probably around eight spots -- and they do fill up quickly, especially at lunch. The restaurant was busy with mostly locals, which is always a great sign. The location is tucked away in a residential area, so definitely look up directions beforehand. There's a small street sign, but it's easy to miss if you're not paying attention. All in all, this spot has that genuine small-town BBQ charm with big-time flavor. If you're in Selma and craving real Southern barbecue, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!

But, that would not be a fair description of this tradition: BBQ is an incredible style of cooking and spots like this represent this tradition well. BBQ 65 is conveniently located right off the interstate in a gas station in a saloon like building that has a beautiful character from the outside. Open since 2010s, this spot has started to earn its place in the BBQ world, albeit being newer to it. There is an indoor seating inside near the gas station shop aisles. The ribs are cooked well with a nice wood profile, but neither very delicate nor particularly notable for their flavor of the meat itself, with smoke notes dominating. The quality of pork itself and the slightly tougher preparation could be better to rival Alabama's best. The BBQ sauce is loaded up with vinegar, completely overpowering the meat if consumed together, although to be fair, this may be a matter of preference for some BBQ lovers. The star of the show is potato salad which was perfectly balanced on its acidity, sweetness and overall flavor. As a whole, BBQ 65 is a pleasant stop to experience some traditional southern cooking and support a local business instead of tossing money into another "by the exit" fast food chain.
