Service was on point. I was excited to be welcomed by the Staff. My BBQ was amazing. I recommend everyone to stop by and give it a try.

If you're looking for the go-to BBQ spot in Selma, this is it. No question. This place delivers…read morethat authentic, Southern, mom-and-pop barbecue experience that you hope for when you're in Alabama. They cover most of the BBQ classics -- pork, chicken, ribs, burgers, and all the traditional Southern sides -- though no brisket here. Honestly? You won't even miss it. We ordered the 1/2 lb of BBQ pork plate with fried okra and corn nuggets (the plate comes with two sides, which is perfect). The pork was everything great barbecue should be: moist, smoky, tender, and packed with flavor. You could taste the care in every bite. It's the kind of meal that makes you slow down and savor it. The fried okra was crispy and seasoned just right, and the corn nuggets were golden little bites of happiness -- slightly sweet, crunchy outside, soft inside. A perfect pairing with the pork. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They gladly offered suggestions for sides and made us feel like regulars even though it was our first visit. That kind of hospitality makes a big difference. Parking is right out front -- probably around eight spots -- and they do fill up quickly, especially at lunch. The restaurant was busy with mostly locals, which is always a great sign. The location is tucked away in a residential area, so definitely look up directions beforehand. There's a small street sign, but it's easy to miss if you're not paying attention. All in all, this spot has that genuine small-town BBQ charm with big-time flavor. If you're in Selma and craving real Southern barbecue, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!

We also added in some fried hot wings, which were crunchy and pleasantly spiced. On the side, we enjoyed the crispy slaw and sweet corn nuggets. Of course we washed it all down with some sweet tea. Man, I wish I could have those ribs for breakfast every day! Also, the folks at Lannie's were really nice.

The building is classic roadhouse style--totally unpretentious with its sign and adverts plaster on the walls. The interior is the same, open seating and seats at the bar. The menu has broadened over the years, rather than just ribs, white bread and pudding, you can get a pork sandwich and chicken with a limited number of sides (the Mac and cheese is superior). The franchised Dreamlands are so different with a plethora of choices, more to the liking of the suburban south. If you like that, go for it. For my money, you can't beat the original. The ribs are charred perfectly and the service is old time South, friendly and helpful. You immediately feel at ease with everything and everyone around you. Take out is available--actually this place is just minutes off the highway. But a whole another world at the same time.

Server didn't tell us they'd run out of ribs and they were cooking more, we just sat there waiting. Once the ribs arrived, they tasted okay but were tough. I felt we were forgotten even though the servers were walking through the tight dining room often. Sorry to say after all the great things we'd heard, this won't be a repeater for me.

Prices were fair and the staff were friendly. I found it quite odd that half the seats were coned off and not usable which wasn't the best look. I'm from Texas so I'm already critical of BBQ but I was in the South and the country the BBQ should be good right? NOT! From the moment you walked in you could tell it was a local spot. No greeting, you just get asked what do you want. I placed an order for 1/2 chicken with Mac & Cheese and beans. They had folding chairs to sit down because the dining area was blocked off from sitting. I paid, and sat down. I wasn't given a number or asked my name. After about 15-20 min I got up to see if my order was ready. There was a line by this time. The girl that took my order said "you got the 1/2 chicken right?" Oh here it is. It had been sitting there. She bagged it up, I asked for sauce and utensils. I got to the room and was starving. I looked at the chicken. Didn't notice any char like I'm used too. But I said maybe it will still taste good. I tasted the Mac and cheese. Needed salt. The beans were OK tasted like they came out of a can. The chicken was dry and didn't look cooked all the way as I got closer to the bone. The sauce was basically watery ketchup. I ate the roll and beans. The rest went in the trash and I ordered a pizza. Maybe I ordered the wrong meat, I know this was a miss for me.

It is out in the middle of nowhere in Billingsley, where there is nothing but trees. Montgomery is 30 miles to the south and Centreville is 40 something miles to the north. But the road trip to Jim's is worth it. Part of the reason I call it heaven is because the place is decorated with so much Alabama Crimson Tide decor. It has just as much or rivals as much as the original Dreamland. The BBQ is either the best or among the best in Alabama. I got there 10 minutes before they closed and all my food tasted like it was just prepared. The ribs are moist and a rub I have never had from anywhere else. It tasted like there was some lemon pepper mixed in the rub, which I have not had on the ribs. The pork was so soft, tender, and moist too! Both went extremely well with the sauce, which is different than most Bama BBQ places. This sauce was more like a Texas style. It was ketchup based but instead of sweetness, it was peppery and tangy. There was no to little heat to it as well. It is homemade in the restaurant. The beans and potato salad are made in house. The beans have a sweet taste to them. The potato salad is a mustard base. The service was also outstanding! I called them to ask what time they closed since I was driving up from Dothan. They offered to go ahead and have my plate ready by my ETA. Also, I wanted more sweet tea, but they had already dumped the sweet tea. (Sweet tea was still refreshingly sweet by the way.) They gave me a bottled water to make up for it. I will need to make a road trip back up to Billingsley. The ribs and pork is among the best in Alabama and I will be planning a road trip soon back to Billingsley.
