This is what I think of when I think BBQ! Everything that used to be white is that yellow smoke stained color. Nothing is dirty. It looks and smells like BBQ has been made here for 100 years. The food taste like they have 100 years experience making it! The meat (all of them) are top shelf. Their sides are perfect. I am a big fan of the banana pudding. The sauce (if you just have to have some) is not necessary, but fantastic if you use some. It is without a doubt the best BBQ in the Tuscaloosa area. This place was recommended to me by my son. When I pulled up, I wasn't impressed by the outside and almost didn't go in. The outside of the building is tired looking and the sign is faded. When I walked in, however, the place was spotless. The aroma was so amazing that I started salivating immediately. I ordered carry-out as my wife didn't come with me. The staff was very professional and the order was ready within a few minutes. My wife had the pulled pork, fried okra and new potatoes. She said that everything was very good. This is a great local place for barbecue. I stop in here often Fridays after work to pick up something for supper. Our favorites are the pork sandwiches, steak fries, and the stuffed sausage potatoes. The service is good; the staff is very friendly and helpful, and I like going to a place where they treat you like you're truly welcome. If I had one complaint, it'd be that the hours of operation are a bit odd. I do wish they were open more. read more

Really wanted this off the beaten path place to be great as the other reviews suggest, but sadly was disappointed. My wife had the pulled pork and it was tender but unremarkable for Alabama BBQ. I had the ribs and they were really marginal. Hard and tough on the outside and even the tender bits had very little flavor. I'm giving this restaurant a 3 star mainly for its potential. Chopped pork was good (not excellent). Mac and Cheese was good once we realized we had to stir it in it's to go container. The "new potatoes" are canned with no peels. The Baked Beans are very vinegary like they just put barbecue sauce in pork and beans. For the money we expect a whole lot more. They would do well to compete in competitions to have awards. Sides should be better than any other. If it's not fresh ditch it. Have something no others have. Best BBQ sauce I've had outside of Texas -- perfectly balanced between sweet and tangy, with a nice bite to it. I had the pulled chicken plate with baked beans and corn on the cob, my partner had the rib plate with baked beans and salad, and we both had leftovers. We ate here on New Year's Eve and wanted a few slabs of ribs to bring in the new year! My mother wanted pottery my dad another location we decided on pottery and thank god!!!! Yahhhhhh about time!!!! The sauce which tasted vinegar based mixed with some heat was good too!! And I normally prefer mustard based sauce lol! But I sure licked my plate and used my bread to soak up THE goodness!! The potato salad was good too it more mayo than I prefer but good! We were looking for some good BBQ so of course I went to yelp.com! We were kind of in a hurry so we chose a place with the highest rating and close by. We naturally saw The Pottery Grill at the top of the list. We made the short drive to Cottendale and met the sweetest lady working the counter. She was Awesome and the best part of the experience. Sadly to say we purchased five 1 meat dinners with 2 sides and took it to our destination. The aroma of this bbq was so incredible that it was extremely difficult to have it in the car for the 40 minute drive. Once we got to our destination we dug into the great smelling bbq. This was one of the biggest let downs of my bbq consuming life! The ribs were over cooked to the point of chewy and swimming in some type of runny sauce. The baked beans were good as well as the cole slaw. This being the case we can only allow a 3 Star Rating. read more

Pottery grill is great! I was on a road trip with my girlfriend and another couple traveling from New York to New Orleans and we wanted to try a local food spot on our way down to get a taste of southern hospitality and cooking. We came across here just by chance and we were not disappointed! Wally behind the counter made us feel very welcome and seemed genuinely excited to have us there, taking the time to talk to us and tell us all about the location. The food was delicious and filling. Pretty good Barbecue but being from Texas we have really good Barbecue that is beef. This place only had chicken and pork. Even though the walls and ceiling are yellowed from all the smoke it is a good atmosphere and people are really nice. Oh they have really good baked beans. read more
