Dive bar, dive bar, dive bar! As many other reviewers have noted, this is a smoking establishment, and probably not the kid-friendliest. Oasis is a tiny little building in rural Cottondale, just a short drive outside of Tuscaloosa. It's a little loud, a little grungy, and a little intimidating to a non-regular...but you should try it! I ordered carry out because I can't handle cigarette smoke at all. The food was more or less ready for me when I got there -- I got there before the 20 minutes they told me was up, so I don't count my few minutes waiting as on them. The cashier was a little gruff at first but we warmed to each other after joking about how much ranch I wanted. One of the patrons offered me a seat while I was waiting, which was really nice and put me at ease. My food was still hot by the time I got home. Oasis KNOWS how to make a good hamburger. The bun was buttered and crispy around the edges, the burger was thick and juicy, and they put the perfect amount of ketchup on top. The bacon was a little underdone for my taste, but I like mine very crispy. The fries were just standard crinkle cut...but they were elevated to delicious after being dunked in their house-made buttermilk ranch. I'd say this is probably the best burger in the T-town area -- better than The Avenue Pub, which I've often seen it in competition with. At least, that's my assessment. Like most places in the Tuscaloosa area, standards have a strong tendency to drop. The Oasis still has a very good hamburger. They still have the best onion rings and French fries. However, they don't taste that good going down a dry throat. The service here has dropped considerably. The last few times I ate here, they didn't mind one bit walking passed you holding an empty glass. Couple the lousy service with the cigarette smoke and I haven't got the urge to go back like I used to. I've always hated the cigarette smoke, but it bothers me more when I'm thirsty. I took my husband here because he was craving a really good burger and let me tell you Oasis did not disappoint!! He said it hit the spot! We shared some mozzarella sticks and they were so good! I had some house fries and they were to die for! I've been craving them ever since! I will say the only downside is how smoky it gets in there but it's a bar and grill so I don't let the smoke bother me! The food is phenomenal! And so is the service! This is literally the best burger I have had from anywhere! We always do to go because I don't think I'd enjoy eating with the smoking inside. First of all the burger is huge and I have two meals out of it. It is so juicy and well seasoned. This was my first time trying the cheese fries and they were really good as well. My Husband and I went for Lunch. The Total was $30.56 for 1 Cheeseburger, a Small Chef Salad, with 1 extra Ranch, a Sweet Tea, and a Mellow Yellow (No fries). I thought it was a bit much for lunch and found out the wait staff added a 15% "automatic gratuity" to our ticket..(I tipped her 28% already), needless to say I was NOT happy. I brought it to the attention of the Owner and the "GM," and yet the daytime "bartender"/server still has not been addressed. The service was horrible (she got our drinks mixed up from the go and there were maybe 6 other people in there), but I'm a really good tipper, however not when I know you added it to my ticket without my knowledge. I finally tried this place and I do not for the life of me see what they hype was about. It seems dirty inside. Greasy or something. My table wasn't too clean. And the famous cheeseburger?? Please. I often stop here on the way back from Birmingham. Usually the beer is cold and their cheese burger and onion rings are really good. It is a local place and normally have local clientele. They are hospitable but one should remember that it has been in business this long because of the locals. read more

Haven't been here at night, but their burger is probably the best one I've had since I've lived in Tuscaloosa. Far from campus, so no college crowd, but seems like a classic dive bar. Would love to come and checkout the crowd at night. read more

Big beef patty, lots of great toppings...the burgers looked and tasted really good. The sides we ok. Onion rings were cooked just enough to be crunchy... I'd prefer them fresh not frozen. A group of us went there for lunch today. Friends had recommended the place. I didn't realize the name of the place was 'THE' Oasis, so I missed the reviews. I really wish I had seen Russ's review before I went, because I couldn't find my way back through the smoke to leave once I walked in there, so I just sat and ordered. Ugh. I think my burger was good, but I wasn't sure, because I couldn't really taste it through the smoke. I sampled fries and home fries. Neither were crispy. The onion rings were good. And my group really loved their Ranch dressing. The best thing about our visit was the server. She was prompt, friendly and accurately served our order. I thought the place was fairly pricey, my bill was higher than 5 Guys, and at least that place is smoke-free and clean. And Mugshots would be my choice if I wanted some booze with my burger. UPDATE: the last two times the fries were awful and the last time the onion rings were as if they were dropped in the oil before the burner was turned on. Inedible. Downgrade from 5 to 3 stars, all riding on the cheeseburgers. It fell that much, yes. ORIGINAL: Three words: cheeseburgers, cheeseburgers, cheeseburgers. If that's what you want then this is your spot. Onion rings too. But be advised that unless you enjoy second hand smoke it's for to-go orders only. Fridays are our night out, but occasionally a tough week calls for takeout, and The Oasis typically comes up as a choice. I feel like a tough guy because I'll wait till I get here to order but calling ahead and getting out quick might add a year to your life. I'm not a real huge fan of burgers but seeing how I've lived here all my life and I was craving one I decided to try it.... I'm no judge and really not someone who can tell a world of difference between burgers but I must say it was very good and my waitress was very nice.... I'm also a smoker so enjoyed being able to smoke while I waited for my food without having to go outside and explain to my waitress im not leaving I'm just going to smoke....
